YES Typo Review vs Basic Uninc, Standard Uninc & Standard

Great review. The typo is a best seller for good reasons. It's the type of affordable board for tourist level who wants to ride more than the average weekend warrior (saying "weekend warrior" with love, not as an insult. Everyone chooses their own path). The only Uninc I've had was a Burton, many years ago. Amazing board. I actually don't know the background of Uninc. Is it another brand that they hire like Springbreak with Capita?

Thanks. The boys at YES used to be the Uninc crew at Burton before they started YES. Somehow they got to use Uninc again. The old Burton Uninc's were fun. If you like the Typo you will love the Basic Uninc.

I went and bought the yes typo 159w after watching your video, thank you. My question is for a 15 in the front and -9 back foot, where do you advise to bind them for the best possible experience for a setback stance, im a beginner

Glad it helps. For groomers I would put this as close to the reference markers as you can for your stance width. In powder try to set it back as much as you can if you want a little easier float. It is pretty centered on board but it will help a little.

great review, this shortens my choices. If I were to get a typo, what size would suit me the best? I'm 5'8 currently 174 lbs (planning to lose weight around 165 lbs where I was before) boot size 9. Would 155 be a gray area or 158. I live on the East Coast, and we get more ice. and Mainly ride groomers, carving, and side hits. not a park guy. Anything that holds edge very well since again we get more ice here.

Thanks! 155 would be the better call for more control/maneuverability. The 158 is better for more speed/easier float/harder turns. You can handle both boards so it comes down to personal preference. Hello i am thinking to buy the yes typo. I would like to know your opinion about the size. I am 77 kilograms 177 cm tall with the boot size 10.5. I am an intermediate playfull rider. By yes standards my happy medium is 158 but I'm afraid it can be a little long for me, and think to order the 155 which has a max weight 82 kg. Can t wait to hear your opinion! Thank you

Snapped my shadowban and I do indeed miss it. Figured try something new but similar. Will be riding half groomers with Sidehits and park on the east coast. In between the typo and basic Uninc but leaning more towards the basic Uninc for the twin shape and slam back inserts. Size 9 boots, 185 pounds, 5’8 will 158 work ?

O for sure go Basic Uninc. 158 will work for sure. Especially if you had the 157 Shadowban. Basic Uninc will be more twin/softer. Don't go Typo.

Great review, I'm looking at getting this board. I would say I'm on the lower end of intermediate but am picking things up pretty quickly. I usually ride in Australia where the snow quality isn't the best however I'm going over to Japan for a week trip next year. Do you think this board would be suitable for me to take over for the Japan powder? Or would it be more suitable to rent/buy a specific powder board?. Thanks heaps mate, keep up the good content!

Thanks! Depending on your specs this would be great for Au but not for Japan. I think if you want one board that will do well in pow go with the Basic Uninc, Standard or Standard Uninc. They have set back inserts that float massively better than the Typo. You need a full size disc to utilize the set back inserts though. How’s the torsional flex compared to the basic uninc? Would love a basic uninc but I like a good amount of torsional flex for slow speed and set up turns and feel like the flex pattern on the typo has what I’m looking for.

Basic Uninc definitely has more but not sure based on what I know of you. Depends on what boards you like now and a lot of other factors. Hit me up here if you want to get into more detail.

This is my third season and would describe myself as an east coast intermediate trying to push myself a lot more this season by spending more times on blacks and double blacks. Right now I’m on a dancehaul and I’m looking for a twin for all mountain freestyle board to replace the 2019 jackpot that I started on (the one with the dicey’s profile).

So I want to get a basic uninc 158. I wear a 10.5 boot and I weigh 167lbs. I'm also getting a set of union force bindings in size large. Do you know if the bindings will fit the board without dangerous overhang? Unfortunately I don't have the chance to try them out so I'm looking for your pro tip here. Do you think i should get a wide board instead?

159w has a waist-width of 26.1 ----- That's BEYOND PLENTY of room for a bigger boot. Peeps freak out wayyyy more than needed with width. My daily driver is a 157 Shadowban'dito (lol) / I kick a 12.5 boot... my Shadowban's waist-width is 25.4 ---- I've NEVER had heel toe drag / unless you're laying out lick-the-snow 80° insane euro-carves then you should be totally in the clear at 26.1 waist-width... That's p l e n t y of room. Plenty.

@kirktremblay243 I would strongly suggest staying with the suggested sizes above. My friend, with 11.5s, booted out on a similar board, slightly wider, not even turning hard on low-angle groomers. Wide and Mid/Wide boards really help people with bigger boots. I'd like to see your stance angles, boots, bindings, the terrain you ride, and how you turn.
