Kim Kardashians was actually pretty genius if you think about it. It’s the fact that the public knew that it was her, without even seeing her face. she basically made an entertainment empire out of the frame of her body. The entire world knows her figure, so for her to show up completely covered, basically unrecognizable and have people still knowing that its you is so crazy. I don’t even know if that’s what she was going for, but I think that interpretations really cool

@ayatollahlalalola3 жыл бұрын
@@siouxsbanshee i think this quote from the grimes subreddit sums it up pretty well, it's from a discussion earlier this year (they're are multiple discussions on the topic there and pretty much everyone agrees): "She never stated her preferred pronouns were they/them, and certainly never had they/them in her Twitter bio like a lot of people have started claiming recently. The only time she’s ever talked about pronouns was a reply to a tweet where she said she didn’t care what pronouns people used for her. She’s exclusively used female pronouns for herself though, personally and professionally, so I took that as meaning she just doesn’t care/isn’t going to correct anyone. As far as being non-binary she’s said some things that could be taken that way, but it was always in the context of her work and image and issues like being called a ‘female producer’ instead of just a producer. She was really pushing against that kind of labelling for years, which you could see as meaning she wasn’t comfortable with it for gender identity reasons, or you could see it as just feminism with a little dash of internalised misogyny (something she’s talked a bit about outgrowing recently). I think there might be a bit of an age divide issue as far as all the TikTok stuff. I’ve noticed many younger people tend to see a lot of things through more of a gender identity lens than a feminism lens, and so conversations about gender roles and being gender non-conforming can end up pretty confusing and messy with people from different generations talking past each other."

I think 44:04 was the first time I've ever super disagreed with Curtis. Like, sure - the fashion stuff was hilarious, and I probably wouldn't have given top marks to most of them, but saying it was 'grimy' that Grimes felt becoming a mother was a rebirth for her artistically (other than being a great pun) isn't something I agree with at all. I think that's super valid of her - your whole world view DOES shift, and if you're an artist, especially one that tries to capture their thoughts and view the way she does, it totally makes sense. We don't know what she was asked, and she didn't say "becoming a mother was great BECAUSE it shifted my art" she accounts for it as something that happened and that it made a big difference - which it would have. That makes sense. I think the reason I'm making this comment is because it struck the 'once you're a mother your world has to revolve around the kid' issue in society. People who have kids should be able to still be the people they were before and also parent - being reduced to 'everything you say about parenthood and your child must revolve around your child' is so dehumanizing, honestly, and a millenia-long issue mothers have had to deal with. And in case anyone wants to counter me with moral absolutism - I'm not a Grimes stan, she's got some cool videos and she's had some rad features, but I don't actively listen to her, and I hate Elon for being everything that sucks about Capitalism personified.

I usually agree on Kurtis' take on things, but I actually really disagree about his commentary on what Grimes said about motherhood being a rebirth (artistically). I think a lot of women feel like when you go into motherhood you become a whole different person because it's such a different chapter. And as a recording artist of course those new experiences would translate artistically. I don't know jack shit about how she mothers her child, she could be horrible for all I know. But I just think that her feeling inspired by motherhood isn't a bad thing, and her being an artist and a mother aren't mutually exclusive. She can see her child as inspiration as well as love it in other appropriate ways. I just feel like women get enough shit about how they mother, we don't really need to nitpick. End of rant lol

I think people will pick on anything that Grimes does, it’s kinda stupid to be honest. Like, she just said that having a kid changed her perspective on things, and that affected her artistic view…as it would with anybody. And I’ve seen absolutely every artist say the same thing, but for reason, if Grimes says it, it becomes weird. She said her kid calls her by her name, is it unusual? Yeah. But not once did she say it was something she deliberately told him to do, but media made the headlines as “Grimes makes her kid call her Claire” that’s weird af. So what if she doesn’t like the term “mother”, she doesn’t identify with it, whatever who cares. She seems to be very close to her kid, she doesn’t seem like the classic rich parent who outsources the parenting, she posts even the most mundane shit she does with the kid.

No hate here, but I think you shouldn't have joked about grimes for simply saying that having a baby had an impact on her because bringing a life into this world is a huge thing and would have an impact on anyone and a lot of celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Kardashians for example have talked about how being a mother changed them. You shouldn't have joked about whether her son calls her mom or not because that is there relationship. And is wrong to make fun of a mother son relationship when grimes didn't even say anything inappropriate .

the designer who made aoc's dress is allegedly operating a sweatshop and it was a "mockery", more of a direct copy, of the "Build the Wall" dress by that one conservative lady idfk who was wearing it but there are some valid critiques of the dress other than "you're hanging out with rich people !! they probably dont pay taxes, i thought you were against that !!"

Converse with formal clothing makes me irrationally angry for no reason. My biggest problem with that first guy's outfit though is that it's so white that I literally find it hard to look at. I don't think I've seen Lil' Nas X look bad in anything yet.
