💥👏🎉🥇👍🤤😋WOW! I'm so glad I went with his recipe. CANDIED YAMS WERE A HIT!!! Made it for Thanksgiving. Everyone kept complimenting me on the yams, my family couldn't get enough. Only regret is not making enough, dish scraped empty. We are a Mexican, Puerto Rican family, my mom is a great cook and she gave me the biggest compliment. Even my dad yelled out, "Dang, these yams are GOOOOD! I taste the nutmeg". My brothers words, "these are BOMB!" Thank you soooo much for sharing this recipe. Much Love - from LA

I don't know anyone who hasn't used marshmallows ever. If you don't have marshmallows you can also use the kid's peeps out of their Easter basket or Christmas stocking, lol. We've had to improvise many times and they work the same. Pecans or walnuts are both amazing in this recipe.

I keep burning mine to the bottom of the pan :/ Are you on the lowest heat or like around 3 from the start? Do you just need to make sure the water barely covers the bottom of the pot?
@pamelamorris31482 жыл бұрын
I make mine in the oven every single year and have never not had candied sweet potatoes or candied yams. I use the same recipe, the main thing you don't want to do is to use too much water as they make their own. As long as you layer your Potatoes and your sugar's and stir in your vanilla & spices, then add a block of butter to the top, you'll never be boiling your potatoes in the oven. Once they are done, I then add the mini marshmallows on top and put them under the broiler until they have actually browned, just as you would when making S'mores. Unfortunately most people use too much water or leave the juice in the canned variety and this is what causes the potatoes to boil. If you have no water in them it's impossible to boil them in the oven. You can also use your oven in the air setting and they also turn out better than any on the stove top.

Hi! How long do you pop them in the oven for with the marshmallows, and do you set it at broil?

So I'll be using canned yams but definitely going to do your from scratch recipe next year... but I'm curious on what temperature the oven should be to put the layer of marshmallows on and melt them on my already cooked, canned yams? I'm guessing 350, middle rack, 15-20 minutes? 🤔

Ok. I am holdin my head in shame. A tear drop runs down my face. But I have a question. Why dont folks who make candied yams boil the sweet potatos adente first then bake? That is how they used to do it back in day.
@YESChefCreates2 жыл бұрын
Why boil out the flavor??? At that point you might as well go buy canned sweet potatoes. Plus they candy up better from raw. We have to move on from the ways we were taught with some things.

@sharonhamilton61073 жыл бұрын
Shhhhhhhhhh. Lol. We don't tell all..
@rayfulton70723 жыл бұрын
In the United States, the terms “yam” and “sweet potato” are used interchangeably, but they are completely different vegetables. Yams are starchy and have a rough, brown exterior. They can grow up to 45 feet long and are eaten in parts of Latin America, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia. Sweet potatoes are a New World root vegetable, have a softer, reddish skin, a creamier interior, and often, a darker interior. Most American supermarkets are selling you sweet potatoes, not yams
@jameshannah34333 жыл бұрын
@@rayfulton7072 no, they are not either. That's just something lazy people do. I know the difference, hence the statement: is no one aware that yams and sweet potatoes are completely different........................ if you're serving candied sweet potatoes, then say it, don't just say it wrong and just lazily say, ahhhhh that's how we say it.
@jameshutchens13033 жыл бұрын
@@jameshannah3433 calm down Karen it ain’t that serious. There’s actually history behind why we call em yams, if you looked it up you’d know…the African slaves started calling soft sweet potatoes yams to differentiate them between the “firm” sweet potatoes….simply because the soft variety reminded them of the African yams. Every single person who calls them yams know they’re sweet potatoes…kinda have to if you wanna buy em at the grocery store as that’s how they’re labeled in the produce section.
@jameshannah34333 жыл бұрын
@@jameshutchens1303 but how does that even begin to make sense, because of the higher starch content, yams are firmer than sweet potatoes........................ so how the hell would the soft sweet potatoes remind them of yams???
