Well, at least Swedes and Finns should get this quite well, too. This could be from Finland, frame to frame, word for word. Except they'd be sure to mention the sauna and the lake, the first of which is basically obligatory, and the second too unless the cabin is by the seaside. Ok, half the people take their cabin life so seriously that they wouldn't understand what the other half find cringey about this. But I imagine people from other places with a tradition of spending time at cabins or summer houses might relate to a lot of it also.

That line is a pun that is probably hard to understand if you're not from Scandinavia. There is an expression in Scandinavia that goes "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes" roughly translated. What they've done is that they've used the Norwegian/Swedish word for clothes - "kläder" and made it sound a little bit more English - [klether]. When I first heard the song I actually didn't react to the pun, since it's quite a common expression in Swedish, but once I got it I laughed until I cried.
@joyc945011 жыл бұрын
Patrick Thörnlund Patrick - it's so good to know about the klader/klether expression. Thanks! I thought they were referring to the word 'pleather' - which is an American English term for fake leather made from plastic. But, listening more carefully I do hear klether. I also noticed that Vegard said they play China Chess. In the US that same game is called Chinese Checkers. Nice to learn about these different things. .Ylvis - SO talented!

@qvistenable8 жыл бұрын
It's a made up word, but is supposed to mean 'clothes'. The whole sentence is a saying in many countries, and in scandinavian languages, 'weather' rhymes with 'clothes'. "Det finns inget dåligt VÄDER, bara dåliga KLÄDER." This is Swedish for "There is no bad WEATHER, only bad CLOTHES." It doesn't rhyme in English like it does in Norwegian and Swedish, so Vegard made it rhyme.

@LilyJars9 жыл бұрын
Tommy Laukkanen what does it mean? I heard its the brand name of the jacket thing he's wearing...or something like that. Was it a reference to an advertisement?
@linforcer9 жыл бұрын
Lily Jars No, a saying in Norway is "det finnes ikkje dårleg vær, berre dårlege klær" where vær and klær rhyme, and roughly translated to "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" and it is taken to mean that if you consider the weather to be bad, you're just not dressed for the weather in question. It's your fault, not the weather's. Obviously the saying doesn't translate too well, nor does it rhyme, so they decided to translate klær with the nonsensical "kleather" rather than something along the lines of clothing. This keeps the original meaning decipherable for Norwegian speakers and I guess at the same time pokes fun at bad English maybe spoken by some Norwegians.

For those that doesn't get "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad kleather": Norway has the saying "there's no bad weather, only bad clothes." In Norwegian, weather and clothes rhyme. The word for clothes in Norwegian is "klær", so kleather, is the nor-english word (with the Norwegian conjugation of nouns - the "er"-ending) Vegard obviously HAD to use, to make it rhyme in English. We all know Vegard won't have it if the words doesn't rhyme xD

I mean it's kinda parody for all the smooth jazz music which is made in the same style, not for a specific song or artist. They are playing excellently with the style attributes of the genre.

It's like this guy visited my Grandma's cabin in NM. It's 6 hours from where we live, has a million kinds of silverware, we just dug a new hole for the outhouse last year. All of my family uses it. Has electricity, stove, fridge, lighting. Only thing is we can pull up to the place without having to walk 40 minutes.

Just a tip. Please refrain from using those two-letter abbreviations. KZbin is an international forum and people outside the US don’t know what 'NM' means.

...and all your neighbors in Finland :D Having a cabin (which has at least some of the things mentioned) seems to be a thing the Nordic folks have in common. It's hilarious :D

I wish they would have added a photograph of the Norwegian royal family in the outhouse..so many cabins I visited in Norway had the royal family in their WC :P
@NoNeedNoGreed4 жыл бұрын
There is a logical reason for it. People used to clean their behinds with newspapers, but no decent Norwegian would use a page with the picture of the royal family on it, so they ended up keeping it and framing it. Also during the war, it could be dangerous if the Germans spotted you honoring the royal family with a picture in say your living room, but the outhouse was usually a safer place and you'd most likely see them every day. /EndofEssay

No other really understands the hilarity in this than us scandinavians. apparently all the cabins seems to be no less than how they depict it in here :''D greets from finland..where our cottage is in the middle of nowhere..
@beatlegirl997711 жыл бұрын
I don't know...I'm from the US, and I TOTALLY get the humor in this. My fiance's family has a fishing cottage in Michigan in the middle of the woods--we've had our share of spaghetti dinners waiting for the place to get warm. We have an indoor bathroom, though. :)
@DuckytheLoon11 жыл бұрын
Tina Kukla is right. I'm from a southern US state, but instantly get the joke. Having a cabin is something of a cliché in the northern and western US where there's lots of cabin-worthy land. I imagine the Scandinavians have just perfected it to a higher art form. ^_^

I started watching Every Frame a Painting lately (yeah, I know, late to the party a little bit… still loving it and curious to see Tony Zhou pair with some top notch director). With that said - directorial and editorial work in here is absolutely top notch. From introducing the work environment (e.g. mug entering from the side, sounds of high heels and phone ringing, close ups on hairstyle, shoes and macbook to show she means business), cabin location (fallen leaves shot, lake, slightly dirty undercarriage of jeep), actual cabin presentation (wide shots to show details, lighting/color to show when he's cold as well as next-to-the-chimney-i-love-the-roof scene) and final entertainment choices (cuts on "walk and walk and walk and walk", fire reflections during impossible to spot joker) as well as nervous breakdown of his wife with chatting coworkers in the background - loving the contrast! Oh and music? I loved it since I first encountered a couple years back so I won't even go into details.
