Something I've never seen anyone cover about the atmosphere of this attraction: The air conditioning. Despite how packed this place is, its thematic temperature control is *on point.* It's cool in the concourse, slightly warm in the robot repair shop, and chilly in the boarding ramp room. What I remember most about this attraction (other than the ride itself) was the clean smell of the cool air in the boarding room while watching the monitor above the door. I really miss the old Star Tours.

Yeah and despite how cheesy those videos from the eighties we're, in that environment they some how felt futuristic to me as a kid in the 2000s. I absolutely remember there being a distinct smell in each of those rooms too but it may have just been the temperature

This video is incredible! I'm just going to add a couple little tid-bits: 1. The Lucas quote "A special effect without a story is a pretty dull thing" was lifted from his interview in the 1983 documentary "From Star Wars To Jedi: The Making of a Saga" 2. The little gremlin seated in the safety belt video is "Teek", from the 1985 TV-movie "Ewoks: The Battle For Endor" 3. When RX-24 says "I meant to do that"..he's repeating one of Pee-Wee Herman's catch-phrases that audiences of the day would have recognized 4. When the Rebel pilot says "Red-24, follow me", Rex ("RX-24") thinks he's referring to HIM which explains why he follows him into the trench.

If anyone's curious as to "WHY THE HELL WAS THERE A THIRD DEATH STAR!!" in the original ride, here's the super-geeky explanation in the Legends continuity given by author Leland Chee: It was a much smaller fake station built by an Imperial remnant called the Kaarenth Dissension from the plans of an old "worldcraft" by the orders of Supreme Commander Ennix Devian as a ruse to fool the Alliance of Free Planets stationed on Endor (basically the direct precursor to what became the New Republic.)

Laurence Quint Agreed, along with Pablo Hidalgo. And honestly, the whole “we didn’t plan to fit this all together into one continuity, so here’s a bunch of backstories and retcons basically trying to duct tape all this together” aspect is such a fun part of Legends, and it can’t really be replicated today.

Robin agreed to do the role of the Genie in Aladdin for a few thousand dollars (which was far far less than what his normal salary was at the time) as long as they didn't mention that he was going to be the voice of the Genie and they didn't use Genie as the central focus of the Marketing campaign. That way his kids would be surprised that their dad did a Disney movie when he took them to it. From the description of the video of her spiel which Yesterworld incorporated (see the links in their description above), it says "The actress' name is Stephanie Taylor, a piece of information provided to EndorExpress.net's Brian Curran by Walt Disney Imagineering." If I recall correctly, the website EndorExpress.net did locate her, though her last name was now different and she'd become a doctor since this little acting gig. They reached out to her through a couple of email addresses, but she declined to participate in an interview, a choice which they respected.

I remember going on the last days of the classic Hollywood studios ride with my dad. It almost feels bittersweet that I got to do this just weeks before the renovation. Toy Story 3 represented the end of my childhood, This (and the Harry Potter ride with it's mountains of hype) represented an all new journey ahead, and The Scott Pilgrim movie represented my start as a teenager. I only bring all this up because you sometimes only get to experience things ONCE, and the sentimental ride on Star Tours after seeing it in a VHS I once had many hears before 2010 (the time it was ready to close) feels bitter sweet and this video made it all the more special.

Thanks for this deep dive into what Star Tours used to be! Having only been to the new Star Tours in Disneyland Paris, I am a huge fan of this attraction. It's easily the best simulator I have ever been in, especially with the really good C3PO animatronic. The only thing I would critique about it, would be that the randomly generated scenes of the ride can break your immersion as a Star Wars Fan a bit. It's not always easy to enjoy a hyperspace flight from Episode VII to Episode I, completely changing setting and displayed enemy factions. However, this attraction truly is a masterpiece. The queue is simply amazing and as a Star Wars fan you simply have to fall in love with the entire atmosphere and typical comedy found everywhere.

I am not a Star Wars person AT ALL, but Star Tours was my favorite attraction growing up. I knew nothing about Star Wars, other than what I knew through osmosis, and little me adored Captain Rex. The only thing that sucks is that I don’t recall ever experiencing the queue. We’d always take the disabled entrance because of my mom (even during our most recent trip we had to use the disabled entrance because of my grandmother), so I’ve never seen the awesome main queue. Maybe someday. But I was sad to see the old Star Tours go, however the new Star Tours was very fun. I still miss Rex, though.

@ShalmendoGlineux 5 жыл бұрын
This is one reason I will sometimes opt to stand in the main queue instead of going through disabled entrances or fastpass lines, since you can miss so incredibly much in the process! One good example is Fast Track, in which using the single rider line skips the opportunity to design a car.

Darth Jar-Jar would have actually been pretty epic, considering his bungling ways woudl have been an easy cover to his true designs... and his inexplicable replacement, Count Dookoo (or whatever) as awesome as his actor was, seemed out of place and contrived, even more so than jar-jar, had he been actually able to fulfill his original role, despite being to many a very much hated character... imagine the impact of that had he been actually instrumental in the rise of the Sith... the hatred woudl have been genuine (story wise anyways) sigh, alas, though it is only speculation not he part of many, i think it woudl have been an interesting way to go. as for the ride, i remember the original version very well. and having just goes to Disney World in january, quite enjoyed the new version as well...

I remember riding Star Tours when I went to Disney World in 2011, right before Disney bought out Lucasfilm. What I distinctly remember being so confused about was the pilot named Captain Rex. Of course, at the time, Star Wars The Clone Wars was on Cartoon Network and I got this robot confused with Clone Captain Rex from the show. Overall though, being a pre-teen Star Wars fan, I absolutely adored the ride and it was my personal favorite from the park.

Another Disneyland memory unearthed from this channel! I was lucky enough to ride the original Star Tours the year before they closed and thought it kicked ass. When I went back to Disney a couple years ago, I knew something was off about the ride but I couldn't place my finger on it, I just thought it was faulty memory or something. I think the original Star Tours is probably one of Disney's best attractions and would love for an alternate version of it. Hearing that boarding jingle brings me back. The original concept for the ride was to include multiple destinations but due to technology and budget constraints that never happened. Also interesting to note is that the simulators were the same ones used at Body Wars. While the ride did not change after Episode 1 the cast member costumes did. At the DMGM Studios the exit gift shop also changed from Endor Vendors (which had looked like thr RotJ forest bunker) to Tatooine Traders (which looked like Mos Espa). They also began to have Chewbacca and an unnamed Ewok roam the attraction at this time. Outside the building a new stage was built next to the queue line that did a short Jedi Academy show in which kids were trained to use a lightsaber and confront Darth Vader.

Oh man. I took this ride for the first time when I was 4. It was far to high of a sensory overload for my ADHD kid brain that I freaked out, closed my eyes, and held onto my aunt's neck the whole time. She had to go through the whole ride sideways with a toddler clinging to her. (I was on a toddler leash the entire time at Disneyland.) However, in 2000, I rode it again and had the time of my life. :D I LOVED IT! I am a sci-fi nerd, I've always loved Star Wars, and now I'm writing my first sci-fi/fantasy novel. I think back on this ride with fondness and use what I remember to write the space chase scenes. :) Good times. Perhaps bringing a 4 year old onto this ride wasn't my parents' brightest decision. But when I asked them why a long time ago, they said I begged them because I wanted to live the adventure like Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, C3-PO, and R2. Moral of the story: Don't listen to 4 year olds.
