Why are reviewers always surprised a small urban city car has a small boot?
@YesAutoUK
@YesAutoUK 4 жыл бұрын
Because it's properly small. A VW Up! has a 252-litre boot, and the Renault Zoe has over 300 litres. So the 171-litre boot on a Honda e is, well, surprisingly small - Cam

You missed the one-peddle-mode that increases the regenerative breaking to the point where you don't need to use the breaks at all. The button was in the centre console.

Is it possible that the rear view mirror is dark because that's for use at night and the camera mode is for use during the day when the camera works well and having another bright LCD screen in the cabin doesn't matter.

Perfect for which people exactly? without an offroad charging station in your driveway or garage you will not be able to top it up each night ? as most of us still park on road or even in the next street, I wonder which wealthy suburbanites this actually appeals to, because it won't be your average resident, even if they did have the £27,000 after Grant's to spend on a car confined to the city ?
@maxnewts
@maxnewts 4 жыл бұрын
What would really be cool is if this becomes a public hire vehicle. Then people won’t have to pay for parking because it’s part of the system and it also frees space up for those of us who don’t quite want a car. Also the turning circle though
@Broomehall
@Broomehall 4 жыл бұрын
@@maxnewts Totally agree, in the future every City ( ideally every Town but unlikely ) could have depo's whereby these were able to be hired by the hour, half day, day etc etc ... and you could return them to same, or other identical stations up and down the Country, it's not actually that hard geographically, set up costs yes, but how hard is it to implement? not that hard at all really, just takes vision and most of all commitment.

There are 3 problems with Honda E, despite the japanese craftsmannship: a. short nose: collision issues in an accident b. ultra small trunk: not really suited for a shopping city car c. a perfectly executed Mazda MX30, with perfect layout / size for the same price

I really love the look of this car but I think they went mad with the price. For that price there's no reason they couldn't add some more range and maybe upgrade some of the materials for the interior. It's a fantastic looking car but some things here are just a miss which is a real shame. No doubt there will be improved versions and interations in the future with better range etc so will just wait for then. Great review though, really enjoy seeing everyone else's opinions on it :)

Thanks Bryan! Glad you checked out the review. Agree, it's a tad on the expensive side but it reminds me a lot of an iPhone. There are plenty of other phones out there that do a better job, but as a package (build, performance, design) the iPhone is arguably one of the best - and therefore commands a higher price. Aside from the infotainment, the Honda e is such a tight, high-quality package. Let's hope a long-range one arrives in the future - Cam

They really should have added some nice armrests
@YesAutoUK
@YesAutoUK 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had a think about that but it didn't trouble me, as I was expecting it to. As the car is so small, and Honda is going for an 'open' cabin design, the lack of an armrest isn't too bad. I'd rather have one, sure, but it didn't trouble me during my time with the car. And 2020 does indeed suck - Cam

Let's move past the hype though and look at the reality, and by that I mean the reviewer and Honda's quote of: " It's not designed to be a car you use everyday to go back and forth to Edinburgh" .....that's an interesting point, because with a real world range of approximately 125 miles and a tad under £27,000 after your discount scheme, it's clearly aimed at wealthy suburbanites, not your everyday motorist who wishes to use this rather expensive mode of transport to actually travel a decent distance in? but that aside, perhaps one of the most important things not mentioned here is the real world charging from home scenario, it's all well and good to say " simply top it up overnight and you're ready to go to work or wherever the next morning" but in reality in order to do this you "must" have off road parking, and most urban streets for many ( at least in the UK ) are rows of terrace or semi detached houses, multiple flats in converted Victorian buildings, or purpose built new builds often on the outskirts of towns and cities, therefore a huge swathe of the population wouldn't be able to charge one even if they could afford to buy an EV in the first place ..... Fine if you're lucky enough to live in a leafy suburb with your nice £500,000 plus or million pound detached house with your own driveway or garage, but for millions of the ordinary motoring public this is simply not a reality ? ..... In today's environment EV's are a necessary and inevitable reality, and they are welcomed with open arms by the tech savvy, younger generation with disposable incomes, and indeed those intellectuals with environmental concerns and deep enough pockets to not only afford one in the first place, but also have the off road residential space and facilities to charge the bloody thing ...... until the charging infrastructure of the UK changes completely, prices reflect what the ordinary working man or woman can afford, and everyday range use increases, the EV is just a plaything or second car for those that have the means to buy it and further more the facilities to charge it at home ...... for the rest of us it remains simply impractical and out of reach financially I'm afraid. So before you rush to defend this technology and rationale, ask yourself this, just who exactly are these vehicles currently aimed at monetary wise ?

Hi Peter. It may look high in pictures and on camera, but as I pointed out it really isn't that intrusive. I'd like to see it sink a little lower into the dash for the next iteration, but it seems no higher than the stick-on iPad screens you get on a lot of cars today - Cam

3 bad points about this car! 1 > The turning circle is not so good as if you look at the front tires the angle they go over at full lock will ruin the inner tire edges of the front tires as they are not flat to the ground at full lock turning? 2 > The price even after the EV grant is far too high for the size of car and the small battery and range? 3 > The charging port is badly placed on the bonnet ( hood in US ) you go and open that up to charge in the rain and your charging port with fill with water in heavy rain, not the best way to do a port, even with some drainage in there it still could fill up in a heavy rain time ( in the UK most likely any time! ) Only a idiot places the charging port up on the top of the bonnet, other BEV's either put it on the front face between the head lights under say the cars company Badge or on the C pillar? So not good design... I could have designed it better and I am not even a car designer who is paid big time to design cars right.

Not the greatest of thinking from the reviewer. If your Family is you and a pet or 3 maybe, or just a couple then small cars are family cars and plenty take small petrols or diesels as their holiday transport.
@YesAutoUK
@YesAutoUK 4 жыл бұрын
Hi George, thanks for commenting. You're right, small cars do make great family cars - my mum got by with a Citroen C1 and it served as the perfect family runabout. But I stand by what I said about the Honda e, the boot is tiny and the range really won't get you very far - a trip from London to Cornwall, or even Bournemouth, would be a bit of a stretch. Great car, I loved it, but can't realistically recommend it as a family car - Cam

@YesAutoUK

Yeah, really wish the range was a bit better. Sure it's for urban living, but I think there will be a lot of people wanting to use a Honda e as their main car, one that can be used for long journeys and family holidays. And, unfortunately, the Honda e just isn't that kind of car, yet... - Cam

It's all about the total cost of ownership with EV's - cost more to start but a lot less to run and maintain and usually retain their value over time. I also think manufacturers need more money to start to offset the loss of servicing costs and to cover R&D costs - hell I once paid over £300 for a VHS recorder!

Ah, yes, folks, the Honda hee-hee e... . ...This obscenely overpriced, overteched offering looks like a cross between a batt-pack-shopping-trolley and a doubly concave mobile matchbox. Saleswise, here in the UK, I predict that It will prove to be a colossal white elephant. It features a boot the size of a postage stamp plus a range just about capable of carrying you twice round the block - ok, make that three times - added to which there's a charging-port lid on the bonnet resembling the top of your nan's commode. Finally (this next bit is tech overload gimmickry gone beserk and then some) we come to a multitude of screens stretching the entire length of the dash would you believe, one, wait for it, forming a mock fish tank...I kid you not. Presumably its in answer to masses of ev drivers pressing the manufacturer demanding fascia images of floating perch etc. But the car has its bad points too. [News recently reached me regarding an individual who, murmuring yuck phrases like 'Cutesy-cutesy-cool' and probably wetting their underwear in the process of viewing the thing, proceeded to put down a deposit to purchase this Japanese runabout. Weeks after taking delivery said person went into a motor accessories shop wanting a windscreen wiper for it. The assistant's response was, 'Sounds about right!']
