"It's hard to complain; this is a free camp site..." "We may be lost... but look where we woke up this morning....it was a good night." And that, my friend, is the secret to happy camping. That, and a little advice from George Harrison: "...if you don't know where you're going any road will take you there." You're a lucky man, Owen. Hi Folks! Joe here. I just ran across this video you made last year and I am really enjoying everything you share with your viewers. Myrta and I are retired in South Florida. We grew up in New York City. I miss the north but she doesn't. I have always had a curiosity about West Virginia. We all know "the fame" of Virginia and its beginnings. In my opinion, West Virginia has been neglected even though I am a city boy from the north. We keep talking about buying a used class B RV and checking out everything between us and NY...one day! Please continue to share more things on your channel so that I can share them with Myrta. All the best to both of you! Joe & Myrta

Enjoyed another trip with y’all. You always find a way to make every trip an adventure. This makes it fun for your viewer to become an armchair trekker, too. Just wanted to mention that if the meat case is missing your favorite cut of meat, you can try a Chuck eye. It isn’t quite as tender as the rib eye but often is very good. It usually comes in packs of two at Wally World and the price is nice, too. Thanks for another great adventure. P.S. I noticed Maggie waiting patiently while y’all ate your steaks. Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley are next door and worth seeing too- Dolly Sods is a unique ecosystem and beautiful - there is dispersed camping up there too. I always get the DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer for any state I am going on backroads and sometimes stop at the local FS office and get the detailed map for the specific National Forest, they often change where you can camp and the FS office always has the most recent motorized travel map as well that gives the currently open dispersed camping areas. I love my digital but relying on only that in the backcountry is never a good idea.

My wife & I are so glad you folks got a Revel 4x4 so we could see how little difference, for the money, there is between the dispersed Campervan experience and just throwing some air mattresses in the back of a Subaru Outback. Also, as I approach retirement it was good to learn that I’d rather keep working vs. have to put all that driving & research in just to cookout; something I can do on my back patio. We always saw #VanLife as an adventure but in reality it’s just very expensive “car camping”. I’d rather just go play golf, come home and take a nap. My wife mentioned she’d rather just garden and have the grandkids come see us than we have to travel to see them. Anyway thanks for showing us how happy we already are!
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
It’s not for everyone for sure. Knowing what makes you happy and being happy with who you are and where you are is difficult. Sounds like you have it figured out. We can’t say we disagree with you either. Except… It’s quite the comfortable “car”. And just this month it’s taken us for views of the ocean… of lakes… and of dirt roads where we literally didn’t see a person for 2 days. We like being home. But, we love being home at different places too. Unless you can find and afford the perfect home with a view of the mountains and the ocean that comes with adventure and trails then we think this scratches that itch for us. Glad you found us and hope you stick around as happy you-guys-go-camping-and-we’ll-just-watch-from home. Enjoy life… it’s precious for sure.

I take my Promaster into National Forest dirt roads and Florida's are full of sand tracks... I thought yours did great in Alaska and wondered why you exchanged it for the Revel which seems much less comfortable .
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
I think all the places we’ve been in the dirt so far in the Revel could have been done in the Promaster too… except our snow adventure… it may have made it up and down those forest roads in 24” of snow but I know Lynn would have said “NO” long before we got there in the Travato. In fact we would not have planned that trip in the Travato. Alaska was a lot of fun in the Promaster but there were many times we chose not to take a fun looking road or park further away from the river and soft sand because we were concerned. We still had a great time in the FWD Promaster though and it handled everything like a champ. We switched to the Revel for a lot of reasons. One primary one was safety. The Sprinter is just a heftier van with many more safety features compared to our Travato, which basically just had airbags. Blind spot detection has saved us several times already and collision avoidance was something we put high on our list after almost having a head-on collision on I-10 last winter. As for comfort there are many things about the Travato that wins and we’ve done a video about that and not much has changed. Believe it or not the bed is more comfortable in the Revel (for us) and we get to sleep together. Being able to run the A/C on batteries while boondocking and having the systems to recharge while driving is a game changer for us and provides a lot of comfort and safety for Maggie too. And there’s the issue ground clearance. As we venture more and more off-road we’re finding places that we would not go because of water depth (last thing you want to do is dunk you generator on the Travato) or rear-end exit clearance height. With the generator back there we always felt limited and played it safe about ground clearance. The biggest thing we get with the Revel is better ground clearance and peace of mind knowing we have 4x4 if needed. It’s not even close to perfect but it’s better than 2WD when needed. But if you’re not getting stuck with the Promaster and you can get everywhere you want to go then the extra room inside that comes with that is a great choice. It was time for a change for us so we went with the Revel and as of now we’re even more glad we did… so far. Time will tell and one thing for sure is this won’t be our last van or RV. 😂👍

I think you have shown us the van can be used in about any way, and any season and be very comfortable..So many possibilities to enjoy living life open up with a self contained van. Have you ever given any thought to an Emergency Personal Locator device. I think campers and hikers would benefit if they gave it some thought. Peace of mind and a quick response if needed. Happy Tails little Maggie ❤️🐕🇺🇸😎

First of all… thank you! Yes, we now have a Zoleo satellite communication device that we can take with us on these trips. As you’ll see in upcoming parts of this trip we get out pretty far out with zero cell coverage for days. So now we can text family, send an SOS and even get Dark Sky weather when we’re out in the back country. Worth every penny. Thanks for caring about us.

Beautiful area you guys! We just booked the ferry to Newfoundland for the entire month of August. I know it was one of the places you all wanted to go to as well. I'll have lots of information from this trip I could share with you afterwards if you like. I'm sure there will be lots of places to boondock in our camper van. What are your plans for the summer?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
We would appreciate any information you would be able to share. We were still hoping they would open the boarders so we could still go this year. I’m assuming you are from Canada? Have a wonderful trip, wish we could be there too.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Yup from New Brunswick. I'll get your email sometime when we get back so I can forward info to you. I'm thinking it may be the fall before they open? I know that our NB Premier was trying to allow residents from Maine in to our province by July, but the Prime Minister Trudeau put a stop to that, for now.

Enjoy your Winnebago...... I could never get my Class C anywhere near these campsites. I do have a question. If staying at one spot for 3 or more days, how do your batteries hold out? Do you still have enough power?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
The answer to your question is, it depends. If you were getting in solar then yes it would last 3 days, it’s easy to keep an eye on the batteries and if we need to we can go into reserve mode. Thanks for the question.

Thank you! Maggie got a portion of one to the steaks but not a whole one. She did stay really close hoping for one though.

Another awesome adventure. We are thinking about getting back into camping and are thinking about going small. Would you include more about usability of your Revel. Using your trailer, bikes, griddle, fire pit, chairs, shower etc. It seems like without the trailer the Revel is too small for all the extras. Happy trails and tails.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Go for it! We’ll try to answer a few of your questions in an upcoming Q&A segment. But… yes, the Revel is small. But… everything about it just seems to work for us. No big TV, extra bed, lounge area, sofa or things you’d get in a bigger RV but since we can put this just about anywhere it always seems to outweigh those points.

Have yall ever heard of a place called land between the lakes national Recreation area in Tennessee and Kentucky it's awesome lots of dirt roads and desperced camping or campgrounds yall need to Google it we went last November we only did the southern part planning on going back to do the northern part but in september or october because it was already getting cold in november
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
We have it on our list and have watched a few videos about the area… but great to hear from you that it’s a gem. We’ll add it to the list. Thanks!

Really enjoying your videos! I thought the Revel came with BFG KO2 tires? Looks like they were swapped with a highway tread tire? The BFG's would help on the dirt roads without having to put in 4WD. Did u figure out the problem with getting it to go in 4WD? Also would love to see how you organize the "garage" area in a future video.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying the videos. It did come with K02’s but 2 of them were bad from the factory and couldn’t be balanced. So since we live so far from west coast dirt roads we opted for a proven semi-off-road tire for us the Michelin Agilis Cross Climates. They’re snow rated but not as aggressive on dirt as we’d like. So… we’ll likely switch back soon.

I betcha Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett would’ve love to have had a Dewalt battery powered saws all. That’s almost cheating in the wilderness.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
That is cheating, someone else suggested it so we thought we would give it a try.

Best places to camp are National forests. Boondocking is the best!
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, especially since it’s been so hard to book camp sites and we love the quiet nature that we get to experience.

A winner, once again - relaxed, funny, interesting, and just beautiful camera work. On another note, how do you like those Pico chairs? Are they mostly worth it because they fold up small, or are they comfy too?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment! Yes, they have a lot of back support, the seat area is flat wide enough unlike others we’ve tried. So, yes… they are worth every penny… for us anyway.

Not really, we make sure our site is clean before we go to bed (no food left out, griddle cleaned and put away and not trash left out)
