Laminate can also be made out of paper layers pressed together and that definitely needs to be very well sealed with the primer so no moisture can penetrate it so it doesn't swell or peel off.

Sanding is always recommend especial on laminate. By doing that you create a “profile” for the paint to stick on. That will most probably avoid the need for a second layer of primer. Thx for the video. I think the bottom line is to get your proposed primer which is pricy but seems to be the best solution.
@vaderladyl2 жыл бұрын
And probably avoid the "not sticking at first rolling" situation too.
@rockshot1002 жыл бұрын
@@vaderladyl Yes, even a very fast light sanding with extremely course sandpaper, does make a world of difference. This gives you the "TOOTH' for the primer and everything else to bond well. If this is a pantry shelf, or something like that, then a water based topcoat really does help. Very much worth the time and money.

If the paint is repelled you should spread it, wait ten minutes and then try again, the paint will become slightly thicker and more 'paste' like and will smear better (You can just keep rolling away but this gives you time for a cup of tea) When using a roller don't make the mistake I did - It turns out rollers have different textures. I used the same big one for the walls and it left everything a bit bobbbly, try and find a smoothish roller if possible. I had to go over everything with a big brush to make it actually flat.

Oil base primer is the best. 30yrs painter. Always light sand. Before and between coats. 3m sand pads. Paint doesn’t need sealer. The paint is the sealer. If it repels, it’s not sticking. It dried Over it and didn’t grab the finish.

Hello I’m wondering if you could help me, I loved your video and made so much sense. I’ve ordered a full pax wardrobe and I’ve gone with a grey and gold theme for my bedroom, so I’ll be doing the same with the wardrobe, would this method do great for painting the frames and doors of the pax wardrobe I assume? I’m not sure we’re I’ll be adding any gold yet, definitely some gold on the inside, I’m still looking for inspiration for how to bring the grey and gold together but the main thing is just the method of painting to give it that perfect finish you had in the video, to make it easier I was gonna do the painting before I build the wardrobe, so I’ve just got a peace to work on at a time and not a whole wardrobe painting at awkward angles etc haha. Also to add I haven’t bought any painting products yet, that’s we’re I’m stuck. The primer you suggested sounds promising! Thanks for your videos and thanks for your time 😇🙏.

I've tried painting a PAX wardrobe with and without sanding (120 grit), extending the drying times of the BIN primer an ensuring it's not too thick of a layer before painting it with colour but i'm losing my mind because after painting it using a Valspar water based furniture paint it just goes all alligator / crazied on me 😓.... I'm thinking after watching this, does BIN truly work with water based paints as it seems everyone has better results with latex. Do you maybe have any idea or experiences with this in painting any IKEA furniture?

Based on how the first coat of primer wasn’t covering well, and sort of pulling back, I believe you would get better adhesion if you simply sanded or used a gloss remover, like liquid sandpaper.
