gissneric i don’t think so, the brilliance of the show was not that the seats had a lot of movement but that the movie was perfectly synchronized with the images. Simulator ride are now abundant in theme parks but they are not this subtle and convincing. Also 4dx theaters are now commonplace in many countries. I go there regularly to watch the latest blockbusters,, but since these movies weren’t made with moving seats in mind, the “Honey I shrunk the audience” attraction still remains one of the best simulator ride experiences I had ever experience.

This attraction scared the crap out of me as a kid. As someone who had an excessive fear of snakes, a giant 3D one coming for my head wasn't the most pleasant experience. Also wasn't a fan of the mice running past your legs as it made my skin crawl. But my parents loved it so I was forced to re-live the scaring experience multiple times as a kid. I have bad memories from this ride. Anyone else got scared or creeped out by it?

As a teenager I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that personally I'd pull out the "ticklers" from the seats to ensure I'd leave the theater without bruises. Hated that effect. Not literally rip them out or anything, but just pull them out so they wouldn't POP out during that scene.

The live show Disneyland has for Bugs Life is the worst, I hate it. It features a stink bug, which released a pungent odor to the audience, the sensation of being stung on your back, if you were leaning against the seat (after my first viewing I knew when to lean forward and get up from my seat) and giant 3D Black widows coming down from the ceiling! Yikes! I didn't care much for the giant snake part in Honey I shrunk the audience show either and my little twin brothers were terrified! So much so that they cried while in line waiting for the Country Bear Jamboree (RIP CBJ) because they were too young to know the difference and thought they were going on the ride with the scary snake again lol

I always loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience and the play area. I do understand why people thought it was too dated but I still wish they’d retain some of its legacy. I know Meet the Robinsons wasn’t popular enough, but I always thought it’d be great to have the inventor of the year award continue, but now it would be presented to Cornelius Robinson. The show would be about Robinson getting the award. He would show off a few inventions, the PB and jelly maker would be fun because it could spray the audience and send smells of the ingredients into the crowd, he could show off Carl, and some other inventions, then something happens that puts us in danger so Wilbur and Carl are told to get us out of there but since there are too many of us to carry, they use the time travel technology to help us escape. We go through a few time periods before we save the day and return to our own time. I think it would have been great! Oh well.

We visited Hollywood Studios in Feb 2019, and at least at that time it was seriously lacking in play areas for small kids. Too much waiting in lines and not enough room for kids to run around when they need to get their energy out. Toy Story Land would have been an obvious place to add one. It's disappointing that the play area has not been replaced.

If I recall correctly, because of Kodak's sponsorship, the Imagination pavilion also had a special lounge for Kodak employees. We went to EPCOT in 2003 and my dad was still an employee of Kodak at the time, so he went to check it out, but because Kodak was well into it's decline by that time there was nobody in there.

I got my pass in 2017 because I wanted the rose cup but I got the SoCal pass which is for the weekdays only and I have to pay for parking but I go with my brother which has the parking included on his pass. But with Star Wars land opening up soon the rules for the pass will change and mine will mostly be for DCA only.

I never got to see the play area. I did get to go on a tour where you walked in to a Wearhouse FULL of props more then I could make out. The shrink ray among them, it activated and the shelves of props appeared to grow larger as we were supposed to shrink. We then went threw a door to a seating area where a lucky few got to come up and sit on the Bee prop from the movie and blue screen them selves in to the scene. Then they got to do folly recording work. We also got to see a short movie about a woman loosing a winning lottery ticket and then see how the effects for that movie were made. We went to more places, saw more props and learned about more effects Repeat till the tour was over. When this play area was built I majorly wanted to go back but could never afford it.

@Attmay

@@BenLaurence That would date just as quickly if not more so. No modern musician has the kind of reach Jackson had in his pre-trial heyday, and Disney's not in as financially precarious a situation as they were when they opened EO in the first place. The opening even got its own network TV special, it was that big. Much of the stuff put there under Eisner's watch was pretty dated and not in the cool retro-future way. Some of it was downright cheap. How much of a future does, say, Toontown have in a Disney corporate environment where everything is either a sequel, a remake, or marvelstarwars?

All these 3D/4D attractions wore out their welcome very quickly. I remember seeing A Bugs Life, Muppet Vision, Shrek 4D and Terminator 3D (not knowing what they were) in a single holiday and deciding I was sick of the lot of them.

If they reboot Honey, I shrunk. I think people might be pissed. It's like saying you should reboot Back to The Future. You can but should you? It's a timepiece of film history. You know they'll just CGI the whole thing in the reboot. Also, Rick would have to make a cameo but Rick left acting so I mean its a hard sell. This and BTTF shouldn't be touched...Hell do the tv show again, that had at least a good jumping off point to make something out of the IP.

@tomservo5007 5 жыл бұрын
If they rebooted Honey, it would just be another CGI movie, nothing special. Since Disney owns Honey --- I'm sure there will be a remake, unfortunately. BTTF is a different story. Robert Zemeckis will never let that happen, and I believe him.

I feel like it would lessen the effects they used. Like a cop-out, blue or green screen the whole backyard. When in the original the made big objects. I feel Disney would cut corners on Honey.

Why do I get the feeling that, as the case with the reboot of Freaky Friday, we're just going to get a cheap telefilm on the Disney Channel targeted specifically for 9-12 year old girls? I'm not someone that inherently cares about movie studios making inferior reboots of movies that wouldn't translate the same in a modern era. If you don't get a reboot of something, you wind up with a knockoff because there are only so many stories to tell. But frankly, Rick Moranis made the film. He made the third one tolerable, and I'll say the TV show was pretty decent with Peter Scolari (the not Tom Hanks guy from Bosom Buddies), but only because the show managed to be its own thing instead of just shrinking them every week. I don't see the point, even financially of another modern update of a raucous family comedy that was made in the decade perfect for it on all counts. Father of the Bride and Parent Trap, sure. Parent Trap was remade, including once as an awful ripoff film with the Olsen Twins, and that sort of thing can work. Father of the Bride seems like just that kind of story they'd remake as any film intentionally or not. Honey is just going to come off desperate, not getting a new audience who doesn't care for that kind of family movie, nor attracting any fanbase that's nostalgic of the original. Again, unless it's a cheap, disposable Disney Channel teen pop flick to squeeze a little popularity out of some throwaway pop star they're promoting. At least there'd be a soundtrack of forgettable teenybopper music that a hip mom would buy for their kids to listen in the car like twice.

I once read something (though I can't find it anymore) in 2017 about the Honey I Shrunk the Kids reboot. It said that the main reason it hasn't already happened is because every time they found someone to direct/write it, they kept making it into a full-on horror flick. Every script had at least one of the kids getting killed and one writer even went so far as to actually kill all of them in each draft of the script (one draft had a kid die from each obstacle; the mower would grind one to a pulp, the bee would impale another, the scorpion sliced one in half, and the last kid was only found after being crushed by the dad's teeth and was put out of his misery with the rest of the cheerios with the movie ending on the dad lying to the mom saying that they should move before anyone finds out.) As a result, the project is on hold until they find someone who can do it without going that far. Again, this was something I read in 2017 (maybe late 2016; these last couple years are a bit of a blur when your list of reasons to end it all keeps growing on a seemingly weekly basis) and I can't find it again for the life of me. If anyone can find it, please let me know. Personally, I didn't really like the original because I already don't like bees, scorpions are terrifying, and the idea of getting eaten is horrific. Those rejected scripts, though... Seriously, as much as the original scared me as a kid and still kinda does, I feel like those pitched reboots would've been straight-up nightmare fuel to the point where children would never want to go outside or eat cheerios out of sheer terror after their parents figured it wouldn't be so bad to show them the new version. It could be rated R for the amount of death and (most likely) gore, but I guarantee a lot of parents would say "It's just a remake of that cheesy 80's movie" and take their toddler who would then leave the theater with screams of fear with only months of nightmares to look forward to.

Just wanted to add an additional bit of Trivia for Disneyland's Version of the Updated Honey I Shrunk the Audience queue, prior to entering the building itself, guest would see a series of 3 posters promoting the Inventor of the Year Award from the Imagination Institute, if I remember correctly, the 1st poster was of Eric Idle's character Nigel Channing, promoting him as Chairman of the Institute, the 2nd Poster was of Rick Moranis's character Wayne Szalinski as winner of that years award and the 3rd poster featured the year's previous winner, none other than Robin Williams as reprising his role as Phillip Brainerd from the 1997 film, Flubber!!! For those curious what they look like, here's an article from the Yesterland website. www.yesterland.com/hista.html

I worked this attraction and Astro Orbiter during the summer of Disneyland's 50th anniversary. It was pretty dated by that point but I still thought it was a fun experience as a guest, especially as a "my feet are tired just let me sit somewhere air-conditioned without having to wait in line" ride. As a cast member, I loved working Honey, especially in the auditorium, where during loading you were allowed to improvise a bit (as long as you got all the important parts of the safety spiel in and didn't say anything inappropriate). When show started you got to just sit in a chair to the side and keep an eye out for any problems, but otherwise just enjoy the air conditioned theater. There were other stations you had to work on Honey as well, but overall it was a very laid-back attraction to work (though you'd usually be rotated over to Astro Orbiter in the middle of longer Honey Shifts, which was not so great.) Also, Honey had the best break room hahaha.

Ok listen, I went to Disney World for the first time in 2005 and the Honey I Shrunk The Kids playground was my favorite, but after Michael Jackson's passing, I learned about Captain EO and because I love Disney and Michael Jackson I was DYING to see it. Then in 2015 I went to Disney for the 2nd time and was excited to finally see it ONLY FOR IT TO HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY REPLACED BY SOME EXTENDED TRAILER. My hopes and dreams were crushed. I also lost the special Mickey ears I got that year. Not my best Disney experience.

Who are these weirdos who DIDN'T like the show?? Aside from kids who were scared of mice/snakes dragged along and traumatized by their idiot parents (or adults who still didn't like the mice effect, but kept coming back to the show anyway??)? I thought it was terrific - the effect when the entire theater appears to be moving, accomplished by giant bellows/air cushions under all the seats, amazed me and never got old for me. A great movie is a great movie, no matter how old it is (I'm looking at you, Universal Studios/Back to the Future the Ride!), and I'd argue it made an even better attraction - Disneyland has quite a few attractions based on movies more than 20 years old, that rightfully are still there (knock on wood!). And the adults that I knew who brought their kids to the playground (with a similar area for A Bug's Life in Disneyland) said their kids loved it (you don't go in the middle of summer, duh!) - I was sad when both areas went away. I mark this as a fail for Disney, whether anyone else agrees or not.

Surprised they haven't done anything like this since, I know they have 4D Box motion seats that move that might add another dimension to an attraction like this!
