I wouldn't exactly say "yet another overdrive" with this one. The Angry Charlie has been out for several years now and is supposed to be a 'Marshall In A Box' kind of pedal, not really meant to be used as a 'boost' like a TS9 or OCD.

I was going to comment the same. This pedal was clearly meant for over a Fender Clean channel like a HRDX and get a Masharll sound for when you are ginging from stage to stage where most likely they will have that amp for u. Works great. That being said, thnx Ola for giving this pedal a new face :)

From what I can find, it's been out since 2015, so it's not that new. Since JHS is an American company, it could just be that Ola's not that familiar with their pedals. He's not wrong though, there are literally hundreds of od/distortion pedals available out there. At some point, a person can buy only so many od pedals before they start to sound the same.

No doubt there are wayyy too many drives on the market..and most are ts variants but this is a killer pedal meant to run into a clean amp and use as your main dirt..it's a sick pedal.

The Angry Charlie is a dirt box, not a boost. It's actually pretty high gain on its own. You did manage to get a somewhat nice - if rather sludgey for a modern high gain amp - sound with crazy settings on the pedal and less gain on the amp, but you really have to use it in front of a clean or slightly dirty amp to get the point of this pedal.

Yes, I was going to point out that phrase was from Malmsteen, he said it the first time in the studio while the producer was telling him to back up on the solos telling him "calm down, less is more..." and him replying, "no... more is more!"

How did you miss that this was a distortion pedal and not just an OD/boost? Its a JCM800-style amp-in-a-box. Great for vintage-style clean amps.

Agree, this pedal is not an OD. It is the best distortion in a pedal I could find after trying a lot of them. It will turn any clean amp into a marshall.

I own this pedal and play it through my Mesa Lone Star head...it does the Marshall thing better than anything else I’ve ever tried or heard. JHS makes great pedals, regardless of the owner’s faith...the Christian bashing is ignorant.

JHS makes some amazing stuff! Try their Strong Mod Ibanez TS9 Overdrive! Probably the most modern and aggressive overdrive I’ve even heard 🤘🙏

Any chance we'll see you demo the TC Electronics Eyemaster distortion pedal? It's basically their take on a Boss HM-2, only they just removed the high and low knobs, with the pedal tweaked to basically have them on 10 all the time. I got one the other day, and in front of a distorted amp, volume at about 2-3 O'Clock, Gain on 0, it def has that thick, chunky, "Can of Bees with a Buzzsaw" Swedish Death Metal sound - everything dimed on the clean channel sounds a bit more Black Metal to me

I bought one of these about 6 months ago. Wish I got the Andy Timmons instead to be honest, Or maybe just need to upgrade the speaker in my amp. dunno. just seems like its voiced a bit bright/crunchy. I mostly play bluesy rock stuff tho. Cool video Ola. thanks!

Geoffrey Kelly I have the @t pedal and its awesome. Great compressed heavy mid pedal that slices through everything. Easy to adjust to any amp. Never sounds bad. I’ve used it on several different Krank models, a Marshall DSL, and 5150. All sound great and the pedal shines though.
