When your TIG welding with this machine instead of pulling your torch straight away from the material, roll it to break the arc and allow your gas to continue flowing for 3-5 seconds over your weld it will help with the little pinholes and also as it's been said in precious comments you need good clean metal for TIG welding

Thanks, excited to learn. My son just enrolled in a 8 month welding class at UTI, and I bought this to have him teach me the basics as he progresses through the course. I’m sure at the 3 month mark of his class this one will be a no go for him, but for me just hobby welding, I’ll buy him a really good one and keep this one for my home stuff.

Excellent 1 year review 👍 You covered it perfectly, you are spot on about the pros and cons of the 205 DS. Thanks for posting! Ps Try taking an angle grinder flap disc and remove all the mill slag from the area you are TIG welding, it helps from spitting those sparks and keeps your tungsten cleaner. TIG is really picky about clean metal.

A tip on stick welding aluminum: Use an Oxy-Acet torch to smoke the metal, then adjust to a neutral flame and heat the base metal till the carbon burns away. That will properly preheat the piece and prepare it to receive a weld. Stick welding aluminum takes some time to master and it can't hold a candle to hi freq ac tig or spoolgun welding. Have fun.

I know I asked about that in the video. However if you watch this whole video I pretty much cover what everything does, its just a matter of finding some scrap metal of different thickness, and see what works best. You can set this thing to 170 amps and weld almost anything well just by changing how fast you travel. But that takes time to develop. best thing you can do as a starter, watch the puddle, not the arc! Next, I HIGHLY suggest watching @mikefestiva channel here on youtube he has some fantastic beginner welding videos that you can learn alot from, and they are pleasant to watch. Tell him I sent you in the comments!

Thanks, good review. The only stuff I've got that's a negative for me is that I use inductance quite a bit. Up for thick and down for thin. I'm not sure it helps penetration, but it helps me see the pool better on thick stuff and it helps with burn through on thin stuff. The negative is that for me I think it needs it's own knob. I also think the flashing LED adjust time is too short. I find that I have to go to the adjust several times once in a while when I'm adjusting stuff because it doesn't give me enough time to set it.

i think so long as your moving the dial it should stay on that parameter. its when you stop moving it that the little timer starts and it goes away. I think it would be annoying if I had to wait 5 seconds after setting it for it to accept. lol

@billsmith5166 Жыл бұрын
@@FlawedOffroad You wouldn't need to wait five seconds though, you could click the select next button till it went back to the first parameter (voltage or current, I can't remember which) and clicked the set button. It all comes down to a personal preference I guess.

Thanks for doing this video. I'm in the market for a multi-process welder. I've been eyeing the Everlast Power MTS211 which has a ton of features including HF start and spool gun but it's about a $1000. Truth is I really don't weld as much as I'd like so while it would be nice to have all those great things I'm really be better off getting this and saving a few bucks. I had seen this welder before but couldn't find any long term tests so I didn't know if this thing was for real or a throw away but it looks to be the real thing. Like you I bought those Blue Demon aluminum stick rods. Unlike you I couldn't throw my parts out because in needed them. Talk about ugly. The stuff is stuck together but that's about it.

I just got mine yesterday, so I haven't tried it yet, but one thing that I think is a big con is the power cord. The welder has a standard 110v plug, which is no big deal, but the 220v adapter also has a standard matching 110v socket. If one leaves the adapter plugged in, there is a chance that someone could plug a 110v item into an outlet that has 220v. My Everlast welder, which is also dual voltage, is the opposite. The welder has the 220v plug and the adapter has a matching 220v receptacle. So, if left plugged in, the receptacle would be non standard for most things and at worst, a 220v item would only get 110v.
@FlawedOffroad
@FlawedOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard people complain of that but it’s your equipment right? If you unplug the welder, unplug the whole thing. Heck you could even tape the adapter to the main cord if you want. I treat it as 1 big cord. So yeah the opportunity exists for failure but it’s pretty Darwin level stuff
@jimnoeth3040
@jimnoeth3040 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlawedOffroad you might treat it as one long cord, but not all will. I have already taped mine together so that it is unlikely to happen. If I need 110v, I can just use the adapter from my Everlast.

What circuit breaker size does this need? The website says this has a 45a input current and the 55DS plasma cutter says they recommend a 63a breaker. How can these be running on 110v with that kind of current?
@FlawedOffroad
@FlawedOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
Because you can’t turn them anywhere close to all the way up on 110 V. You basically get the bottom end of the range on 110. I think you can weld at 145 A or so max on 110. the plasma cutter will blow the 110 circuit after about 20 seconds of cutting even down at 20 amp setting. If you’re looking to do any “serious” welding or cutting you really need 220v

I hit like as soon as you said you burned up the insulator. It's a 150 amp gun. A 250 amp gun is available. There are weld setting apps I have to use once in a while but honestly in welding school 40 years ago we didn't have them on tge welder but some of us wrote notes on or in the machines. Porosity is likely millscale or low gas flow or extreme weld angle. Clean your metal. Shiny metal wins.

250 pro does weld aluminum, but you have to change out the gun liner to run aluminum wire. Rather than using a spool gun, it loads the aluminum wire directly in the machine. It’s really soft wire so it needs a special liner(think it comes with) it’s about $100 more but has more functionality than the 205. The 205 is still great. I found a way to attach a spool gun to the 205 but it requires hard wiring it inside the welder

What is your 110 breaker size and 220 breaker size? I've got 20A 110 and was about to run a 10/2 30A 220 but am second guessing if that's enough.
@FlawedOffroad

20amp on the 110 but the whole garage is on 1 circuit so I trip it quite often. there is a 2nd circuit I found in a covered box I plan on tapping into, to split the load. The 220 I believe is 30A from the house panel (attached garage) Funny story, my 220 outlet was actually a generator input plug to supply the house when I moved here. I removed the lockout thing at the panel and turned it into a normal outlet. Not sure on the gauge.

I use a 50 amp breaker on my 220 circuit. For 110, you'd need a dedicated 30 amp circuit...it'll trip on a typical 110V/20 amp circuit. I made a 30 foot long extension cord for the 220 and used #6 wire to be on the safe side (could be overkill, though). Haven't tried it on 110V yet.
