As a Veteran from the US Army, I’ll tell you this- service is service, it comes from the heart. To serve your country is a great honor, yes, but it’s not limited to military service. You are serving by allowing others to see the world through your eyes and to see the peace and love you, Thomas and everyone else on Yes Theory bring with you. I love watching you guys on your travels and you are doing the things I wish my wife and I could do with our son. You are certainly an inspiration my friend and I look forward to seeing where life takes you Ammar. Peace be with you my friend, you have only 5 years left. Stay Strong!

Military service for muslims supposed to be different. I don't know if he is Muslim but generally speaking...A muslim believes in life after death and that he will be thoroughly judge on every word action he said or did during his conscience life. And he will be rewarded or punished accordingly. So if you killed or hurt someone unjustly you will pay for it afterwards and it not justified if you belong to an official army or police because supposedly God created you a free man who makes only conscious free decision. So if your political bosses are biased and not just it's better for us not to engage and be part of it...

As someone who serves in the military. I can’t imagine not having a choice in the matter. I serve because I chose too. It means more that way I feel. At the same time though, you’re serving still, just in a different way. Honestly you will make more of an impact on people this way than you probably would in the military. Keep going strong. Hi Ammar, this story really touched my heart. It reminded me of my Father, he was from Israel and was a hippy, peace loving pacifist who left Israel all by himself to move to England at 16 years old to avoid the compulsory military duty. He did not speak English and had to learn the language as well as learning to live alone without his family. He also could not return to Israel until he was 40 years old because of the military duty. Yes Theory stands for everything that he believed in, making friends with strangers and loving everyone equally despite their race, colour or religion. Unfortunately, he passed away 7 years ago but he died without regrets and has inspired me to live my life to the fullest because any day could be your last.

I’m from Egypt... I haven’t been there in 6 years+ now. The ending of this video reminded me of the last time I was in Egypt. I remember sitting on my gidu’s roof every morning waiting for the sun to rise and tearing up because I knew when I would leave, I wasn’t going to come back for a long time. Ik that sounds cheesy and all but it’s a completely normal thing in Egypt to be up in the morning to watch the sun rise especially in Ramadan. I remember holding back tears going to the airport to come back to America. I knew I was gonna miss my family, and all the memories I had made there. Till this day, busy streets, taxis, the smell of gas, loud music, loud people, and big gatherings all remind of when I was last in Egypt. I hope one day I could go back :(

To Ammar who now can not go back to his safe heaven and hug his family every day. To a man who was born in a city where he peacefully spent his youth and made his friends. I must say I was truly seized with emotion when I heard your words. It felt so heavy and real. I can’t put my words into thinking what your thoughts can stray off to from time to time, all I can do is feel only feel percentage of your pain. I am very sorry about this. Scary things can get so close sometimes huh? You will probably miss your family a lot. More and more through time. I bet you will miss waking up in Egypt on a sunny morning to hear your childhood friends playing outside, but I want you to also know that you now have friends here in America where you are currently staying. Friends who few humans can say they have. They are special Ammar, and together I’m sure that you will be able to overcome this border once again. I know they will always support you, be there for you, catch your tears and lock them away. This is your second family. I hope that in a few months, maybe years, you will wake up thinking about how lucky you were to have lived in Egypt. How beautiful the pyramids were. How beautiful life is. Before you will realize it you will be in Egypt again. time flies when you’re having fun. 😊

I legitimately had tears in my eyes while watching that compilation from your trip, and as someone who has lived in separate countries from their family for extended periods of time, I can definitely relate. The political situation in Egypt is so complicated, and I'm not even going to pretend to understand it, but I have so much love and respect for this decision.

The whole Yes Theory team exudes love and joy of life. You’re all infectious and have a positive influence. Your choice is hard because family is important to you but really respect your choice. Also props to you for continuing to speak well of your father and recognizing that his choice comes from a place of love and protection. You’re a good man.

If your father is over 6o years old you can be exempted from military service If you have any health related issues (if you have a flat foot it usually works) If you have dual nationality (you probably dont but just in case ) Anyways good luck!!!! Big fan :)

i guess from his father's perspective, he wanted him to come and serve the army for 7 years and see him everyday rather than not seeing him at all

@@RamezB. serving your country and your religion is very important in those cultures. Actions like these are seen as betrayal and harsh to accept. People are litteraly known as 'family of that guy who betrayed us and went to fhe rich west' for things like this. Its hard to blame the dad, its completly inside the culture and who are we to say their culture is wrong?
