Yes, you CAN paint cheap LAMINATE furniture!

Can't win 'em all! I used a colour out of my comfort zone, tried products I had never used before (and should have tested out first), I was second guessing myself the whole time, AND was sick all week on top of everything else!
While I can't say that I hate the results here (and I know whoever ends up buying this will love it), I definitely would change a few things, were I to start again. This would have looked amazing in one of the other two colours I'd initially picked out, but it's fun to do a POP of colour every now and then, even if it does appeal to a smaller group of people.

The Elderberry with the black glaze turned out really pretty. The glaze tones it down just enough that the piece isn't screaming "PURPLE!!!" It turned out really nicely. I hope you and Andrea feel better soon; get plenty of rest, push fluids, and snuggle with Nacho!

Yes, it's easy to say "well I'm gonna experiment with this one" but not as easy when we make what we JUDGE to be mistakes. That's the nature of experimentation, right? When you take out a new soft roller, use clear packing tape to take off lint. I wrap the whole roller in the tape and then pull it off. The loose lint sticks to the tape and stops the fluff from being rolled onto your dresser. I like the color and how you toned it down. We have all made mistakes, especially when we’re not feeling well. I’m sorry you were ill. I pray you’re feeling better by now! You are a natural teacher. ❤🎉🎉

Hi Angie, Been binge watching your playlist for the last 2 weeks in bed while hubby is sawing logs!🤣. Sadly my computer laptop is just out of reach from my bed and You are on autoplay so I don’t always get to hit the like button and I’m stuck watching the commercials but totally worth it. I got into painted furniture early on in the movement but had to move on after a couple of years. I started watching every KZbin and TikTok video I could find and I saw you no paint restore pieces I would never even consider ! My inspiration is back! Thank you. Your meticulous attention to detail and color and design choices. With stain, oil and hardware have me so excited for Spring. My garage is full of hubby’s Harley’s and hunting gear sadly so I have zero space. But that gives me time to collect my tools and implements and start window shopping to familiarize myself with veneers vs laminate and solid wood. And really inspecting pieces for damage. I will never just slap on a coat of chalk paint again without knowing the finish is either (a) not worth refinishing or (b) not worth refinishing. You are my absolute favorite Furniture magician. I’ve learned so much. Thank you! You are a joy to learn from. You are a great teacher! P.S. my 40 year old daughter did tattoos for 18 years. She is fully sleeved and she’s beautiful inside and out. She is creating hand painted tiles right now for her new home and you remind me so very much of her. Smart, witty and slightly type A personality when it comes to your art! Only you could create something this well resolved using such a challenging color. It’s beautiful IMHO. I Seem to recall most of the pieces in your videos I’ve seen you stay in the blue to green section of the color wheel combined with wood grain. Congratulations on stepping out of your comfort zone successfully. I remember once in design school we were assigned a graphic design project using our two least favorite colors. It was a great challenge for everyone. I realized there are no ugly colors, just bad color relationships or juxtapositions. None of the furniture refinishers I’ve seen on KZbin have your eye.

I like how the black glaze deepened the elderberry. And yes, i agree that the driftwood color was a bit to cool toned, but after you added the english chesnut. It truly is a beautiful piece.😊😊😊❤❤❤

When I first saw the color you chose, I did a silent scream! I was however, pleasantly surprised at the end result. That dresser will become a much loved piece in someone’s home. I love that you stained the top two drawers, they look amazing. All in all that dresser looks beautiful. You always do a great job and this was no exception.

I have a set similar to this from my parents use in the 60s-80s. I have been thinking about updating the tall boy, similar 9 drawer chest, vertical mirror and queen head/foot boards. Your insights have given me more confidence in considering alternative ideas to simple sand and paint! Thanks.

@@TranscendFurnitureGallery I've had the sewing cabinet safely tucked away for probably 8yrs. I knew it was so pretty under all that dark mahogany stain. I watched you for over a year, taking in all your projects and different techniques. I stripped that awful stain & could not believe all the different wood species underneath. Not sure what any of them really are still! But the Odie's did just what I wanted it to do: bring out the natural color...whatever it was going to be. Though I made several mistakes (that I literally cried over!), it's absolutely gorgeous. I think my Grandmother would have been really happy with it. Again, I wish there was a way to share the photos with you, because it truly would still be tucked away without your "help." Sure hope you are feeling better and have given your throat some tlc.
