That is correct for every internal art. Place the emphasis on the mind. Polish your Hsing and your Yi until your art becomes clear, natural, and spontaneous. Forms and stepping patterns are only (no pun intended) stepping stones. Good luck! Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association

I doubt that Ba Gua is underrated, but a lot of the concepts are hardly understood and people think to theirselves after a time, what am i doing here. There are a lot of other systems more easy to use without all the knowledge needed for the internal arts plus the special conditioning that is used to make it functional. A lot of concepts of internal arts are very unique and need be specially trained, that is so the other one cannot imitate it this easy and steel your ground. Plus a lot of the ancient concepts are very advanced and allow a lot more power generation than most of the normal arts do. Another thing is all the secret guarding that is done in kung fu styles, one day this is probably to make most styles go extinct. And on some days i am not sure if this is a good thing, seeing what reckless use people tend to do with this stuff if you let them.

Thanks for Comments. I don’t disagree that Bagua seems like it would take a while to master and He Jinbao’s videos are a great example of the practical application of Bagua and it looks very powerful and effective as he applies it.

@@smhickel Most of the students of Haichuan already had martial arts experience, even today a lot of people first study xing yi and taiji to comprehend the things utilized in ba gua (like the footwork is heavy from xing yi and other things like the deflection or the swimming body concept is heavy taken from taiji). I for my part think it is worthwhile, i had a lot of good results with it, yet i saw some documentary on song xing yi here on youtube that made me obvious i learned everything very incomplete like most people are taught but still i am satisfied with it.

Many have trained just Baguazhang and did fine. It really depends on the teacher and his ability to convey what's necessary to gain skill. As well, let's face it some just have things that hold them back as students. We all want the Holy Grail. We will take any cup sometimes and try make ourselves think we found it.

@@jbouse64 Do you mind to explain what message you wanted to convey? What i read is basically there are good students and bad, plus there are good teachers and bad ones. Finishing with fake it till you make it. Not sure what you wanted to tell me.

Ba Gua is comparable to Aikido in many ways, the line between takedowns and hits on the limbs is incredible thin and ends a lot of time with people falling to the ground. After all one of the most important aspects in internal arts is the flow of movement. While boxing stops after its combinations, the internal arts stress the flow of each technique into the other one as if you watch a dance.

i usually tell people play it like a hurricane, do not go after the other one but let him be sucked into your technique. The tornado shredds things without beeing influenced by the outside. It is the ultimate circle to me.

Well duh There's a butt load of grappling in traditional martial arts. This isn't new information technically.

@@tonytomahawk5160 Thing is that yin ba gua is known for doing mainly strikes while cheng ba gua is usually more about grappling or throws

@@PaMuShin I'm in no position to disagree. However My point is that traditional martial arts in general including the striking arts have more grappling than the average person thinks. Off balancing techniques both push and pull Locks Dislocation Throws All of which are literally grappling. 40+ years in this and my Shuai Jiao instructor was the closed door master for instructors. Back in Chicago ages ago. On paper he was the Tai Chi instructor for the older crowd and yes Bagua was one of his favorite things to teach. Shuai Jiao was the only style of Kung Fu I technically learned and I had the privilege of connecting with a lot of different styles. So yeah there's tons of actual grappling in traditional martial arts.
