this game is an integral part of a core memory for me. My grandparents had a gazebo, and this gazebo had electrical outlets. My cousins and I hooked up a chunky smallish crt tv and played this outside, and then when it got dark and cold we brought it to the attic. i love the aesthetic of that era of games where developers were just like "you know what? fuck UI, readability, and basic convenience. we're going IMMERSIVE" and all the information that used to be instantly accessible like health, ammo, etc can now only be accessed by something silly like your character loudly announcing to himself how much ammo he's carrying and hyperventilating like a creepy prank caller when he's low on health.

It still baffles me that Skull Island: Rise of Kong released just last month and comparing it to this, a movie tie-in game that came out in 2005. While this game had its share of problems (I honestly don't remember the game having that many problems when I played it for the PS2), I would still rather play this than the 2023 game.

I had the DS version of this and never got to kong levels because the FPS parts (yes, it was an FPS) controlled like ass. You had to use the touchscreen to look around and the sensitivity was ass and you couldn't get it right, it was either to quick or slow as tar.

When Kong's shadow makes it look like he's levitating, I suspect that they were too lazy to animate Kong's arm moving up, so they decided to move his whole body, thinking that no one would be able to tell the difference, given the camera angle, but forgot about his shadow, which is hilarious.

I dont care, im gonna be that guy. Giving this game a 3/10 is frankly insulting. It's clear that the game's choice to convey things to the player without having an intrusive hub on screen or pause menu was not appreciated by Adam but then he also attributed this to the game "poorly communicating" to the player. Thats an interesting statement considering the very high, not only critical rating but also player score. By Adam's own admission he isn't the best at video games, so this not factoring in to how he judged the game was annoying. The game, based on *the movie* was clearly (and then out right stated in it's special features) attempting to deliver a cinematic experience. When you watch the movie, i dont see any health bars on the characters, nor does the peril of the situation pause for you to check inventory, hence it's exclusion. We have seen many games since ALSO emulate this aspect when going for a similar vibe. Adam may just not like it when they do that, which is fine, but it is not a mistake and in the case of this game, it was done well. Some nitpicks. For a game made in 2005, the likenesses are pretty good, remember that Max Payne 2 was game that came out around that time and is notable for the main character's face literally just being stuck in a permanent squint. They're called "V-Rexes" because they're not "T-Rexes". Yes, no one in the movie or even this game out right says it, but in the lore of the movie thats their name, for people that want to know. So the game metatextualy will not refer to them as "t-rexes" since that isnt what they are. The reason given in the BTS for Kong 2005 is that every living thing on Skull Island has evolved to be a super aggressive version of it's non Skull Island counterpart, even the human. Basically, it's a made up version of a normal dinosaur. Apparently the PC version has sound mixing issues related to hardware compatibility, the console versions dont have that problem. Yes, when the Giant Gorilla roars it is loud. wow. should it *Not* be? To say Peter Jackson or his production's involvement barely mattered in this game simply speaks to a lack of experience in how bad movie tie in games typically are. Which is to say, they are nearly always, *ALWAYS* bad. By that metric alone i would say, no, i think Jackson involvement had a significant and *positive* impact for this game. Ultimately i believe that Adam's own dislike for the movie this is based on plays the largest part of why he didnt like this game, and he probably went into the game ready to hate it. The game could have potentially risen above that low bar but since it is basically an interactive action game mostly based on the Skull Island portion of the movie, and stays very close to that movie, well then it doesnt really stand a chance does it? I would be surprised if a game based on Ghostbusters 2016 that follows that movie closely could get me (or even adam) to like it since i do not like anything about that movie at all. it's possible, but very unlikely, which is a shame because unlike Ghostbuster 2016, Kong 2005 is actually a good movie, but Adam doesnt think so. Finally, and this is just something that comes up in a lot in all of Adam's playthroughs, and it's clipping in video games. I admit im not really able to think of an apt metaphor for it, but basically, clipping happens. it isnt always a mistake but Adam seems to think if something is very well made it will *NEVER* happen but thats just impossible. Ok, i think a good metaphor would be, complaining that very old movies dont have color. I liked this game and i liked the movie tho so im definitely biased. Game is a solid 7/10 and the movie for a long time was my favorite movie and is still in my top 3.

I don't watch Adum play games because he's good at them, I watch him play to see him throw tantrums when the game isn't catered to him specifically. Adum isn't a game critic so you shouldn't take his review scores personally, otherwise you may as well get upset over every review that doesn't directly mirror your own feelings and that's just a waste of time.
