@makho4 жыл бұрын
Comments like this make me sad because it indicates that people aren't listening to what I have to say. No because either the battery is not indicated size (where did that extra 300mAh come from?) or because the battery is not the indicated capacity.
@DonateloGM14 жыл бұрын
Sorry, makho! English is not my main language, so I didn't hear some stuff right I suppose. Thanks for answering! Back to the questions, isn't the capacity the "mah" stuff? Shouldn't It just affect the battery life since the voltage is the same? And I don't know how they packed those extra 300mah, but I double checked and it is a 603048 indeed. I even found a 1400mah on Aliexpress, but the brand doesn't seem reliable.
@makho4 жыл бұрын
@@DonateloGM1 Right, my point is that the extra capacity has to come from somewhere. Either the battery is physically larger than stated (and will not fit) or listed capacity is not the actual capacity (which it will work but it's not 1200mAh).

Thanks. I recently bought one of the crappy teal ones and replaced the internals with one of these batteries. Bought it from Amazon and soldered the wires to the pads. It is just slightly too big and the batter cover pokes up just a bit. This was tried with both a stock AGS-001 and replacement case. :( The charge seems decent, but other than playing it, I don't have a way to test. It came with 3.0 volts and took several hours to charge and then works fine. Markings say PL 603048 3.7V 900mAh 2020 03 28. It looks like the 603048 means 6.0mm thick by 30mm x 48mm. There looks to be a LP523048 size that is thinner, 5.2mm thick with the same other dimensions, but the capacity is only 750 mAh. That might be why most of these batteries only go up to ~750mAh. No idea if my battery is ever so slightly too large or what. I think if I were to buy one again or recommend one to people, if you want to make sure the battery cover fits, sacrifice capacity for the LP523048?

@makho4 жыл бұрын
mAh is literally the capacity. The higher the capacity, the bigger the battery. In situations like this, it is nearly always safe to go with a bigger battery than spec. The danger is going with something smaller that might not be able to handle the current demands or charging spec of the existing circuit.

Because these cells I recommend are standard sizes made by reputable manufacturers (and less than reputable). The aftermarket SP batteries are all custom jobs and none are made by reputable companies from what I've seen. For the former, if you buy from a reputable seller, you should have no issues. For the latter, well, don't buy those.

Hi, dude. This is nice and informative, thanks. I have just a little question: where can I find this specific PCB? (I don't live in the US) I already found the battery and I am going to order it from the same place you did. Thanks in advance.

I have it linked in the description. Oshpark has free global shipping.

Did you take the bottom cover off your SP? Check that the square nut is still there. If not, replace it.

Just wanted to make sure, there isn’t an issue with playing and charging at the same time with this mod?
@makho2 жыл бұрын
none whatsoever, the SP supports that natively

So I ended up picking up two of these batteries. I then modded it into a cheapo battery casing. Also learned that shorting a LiPo battery is recipe for fire. However, I got it all packaged up nicely, but it still fits quite snug in the battery compartment. That is the cover closes but it kinda bulges a bit. And im a perfectionist so I wanted it super flush. Any suggestions ?
@makho4 жыл бұрын
I can't say. Mine fits flush with no bulging at all. Perhaps the latest batch of these batteries is a hair thicker or something. I suppose you could cut out the back of the battery compartment to make room for the thicker cell but that probably defeats the purpose of the "no modding required" solution. If there is anything wrapped around the battery (aside from the polymer casing which is required), I'd remove it. If there are any labels or tape, try without and see if it fits better.
@kyle88l4 жыл бұрын
@@makho yeah I mean its all good. I got it to fit pretty snugly with some work. Was also thinking it might be cool to fit a 1200mah like a 803048 battery as well with no case/housing from a cheapo sp battery

You have the specs for the battery. It's a standard size. Just do some searching and you'll find something.

USB C port is just a physical adapter. The charger is still internal to the SP and unmodified. In other words, it works with stock just fine.

Nice battery mod! I've just bought everything I need for my 3 GBA SP, thanks for the links! How can I do the same with a GameBoy Micro? Is there a suitable size available in the market with more mAh? Size in Micro is 37*23*6.7, I've found that there is a 602035 or 602535 that maybe can fit, what do you think?
@makho4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm not quite sure. There is a bit of wiggle room in the Micro so that bigger one might be fine. The last battery mod I did on a Micro, I used a much smaller cell because it was what I had on-hand. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmmaqWWtqJyVfrM

I was gonna buy the already soldered battery and with shipping and such it came out to like $22. Should I just save myself the money and get the battery without soldering done on it? Or does having it pre soldered and in a little casing make it worth the extra $10 or so?

Can you help me? I’m making a DMG 102 mod for the first time. I soldered the battery terminal to the GBA SP motherboard. It’ll charge for a bit but it won’t power on. I checked continuity on GBA SP fuse and it was good. I don’t know what to do from here any advice?

Probably your power switch. Double check that by applying pressure to the switch while turning it on.

Okay cool, thank you so much! I did get something different. I pushed it in a certain area and it was on but when I let go it went off and I can’t get it to that point again. I’m trying to find that spot again we’re I pressed but nothing. Could it be that I have to solder a new switch on there?

@@LegendOfTanooki Did you clean the power switch already? If so, make sure the shielding is installed completely flush. If you're just going to replace the power switch anyway for the mod, you might as well do it now and try it out.

makho Okay I’ll try that. Thanks again. I’m sure you’re very familiar with the DMG 102 MOD. Should I solder the new switch to fit on top on the DMG shell? Or should I just solder it back to the GBA SP mother board?
