Hi Chad, this is Kevin Vo Thomas, I m Vietnamese decent, I live in San Diego CA, I love to watch all your videos about Vietnamese food in Saigon. I left Vietnam when was very young high, I totally forgot all about Vietnamese culture and food, but your videos bring me back to my Vietnamese culture. I will travel to Viet Nam, Singapore and Bangkok Thailand this September. I would like to invite you and your family for traditional Vietnamese food because I have been watching your videos for free.

Dudeeee Vietnamese people are so creative with drinks. When I thought from my coffee/tea shops veteran experience, I have covered all the well-known and lesser known drinks. And new shop pops up and they have their own twists and turns (I have never heard of Sugar cane Strawberry before and didn't know it could work!) which is sublime!

Hey Chef! Love it when you talk in Viet to the vendors and pronounce the different food (or in this case drink!) in Vietnamese! I haven't been but it really helps me get acquainted with the language for the eventual trip I'm planning!
@doodahgurlie Жыл бұрын
I love it, too, and I wish more people will do that. It'll help clear up confusions like spring rolls, summer rolls, etc. Are they the fresh or fried version...well, it depends on where you live! And then there are those that call goi cuon salad rolls, rice rolls, etc. I've been on a mission to get influencers to start using the Vietnamese names. If Westerners can learn banh mi and pho, they can learn goi cuon (fresh spring rolls), cha gio (fried spring rolls), trung/hot vit lon (fertilized duck egg), canh chua (sour soup), etc.

@@TheAnatic You just need Viets to help you out. Here's me trying to help you out...when you see the ch words together, think j sound. The gi is either y (south) or z (north) sound. The t and th sounds are swapped in English. And please, please use the v and qu sounds as they are written (plus it'd be easier for you to say it if you see it written that way in Vietnamese). The south bastardized the v to a y sound so Vietnam is Yietnam (in Hai Phong, it's VietLam...egads!)

Besides the obvious yummy Vietnamese Coffee, another drink I absolutely must have whenever I visit is the cooling Kumquat juice or Kumquat Tea.

You wont see them do it often, but see if you can ask them to turn the coconut jellies into smoothie. I tend to turn them into smoothie whenever i can and i must say it's quite the drink that you wouldn't want to miss. Though i advise you to not use the old jellies or they won't mix well into the smoothie and have quite a lot of chunky bits, too young and you won't have enough jellies. See if you can find one that's just ripe I know all this because i work at a cafe and sometimes customers would buy a coconut without eating the jellies, so i just decided to try it

@@vivt6421 Well, condensed milk wasn't invented until about the 1830s by the French (Borden perfected it about 20 years later). Coffee was introduced to the Vietnamese in the 1850s. The French liked fresh dairy with their coffee, but fresh dairy is rare/scarce/not a thing in SE Asia, so they brought over condensed milk for their coffee. The Filipinos ate cut up avocados with milk and ice, not exactly a smoothie. Avocado smoothie aside, Vietnam created kem bo, which is quite unique.
