Hey, Just a tip from a guy who has been welding for many years with 8 pound spools that sit on the shelf for years. before you feed the end of the wire through the roller, stab a foam earplug onto the wire then feed it through, it wipes the dust and oil off of the wire as it feeds into the gun

Just an observation in regard to the leads & welding aluminum. You had the leads correct the first time. The reason it was all black and balled up on the surface is because the machine wasn't set to arc reverse. It does internally so you don't have to externally.
@elkvis
@elkvis 3 жыл бұрын
The soot is a by-product of using 5356 wire. It has a higher magnesium content that leads to more black soot than 4043. Maintaining a push angle of around 15 degrees should keep it to a minimum.
@MakingStuff
@MakingStuff 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'll give it a try and see how much it improves.
@willhall7777
@willhall7777 9 ай бұрын
Even with 4043 there's still blackness but not as bad. I only use 4043. 5356 is the harder alloy so probably easier to run through a MiG lead but what we did was run a bigger diameter 4043 instead at . 045 diameter.

That's the welder I bought with my government covid money last year. It is a great welder and I can't tell you how much it has improved my welds. I also bought one of Yes welder's marvelous True-View helmets. Best helmet I've ever owned and it was a fraction of the cost of the big brands. I can finally see what I'm welding.

If you are switching back and forth between alum. and steel welding, do you think it would be worth investing in an extra MIG gun just for alum? That way you wouldn't have to be switching the liner all the time. Great review. I'm looking at this welder just because it will weld Alum. and I have some alum projects in mind. Also, will this welder do TIG as well? God bless and stay well.

If you were going to spend the extra money I would just buy a spool gun. I just found out yesterday that Yeswelder has just released an upgraded model #250A. It is now spool gun compatible.

I am a welder with licenses in Arc, Mig, and Tig experienced and i noticed you pull the mig wire towards you! mig welding should be push into the pool of weld the same way you where doing the aluminum welding Arc welding is the welding process that you pull the rod towards you as a rule. when you push the wire into the pool you will find the weld will flatten out and widen out. you won't have the hump in the top of the bead of weld. I never have to sift from side to side like you are doing because i was told it mixes contaminates into the weld. whenyou welded the Aluminum and found it really dirty, this was cause by dirty aluminum surface probably Being a DC welder most professional welding on aluminum are AC pulse welding machine that have a cleaning action by using the AC pulse to clean the melted aluminum as it's being welded. Try cleaning you aluminum first before you weld it and see how it works. I used argone and CO2 mix gas for welding steel because the mixed gas help with deeper penetration and a hotter weld which means you can turn the amps down a bit and yet the gas create the heat. Using straight argon on steel wire gives you a dull finish over your welds if you need to weld steel it would be better to use CO2 + Argon mix and save the straight argon for the aluminum.

yea that is the gas combo he used mate. True tip about push weld. Opposite to arc eh! Always seemed odd to me? And vertical welds top down . Counter intuitive but while welding it's plain thats right!
@b0rd3n
@b0rd3n 3 жыл бұрын
"Arc welding is the welding process that you pull the rod towards you as a rule" - It's funny how even licensed welders (i am too) use "arc" welding for SMAW process, as if other processes didn'T use electrical arcs. I know, it's a habbit.. old one. I don't mean to offense. Aluminum welders also have high frequencies for cleaning and punching thru oxidation (instant forming btw)

the thing you are referring to regarding the leads is called polarity , for mig welding in general including aluminum mig welding, the polarity should be electrode positive otherwise your welding in reverse polarity.

I love that it only needs a 30 amp input power supply @ 220 volts however now I have to buy one more extension cord so I can set it outside in the floor of my dump truck and weld there when needed with flux core. I might even get a small bottle of 75/25 argon/co2 to carry out there but for now I'm going to use flux core. I have 25 ft of 8/3 already to run the Syncrowave 250 inside which reaches 1ft outside my shop door but gonna get 50 more feet so I can pretty much reach anywhere on a vehicle sitting outside my garage within 50 ft. That and whatever else the welders cord and leads allow. I chose this welder because of its power output with only a 30 amp input and the ability to weld aluminum by default but also has the spool gun option. I also like that it has a manual settings mode as well. All I've ever run is manual. It would be nice if they could have given the choice of Metric or inches for wire feed speed but 5.08 MPS is about 200 inches per minute. that and 19 volts should be a good starting place for steel mig.

@frankish5314
@frankish5314 Жыл бұрын
It isn't right. This is not making 250Amps. I just tested one today with a calibrated ammeter. Its a good machine but on aluminum (in synergy mode) it makes about 210Amps, but on any of the steel settings its drops to 175 to 180Amps.. Even in manual mode. Now you might be able to use the AL(s) mode with a steel wire and adjust the voltage but its kind of weird. On stick welding I got 193Amps with the display saying 250.

As for the welding aluminium the product is far superior to the Fe attempt, It is possibly worth owning for the non ferrous result alone. I approve of the binzel connector and the wobble socket on the lead. Very good for the rare time spares have to be obtained since it is essentially industry standard. Synergy makes my training years ago feel like a waste of time since any noob can now jump in and quickly have best result for a rank amatuer. I cannot imagine what child should need teflon tape with that outfit and the instruction book highlights how ridiculous automatic modes sometimes are. Just a solution for the novice , by appearances. I mean polarity that does not work is a horrible failing. That noted I already rate it MUCH better than my chinase mig which is tha portable I use for flux core, no shielding gas fixes. I think it's a tempting unit by the presentation here. Versatile & lightweight.

The reason for a spool gun is that aluminum wire is soft and can jam easily travelling down the guide hose, any welder that can weld aluminum can but not for very long. It isn’t just the liner causing the issue its the stubbing out that will cause a birds nest at the feeder.

No, you need AC TIG for aluminum.

I don't get it, why didn't they just use 0.030 on the wheels instead of putting 0.8 or 0.6?
@MakingStuff

Because it's metric. I agree if targeting the US market it should be imperial. The newer machines have imperial measurements, but the rollers are still .8mm, .9mm

Why do the have 8.0 on the feeding wheel for 0.30, why don't they just put 0.30 on the feed wheel instead of the 8.0? I just don't understand why they have it setup like that.

I think it's metric, but not sure.

@@MakingStuff It's metric without question! Try to memorize that 1mm is around forty thousandths, this comes up so much! SO .8 x .040 is around 32 thousandths... .9 x .040 is around 36 thousandths, see? ,6 x .040 is around 24 thousandths.... Nice video. Your setup for Aluminum has a few less steps than some I've seen, I think this might be just fine. Ah, when you are setting out to MIG Aluminum, it's well to PURGE the gas lines, run out a bunch of Argon. Your first attempt might have looked worse b/c the Argon hadn't got there yet! The lighter version (blue box) of Yes Welder has an INCH button and a PURGE button! This is a good important feature that they dropped on the bigger machine. I'm very sorry to see this, I would use both every day.

all those improvements so you can weld aluminum are because of the great success of the Austrian fronius series of welders but at a much more affordable price for your average American worker spending his or her money 💰

you're not doing any welder a justice by using that Harbor freight junk wire. there are so many better wires out there and few for less.

You need to be a lot hotter on heavy aluminum. It should be so hot that you would need a helmet setting of a shad 14 Trust me on that. You might even need 30% Helium gas to wet the Puddle. YUP.

Yikes... 250amps that can only handle 1/4"?!?!?!?! That is absolutely atrocious. I had a 90 amp stick welder from Walmart that did that... I'm sure its a good machine but there's obviously a reason its so cheap.
