I think that it is great that people have preferences for genres (similar to "I hate action movies" in respect to films) but I also think that it is good to make note of that predisposition. Saying "X is bad" is different than "I don't like the entire genre X is in". Importantly, if someone dislikes a genre, it isn't expected that their review will be positive and thus people don't get defensive when a great movie/game is discounted for being in the wrong genre.

I read over the rules a few times and it does say that you have to move the ring that you put the marker in.

Thanks! I should have checked the rules again before I opened my mouth. Not sure why I thought differently, but admittedly I haven't played the game in a few years. That said, I stand by the rest of my words - it's a very solid game with a good self-balancing mechanic and some interesting strategy.

theme? :) what can you say about the theme in.. chess? :)) it is an abstract and doesn't pretend to look like anything else

It's actually quite a good game, mechanics wise. I think Tom messed up in that you don't remove ANY ring when you score - if I remember right you remove the ring you used to make the scoring move. But anyway, that aside the game itself is quite solid, and the way the game gives an advantage to the player that's trailing is very unique, and does help the game stay close. Yes, there's no theme here - it's as abstract as can be - but as 2-player "classic" style games go, it is one of the best.

Nope. Rule G states- 'remove any of your rings & put it on one of the 3 spaces at your side of the board.'

Very interesting game, and (as always) a great review! I've noticed that you have Takenoko in your collection. Could you please make a review of it? :D

i don't mind much for games without theme. find them boring. perhaps you don't , and thats fine. but i have the right to find them boring, whether they are called abstracts or whatever.

abstract, boring theme. seems almost as bad as hawaii, in my opinion.
