Sharing a tip from another creator: take a sheet of vinyl used in cutting machines (the cheap stuff will do) and attach your blank to the sticky side, rubbing it down well before building your mold box. It will help with the silicone bleeding underneath and peels away easily.

I'm rewatching this video several months after initially viewing it and I have learned at lease one thing - which is incredibly valuable. In fact, I think it will be one of those videos I'll rewatch over and over 😀 One of the bad side of this BEAUTIFUL DIYs is how expensive the original pieces are to purchase initially BUTtttt, once u have it, u can make endless duplicates just by making a silicone mold from it - and THAT'S where the money is! Thank you again. 🙏 ❤

great idea using cereal boxes. That part where you ran out of silicone, I saw a tutorial where after making the mold you put the piece on a kitchen scale, tare it, and then put rice into the mold to measure the volume, that way you know exactly the volume you need, and you don't waste any silicone, and you aren't scrambling to make more. Also, I noticed you have quite a lot of air bubbles in your mold. you can use a vibrator on your drill or something that vibrates on the outside of the box to knock the bubbles out.

This is the kind of guide I needed. I don't have large machinery to start these projects. I'm only a beginner. And I've done my research of how many different ways to make a silicone mold for casting. But this is THE very first one that I have seen so far that's giving me faith lol Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for this video. I had planned to make some silicone moulds myself from scratch, but never considered using pieces like you used to make pieces that could be used in so many ways. It was also a helpful reminder to us all to remember to pick up opposite facing pieces & not just the one piece you may only plan to use straightaway. To have both will make it possible to create more items in the future & not be restricted because you don’t have the opposite facing piece. It is also worth remembering to try to buy them at the same time. Even if you are only using the one. I say this due to items going out of stock & not being stocked again later down the line. It could be worth asking friends & family to check their local store to see if they still have the opposite piece if your store no longer stocks it. You could ask them to buy it on your behalf so that you will get your pair. You could also look online as well if the store has a website or possibly another company may have them. I have learnt from personal experience & from watching other KZbin videos, it is better to use a long neck lighter over a heat gun because the heat guns temperature is hotter than silicon moulds maximum temperature threshold & you can burn or your mould so it leaves marks or can become unusable. A long neck lighters maximum temperature is below the threshold for silicone moulds. Using a heat gun over a larger area piece is okay as long as you finish off around the areas of the mould with a long neck lighter. As for a hair dryer, a friend tried it out & it created rippling waves which did settle level again, but created more bubbles in it. This information I have learnt from when I started out & from other videos. It is your choice what you choose to use, I felt I could share my experience (& my friend’s) so that it may help others.

So glad I "stumbled" across your channel. Your method is by far my favorite. I searched and a few men show how to make a mould for an irregular shape, but that involved a piece of timber, cut with a jigsaw, clay etc. None of which is available for me, but I have plenty of boxes. I just made a mould for a decorative corbel successfully, using your method. Thank you for sharing!

I know you made this a year ago but I have been struggling to make molds from my wood pieces....and all of a sudden, up your video pops....and it solved all my problems such as how to stop the silicone sticking to the wood! I saw another video where they used contact paper as the base - which the wood stuck down beautifully to.....but they didnt do the varnish. Thank you soooo much as some of those inlays are $40 a pair where I live!!!
