Well done pointing out the Thermalright fan benefit. Saves money on a hub. I've daisy chained 5 or 6 of them with no issues. I looked up the specs on them and compared to a $70 Lian Li 3 pack and the Thermalright fans move a bit more air with a bit less noise!

Recently got a Ryzen 5 2600 for *free* from a Goodwill lot I bought. It came with a bent pin that ended up breaking off. The pin was for HD audio, but the lot also came with a soundcard so I was able to throw it into my build anyways and get audio from the soundcard instead of the mobo. I have it paired with a RX 570 8gb and it works well for what I need it for. I'm not into super fancy builds. I love the budget ones.

Careful with Jawa. There is only a 48hr return window. So if you order multiple parts make damn sure you can test them as they come in and not just wait for everything to come in.
@Lurch-Bot2 ай бұрын
Good point. As someone who sells PCs on Jawa, I wish they would make it more obvious. If someone buys a PC from me and it was damaged in transit, it is fully insured and I keep my money and they get theirs back. But after the 48 hours, my window to easily file a claim also closes and it becomes more difficult to file a claim. But as a seller, this policy makes it very attractive to sell on their platform. I quickly get my money so I can get on to building the next PC. I'm just one person and I don't have a lot of working capital.

For $300, you can get a mini PC with a newer Ryzen APU with RDNA 3 graphics. Even the 740M (on the low end APUs) is going to outperform the Vega graphics by 50%. But I think you can get a 760m for $300 or maybe even a 780M if you can go a little over. Better option for a noob than ordering a pile of used parts from AliExpress. Even the Soyo MB is going to have a used chipset and probably used audio and LAN chips too.
@GodSaveTheUnitedStatesАй бұрын
@Lurch-Bot I agree with your rationale but the bad thing about going the mini pc route is you're stuck with a system that is very limited for upgrades and expansions. Used PC components have potential for damage in shipping and just failure from age, but the chances are slim. Regardless, some people are going to lean one direction or the other, as long as the user is satisfied at the end of the day that is all that matters.

Yeah, a used major brand B450 would be a better bet if you think you might upgrade to an X3D down the line. At least you know you're going to be able to install a supporting BIOS. Also, that Soyo board is going to have a used chipset, LAN and audio chips. All the new components and the board itself will be of the absolute lowest quality. Is it fear or snobbery that a lot of people shy away from used parts? My experience says new parts are more likely to be DOA or fail quickly, especially since COVID. Poor QC means new parts come with more apprehension for me than used parts from a reputable seller.

Just that quick editing change would help a ton! Nicely put together system, I build similar systems for flipping. I normally try to target an r5 3600, 1tb ssd, and a 1660 or 2060 super to be around that $350-400 build cost. they normally sell for $550 or $600 within a few days. Best of luck with selling this one

I've wrapped cables with gaffer tape a time or two. Looks surprisingly good if you do it well. You could probably get it in red. I wouldn't use any other type of tape, myself. Gaffer tape, in addition to being a staple in theater and film, was literally the original electrical tape. I use Pro Gaff brand. It will be the one US made part in your build, lol. It is generally just a handy tape to have laying around because it doesn't leave residue. I use it in a lot of situations people would typically use duct tape for general purpose taping. It is great for temporarily keeping cables and wires in place when you are assembling and cable managing and can definitely stand in for zip ties too. Painting electrical wiring will only really work if you get a special, flexible type of paint that is very expensive. Anything else (including Krylon plastic paint) is just going to flake off as the wiring thermally cycles under electrical load. Meanwhile, 2 minutes with some gaffer tape will cover up all your ketchup and mustard. One of these days, I'm going to do a glass panel build with the cables secured with traditional wire lacing. It is a skill I learned in aviation maintenance school and never get to use. It looks classy if you do it right. It is how they kept bundles of wires together before zip ties. There is a Connections Museum (an old telephone branch exchange turned living history museum) video on YT that covers wire lacing technique if you're interested. The channel also teaches a lot about traditional telephone switchgear. A lot of early knowledge about computing came from Western Electric's development and implementation of automatic telephone switchgear, something my grandpa was directly involved in at the manufacturing level.

OP spent $14 per 3 pack of fans (the non-ARGB ones save you maybe 50 cents per fan) and $10 for an ARGB controller. That's if he bought them on Amazon. Even cheaper if you're willing to wait for shipping from China. The fact is ARGB helps sell gaming PCs. I don't have ARGB in my gaming PCs but I put ARGB in every PC I build to sell because it adds very little to the total cost, even on an ultra budget build.
