I love the fact it has a fan, can tune from 24 to 29 Mhz. Not to mention all the cool other features. I would buy it before a 257 for sure!

I purchased the radio about a half year ago and it works just great on all bands. The CB (11 meters) is interesting as the SSB is so adjustable. The shipping was fast and the unit is in my radio go box with my UHF/VHF radio. The alpha military antenna with an antenna tuner lets you get all over the world on 30/50 watts. I have gotten South America and Europe and it is almost a qrp unit when you turn the power down. The units 10 meters works so well. Have fun, get your amateur license and enjoy it. N0USN.

apart from the none back lit dials. FM is quiet, i'm running an icom hc-36 hand mike, radio reports on the cept fm have improved the loudness but has taken some of the lower freq sounds away. SSB is louder, i had to lower the mic gain to approx 2-3 o'clock.

The distance you get depends on a few factors. Mode, power, antenna, and prorogation. Lately the 10 meter band has been wide open. I recently made a contact from California to Japan. That was with only 5 watts doing PSK 31. My antenna is a simple home built wire dipole. So "how far can you get" isn't the easiest question to answer.

Love the look of this radio and just about everything about it. Hope it lives up to the hype written about it too. Hearing varying reports about power output some say 50 watts some say 40. Cant wait to fit mine in the car and head for the hills for some serious dx'ing. Thanks for the video. regards Dj1

Strange that 10 years later the internet is awash in cheap 10 meter radios but very few have SSB. I found this searching for the Optim-778 that actually has LSB and USB on its display but the radio is only FM/AM.

I have the old school magnum 257, and although I love the radio, this is the much more modern version, obviously, this thing has all the stuff I like about the Magnum, but even more. Still, I love my Magnum, but since I bought mine in 2001, maybe soon I may upgrade. I like the fact it does 12 meters. Nice review though!

I started using cb radio back in 1978 or so and 10 years later got my ham radio license to an advanced. I am officially retired now from work but still working in the drop retired program with the state for another 2.5 years. I plan to get this radio or equivalent for portable use, when I fully retire from work and setup at a nice park area living here in North Palm Beach Florida. Antennas for these radios are more compact and simpler. SSB is the best way to go and also FM is a neat feature! Who is the distributor for this radio in the USA?

I first had the Radio Shack AM/SSB CB , then later when I was a Tech plus ham I had the HTX-10 amateur radio version. I had it for long time, passed it on to a ham buddy a couple years ago. The cb radio version could be turned off and restarted with a combination of buttons on reset and it restarted on the ham bands. Maybe that's why it was discontinued.

It reminds me a lot of my Magnum 257, I always enjoyed the radio, quite simple, yet robust radio, I've had it for over 10 years and not a single problem...*knocks on wood*...but this is pretty nice, I'm surprised they still use that same case design, I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@CenturyofTerror10 жыл бұрын
You need a license. It is 300 bucks give or take 30
@ComputerLearning09 жыл бұрын
+Felipe Rodriguez You *DO NOT* need an FCC license to operate this radio on the frequency you specified, or anywhere in the 11-meter (CB) band. You would only need a license if you want to operate in the 10 or 12-meter bands but if your primary area of interest is CB and the "freeband" zone then you don't need any license for this.
@mikeka5cvhurich7739 жыл бұрын

+Felipe Rodriguez License or no, This is not an FCC type certified radio. Even if your have a ham license, a radio that do 20 watts on 11 meters is not legal in the USA. With that said. I have one in my truck and I absolutely love it. the feature set is great. If I ever decide to venture off of 11 meters I may get my ham ticket but my radio is still a non type certified radio.
