Having done this a few times over the years, I can say that some of their fears were misplaced. While they can throw you out if that's their policy, security is not going to pester you for a ticket. If you're in the secure area of the airport you already have a ticket, even if it's for a missed flight. There's no getting out of the airport without buying a new ticket or taking a taxi. What I was most concerned about was being robbed while being asleep. Or missing my flight. I was traveling with two bags, so I slept on my side, using one as a pillow with my alarm clock embedded in it right next to my ear, the other one I tied to my shoe. Passport and money was in my pants pocket, while sleeping on my side, between my body and the chairs. Obviously I didn't sleep deeply, but I felt pretty secure at my property and papers would be okay and they were. And got some decent sleep. Another trick is to realize an airport is going to be more busy early in the morning than it is late at night, so going to bed near midnight like they did was probably a misstep. I think I tried to conk out around 9:00 or 10:00, knowing that by 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning people would be arriving in throngs.

Singapore Changi Airport does have a hotel connected to the airport called Crowne Plaza, it's in Terminal 3, and there's really so much stuff to do here that you could say it's a theme park really. During covid, when most flights were cancelled, they even converted some areas into an indoor kart racing. To Singaporeans, Changi Airport is a place we go to for fun and recreation during the weekends and holidays, just for the fun of it without any plans to travel. Currently they are building Terminal 5, which is said to be bigger than Terminal 1 to 4 COMBINED. We'd love to see you in Singapore experiencing everything here! :D

@NoobNoobNews5 жыл бұрын
@@MissAllThatJazz Security sees a lot of things, and there is a lot of overlap. Sometimes you have a situation where someone is breaking a rule, but isn't breaking a law. You can technically tell them to leave, and if they refuse, it turns into trespassing. Trespassing is an arrest-able offense. So, it comes down to the judgment of security if they think you are trespassing. It is the same for gun-free zones. You cannot be arrested for having a gun in an gun-free zone, but if you refuse to leave you become an armed trespasser. It is the nuance of law and how it is applied. It also isn't uncommon to see people every day, especially business commuters. Sleeping on benches are strange, though. It happens, but if you do it twice in a row, that is a cause for concern. They have a boarding pass, so they got lucky.

Difference is whether they are inside or outside the transit area. You will have immigration as the point of passage between the 2 zones. My mom and I got stuck in at a small airport in Germany at Air Force Base for 5 days with rooms booked at the only hotel next door. Had to alternate between sleeping at the airport and the hotel lobby because the airport would close at certain times. Sometimes the hotel workers would come by saying we can't lay down in the lobby when they literally have all the rooms booked, we couldn't stay anywhere else. We just layed down when they weren't looking. Really makes you feel grateful for just having somewhere to live or stay.

I go to UTC, and I've slept in the buildings before. It started as way to see if I could make less trips from my home to school, so I packed the essentials like my charger, a bag of all of my most worn clothes, a food bag, a bed in my car, perfume, etc. I slept in my car a bit, and it was very uncomfortable, but not too bad. In the building with the Chemistry people, there is a lounge room that I made one of my most frequented spots for when I want to sleep. There is a fridge, two couches with 2 pillows each that are very soft and immensely comfortable, and tables and chairs for school. I slept on the couch in the Chemistry lounge overnight, then would get up to get a change of clothes and change in the biggest bathroom on campus. This way I can also wash my hair, brush my teeth, and change in privacy. I successfully lived in campus for I believe 2-3 days. I've gotten better at it. I alternated between brushing my teeth before I slept vs in the morning in the good bathroom. Before I slept is better, I think, because after 8PM until 6AM I notice a negligible amount of people in the building. It is SO COOL. I get a while building to myself. I want to work towards doing only 2-3 drives every week. I would do this by planning out how I'm going to sleep and then doing it. Bringing enough food, hygiene products, sleep, and entertainment are all factors influencing my decision to do a Hybrid living in the buildings and my car. I have improved at living on campus, and I want to keep on finding better ways to be completely comfortable. The couch in the Chemistry room is actually SO comfortable. You can arrange the pillows to help your back and keep your spine aligned. And NO ONE comes to check on me after a certain time. There is so much privacy when I stay in the buildings at UTC for 24 hours. I definitely need to get better at it.

I would presume the level of tracking in an airport would depend on the country and the airport, but would think that the largest ones in major countries probably to have the ability to keep a tally of everyone who enters, even if it's not actively monitored. While staying in an airport for multiple days, especially under those circumstances, might be challenging, sleeping or otherwise staying overnight in an airport was at least at some point quite common. There are even sites dedicated to providing info on airport policies, cleaning schedules, location of sleep-friendly furniture (which many have gotten rid of to discourage overnight stays.) Having done this numerous times years ago, it was a great adventure, especially in the places where even the security wouldn't bother you if they realized you're not causing trouble. Of course I didn't make a video blog out of the experience, that may change things.

Shadow security checks make the airport safer though? I don’t understand

Randomly??

Shadow Shadow Hello Shadow. I can read just fine. In the original comment they only stated presumed facts (I’m going to disregard any debate about their validity). No opinion on how they felt about these checks so no tone, only stating what presumably happened. I think one problem comes from you feeling like they are attacking the airport, when they are in fact not. Next, they said they were randomly checked. My confusion comes from the way you posed your comment in response to this. It seemed to me that you said the airport was safe as a *counter* to them saying they were checked. As if you were saying that they could not possibly have gotten checked *because* the airport is safe. This was confusing to me because these 2 points seem to directly contradict each other. A check could prevent smuggling, burglaries, and other sorts of wrongdoing making the airport more safe. I’m going to guess this contradiction was not what you were going for. However, that contradiction was what appeared to me, and I’m guessing from the likes on my comment how it appeared to everyone else. I hope you understand where my confusion came from and perhaps be a bit more empathetic before labeling people as ignorant.

That's not the point... If he's out in public he won't always be wearing a name tag. It's so his face doesn't get recognised in public.

@@sidefries247 how so? Have you ever visited Singapore’s airport before, it only screams of luxury. In fact, Singapore is most likely the richest country in the Indo-Asia region. Sometimes, do some research before texting.
