Creatine and protein, very conveniently, can be condensed into just saying meat. Especially lean red meat, covers both of those bases. It's just more evidence telling us what we already knew, if you wanna be strong, eat meat.

When you take creatine your body holds on to more water, meaning your body fat percentage by mass would be lower. I wonder if this was taken into account.

Remember to understand where water is retained. It's muscle which is comprised of water, sugar, protein fibers of muscle cells, and plasma. You would look more shredded in this state not bloated or loose.

Hmmm, Idk if this study even reveals anything at all. Creatine increases hydration levels, right? Did they control for that? Could the increase in "muscle mass" (or rather fat free mass) simply be due to higher hydration levels?

It's mostly water weight, but it's not that bad, Your muscles do hold water So It can be a good supplement for Your physique to look fuller You can try this without creatine by Waking up dehydrated in the morning, you'll see your physique Will have more definition and During the end of the day it will be more fuller

All methods for scanning in this meta analysis either don’t scan for water weight or measure it separately. They can tell what is water retention and what is actually fat free mass

Guys just be careful with creatine and the "balding" side effect you "might" have, yes, not many experience it but do your research before start taking it because I have started losing hair becuase of it and now I have to do the opposite DHT treatment with finestride...

It could also be that the increased mass comes from water. Creatine, as far as I understand, does bind a lot of water in the muscles. So after a few weeks of taking it daily, you'll get a more or less permanent pump. People starting out with creatine, are usually also warned that their weight will go up, but that it's water being retained in the body. Were these things addressed in the study?

I have anxiety, and I read a study that Creatine might worsen my symptoms, making me more nervous. Even read that some bi-polar people got Mania from taking creatine, so ive been a little hesitant. But might go for it, seems like there is a lot of benefits

Creatine causes an increase in intramuscular water retention, so could this be the fat free mass that increased? That there was any decrease in fat, and there wasn't any muscle gained, but there was just more water being retained by the body?

Creatine just makes things faster by allowing you to get higher volume (reps, sets, weight etc.) It isn't required for getting bigger unlike working out and eating, which obviously required

Creatine helps you push that 1 extra rep, thus more muscle mass, thus harder workouts, thus more calories burned, thus more fat burned if you're in a deficit and are remembering your protein.

Creatine does not lead to hypertrophy of the actual contractile tissues (myofibrils). It's an osmolyte, so it increases the water content (sarcoplasm) in the muscle fibers. It's why subjects in creatine studies are not stronger those the in control, although their muscles appear larger.

Been taking creatine for 14 years and trust me there is no connection between hair loss and creatine, hair loss only come from stressful life Deprivation of sleep Depression and Genetics, creatine won’t play any part on that.

There was one study 15 years ago, but it was not a randomized controlled trial, and it has not been reproduced. There is a genetic predisposition to male pattern baldness -- if one has this genetic variant, then higher testosterone will lead to hair loss. So, it's likely nothing to do with creatine, but men who are taking testosterone / anabolic steroids might also be taking creatine, and might be tempted to blame the hair loss on anything else besides the testosterone / anabolic steroids. ;-) The "Talking With Docs" KZbin channel had a video on this study two days ago. (KZbin deletes comments with external links, and I don't know if they also disallow KZbin links, but you can replace the "v" query term on a KZbin URL with v=SCixIR7cvDo.)

what a terrible argument. You could say the same thing about protein. If you stopped eating it you'd lose all your gains (among many other problems!). While creatine isn't essential, it's literally found in red meat etc so how can you even compare it to steroids?

If you're doing resistance training, please take creatine. You don't need to be a competitive bodybuilder to utilize it. Best supplements I've found, keep it simple and within your budget. 1. Protein (any that works for you) 2. Creatine 3. Caffeine/Beta alanine(pre-workout)

The stories about creatine causing hair loss try to invoke the fact that creatine boosts secondary testosterone, which can somewhat accelerate hair loss in people predisposed to genetic alopecia. It is important to note: 1. The only people who could be affected are those who are already balding/thinning due to genetics; cutting out creatine won't reverse this process. 2. The affect of exercise/lifting itself had a far more intense effect on secondary testosterone than creatine does; if you really wanted to try and slow down hair loss, someone who cuts out creatine would get like 10 times more benefit from stopping lifting altogether 3. To whatever degree creatine contributes to hair loss, you could immediately cut that acceleration effect out by stopping using creatine (but once again, if creatine is contributing to your hair loss, it's because your genetics are already going to cause you hair loss to some degree anyways; creatine just clued you in a little sooner 4. The single study people use to justify the claim that creatine materially contributes to hair loss in this way was EXTREMELY tenuous So to summarize, creatine probably doesn't affect hair loss; if it does, it's in people who are already going to undergo balding in their life; and if you really wanted to mitigate the testosterone-based contribution to hairloss (which is the mechanism people claim creatine affects hairloss through) you may as well just stop weightlifting; cutting out creatine is trying to dam a river with a pebble.

While fat reduction is indeed beneficial, the notion that it must be muscle mass is incorrect. Creatine draws water into muscles, which can be perceived as an increase in muscle mass. However, once you cease taking creatine, the water will eventually leave the muscles. Problem with Creatine is that i can train much harder which my tendons can not support and which results in tendon-injuries (in my case)

I'm 27 and haven't had any signs of balding yet. I would love to take creatine, but I need help justifying it when there's undeniably SO much anecdotal evidence of people saying they experience hair loss, and only one study that says they're likely unrelated. We see one study that is different and wrong all the time, how can I know that one isn't? I get it increases serum DHT rather than local DHT, but they are connected, so the difference doesn't really validate the claim. I understand you increase DHT by working out in general, but the increase is minimal compared to creatine supplementation, which while low is still nonzero and can put some people above the average normal limit. The claim that it only affects people who are genetically predisposed to balding is baseless and unproven. I think we need at least one more study on its effects on hair loss.

It's just like selective awareness/placebo, so many people online keep saying "Creatine will make you start balding/have more hair loss", so you try taking Creatine and now since so many people have talked about hair loss with creatine and hammered that idea into your mind, you will keep paying too much attention to your own hair when you previously didnt so much when taking creatine and you will think "Huh my hair is falling" when its obviously falling the same amount as before but now you just notice how much falls, you will stress about it (because you will think creatine is causing it), you will lose hair because of said stress, stress even more..., and from there it will become a vicious cycle. My recommendation: Try creatine for a while, see if you like it and if it benefits you and don't stress or think about hair loss. I've had good pretty good results with it (running and lifting) and Im not losing any more hairs than what I used to from before taking it. Hope that helps :)

Instead of listening to this videos listen to your own body and environment. I used creatine for 2 years and I am bald at 24. It could be genetic or else but I am just one of those people that lost hair while using creatine. The fact is that taking creatine powder puts heavy load on your kidneys which eventually can catch up to you. If you really insist on using it, trible the amount of water you take daily, you have to carry big water bottle with you to everywhere.
