If you don't have the commander up or if it gets constantly removed the cards on the deck doesn't seem to have a lot of individual synergy. I had a lot of problems with previous commander decks where the commander ability is so important for the strategy that you feel powerless if you don't have it on the table.

Black has lots of recursion & green ramps so hard its unlikely your commander gets removed enough to offset that. Squirrels with it is my plan

I have an assassin tribal deck with Ezio Auditore as my commander. His main ability is that if you do damage with an assassin or commander that turn, you can summon assassins for a “free running” cost of two black. He’s a major threat and is therefore removed constantly. Suddenly my legs are taken out. If your strategy completely depends on your commander, it’s definitely risky

Depends on your meta, if you're playing with high lvl cEDH decks then yes this will suffer. Also it's BUDGET deck.

That very reason is why I play Ygra in an Abzan deck under Colfenor/Tayam interchangeable commanders. The deck runs great without Ygra, but I can tutor for it, or get to it organically, with plenty of options along the way. Then as soon as Ygra hits, I'll drop a Creeping Corrosion and replay all my recursion fun to rebuild into the next board wipe. A couple of regenerate or protection spells waiting to save Ygra and just let everything else go again. Anafenza is a nice little gem in the middle too, since the board wipes exile everything that died for your opponents, and it crushes dredge strategies which make for shorter games. Hangarback Walker is also nice for a little free-play loop as long as a sacrifice engine is in play to build the cat into an absolute monster.

It’s important to note that Ygra specifically says that a food must be put into the graveyard for it to get the +1/+1 counters, so killing tokens will not trigger it (although milling might, idk)

Tokens touch the graveyard so it’ll trigger Ygra If you sacrifice tokens.

If you can find enough 0 cost mana rocks then it might be. But iirc most mana rocks cost at least 1

I'm very curious about the whole "create token artifact creatures" and destroying them.. Does token creatures really count towards the Ygra counters? Because the card states "Whenever a Food is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put two +1/+1 counters on Ygra, Eater of All." The problem here being "put into a graveyard", considering token creatures doesn't go to the graveyard, but seizes to exist. It seems to me it has to be a permanent creature with "it's also a food", and not a token creature as they do not go to the graveyard.

Tokens do go to the graveyard, that's where they cease to exist. Hence, death triggers for tokens count hitting the graveyard.

Tokens which would go to the graveyard still trigger abilities such as 'whenever a creature is put into a graveyard'.

This deck suffers from monolithic commander syndrome. It sucks when your commander is not on the battlefield and once your opponents realize this, your commander becomes KoS and your deck falls apart. 👎 💩
