Wow!!! I have watch several videos on this subject and I must said...this is one of the best videos on YN 560 TX and YN560 flashes. It help me tremendously with the set up of my TX with my two brand new YN560 IV by the time the video was over. I didn't need to read the manual. It's confusing anyway. I also like the tip on using the R603's as remote triggers. Again great video!!!! THANK YOU!!! I'm now a subscriber!!!

Great review--watch this instead of reading the inscrutable instructions. I've been using Yongnuos since the II (which, by the way, fell off a 6' stand onto concrete, breaking the red lens...I pieced it back together and it still works as before). And thanks for the tip on remote triggering with the 603s. Never knew I could do that.

After demonstrating the remote camera triggering you said "It doesn't get better than that". However, it does. With the Cactus V6, you can control the power levels of the flashes from the unit you are using to fire the camera (-> relay mode). It also has a dial for adjusting levels and direct control buttons for each group. The V6 does not only have many more features it also supports the basic functionality in much more effective ways.

Hey thanks for connecting in. I've never used Cactus products before so really can't comment but looks interesting for sure.
@essellar

The problem with the Cactus V6 units (and don't get me wrong, I'm a Cactus fan) is that it won't work, except as a dumb trigger, on manual-only flashes (other than the Cactus RF60, of course). With the RF60, you get pretty much what this Yongnuo system offers. With most digital-era TTL flashes (like the SB600) and with anything that's got the old TTL/OTF mode (where the quench signal comes through the hot shoe) you get remote power control, etc., provided that you have V6 units acting as receivers. And the absolute power setting (that allows you to match power with different flash units) is great. If you have Yongnuo flashes, though, all you get with the V6 is a (*very* good) dumb trigger; you can't remotely control YN560III/IV units, just remotely fire them. While the Cactus RF60 is a nice flash unit, it *does* go for a little over twice the price of the YN, so if you're building a system it's going to be more expensive. If you have existing TTL and film-era TTL/OTF flashes to work with and build upon, it's definitely worth looking at.

PATHTECHDESIGN Hi, thanks for the warm welcome. Try the V6 sometime, if you can. You come across like someone who would appreciate the great handling and features.
@coolcat23
@coolcat23 9 жыл бұрын
essellar I'm not sure why you refer to it as a "problem" that the V6 cannot remote power control manual only flashes. Nothing can. However as you say the V6 can remote control the power of a large number of flashes from many brands out of the box and if you have a legacy TTL flash, chances are the V6 can create a profile for it. That's huge compatibility, compared to the Yongnuo products that don't even have proper compatibility across their own range. Yes, the RF60 is pricier but going via Amazon feedback it also seems more reliable and has a lot more features, manual HSS, for example.
@essellar
@essellar 9 жыл бұрын
That's not precisely true, though, is it? The V6 can remotely control the RF60; the YN560-TX can remotely control the 560 III and IV (the IV acts like a controller, just like the RF60). The RF60 costs $170 (approx.), while the YNs cost around $70-80 -- and a lot of people already have 'em because they're just plain decent flashes for the money. As I said, I'm a Cactus fan, but there are some very, very good reasons why people might want to go to the Yongnuo system, especially when building a system from scratch.

Thank you very much for this review! Can you say if the 560-TX provides an autofocus led grid like the 622 does? There is a field on the device, but I never saw it glowing red. That would be the last killer feature in my opinion. Can't wait to get mine.
@PTPhotoGearReviews

No it wouldn't because the tx is manual only but I'm sure you'll find this unit just as handy as we do. Cheers

Thank you for your answer. The 560-TX can be operated as a "sandwich" with a 622 unit for af lightning. Also there is a new (ex hacked from flash havoc) firmware (1.02) which gives the 622-TX a proxy mode. With this you can controll the 622s remotely in manual mode with the 560-TX. That's pure awesomeness!

Thanks Randall. I'm nervous about buying anything on line without testing it first and I couldn't find a definite answer to "will this work on an a99?" . So thanks for confirming. I'm thinking of selling my yn560 ii and getting a few iii or maybe IV (but there seems to be restrictions on the amount of groups you can have??) Anyway, thanks very much. I've used generic triggers until now and i'm sick of running round my lights changing ratios. The yn560tx looks just the trick and is within my budget!

Randall Williams Lovely stuff. thanks! I only shoot manual for model work, headshots etc. I've been toying with the idea of getting something TTL for the few occasions I shoot on camera (which is rare). Thanks for the review! I'm waiting for my unit, but I'm a bit confused after watching this video. All of my 560IIIs' were made after january 2013 but they don't have group settings as yours (below chanell settings). Perhaps the group switcher on the speedlite is being shown after the YN560-TX is turned on and connected with speedlite?

Hi Artur, many thanks for connecting in, at first glance I thought the same about mine but just follow the instructions you'll get with your TX to put your 560's into group mode and you'll likely find out as I did that you do indeed have a group mode. If you get stuck don't hesitate to email me and I'll try to help. If I start getting a lot of inquiries on this issue I'll punch out another video to address it but I think you'll find the instructions being in Chinglish as I call it and a tad cryptic do get the job done. Cheers

Hello Pathtechdesign. I have 2 YN560-III plus Canon 430EX-II. YN-622C Trigger/receivers. Sometimes feel I need to have E-TTL. But that may not be necessary. But I would prefer to have High Speed Sync available. Just an option if having to shoot in brighter conditions. I don't like to use ND filters and restrict my view. And I don't want to always be shooting at F8-F16, to keep with in the camera sync speed. Any advice or suggestions.

You might want to check out the Godox V850. It's a manual flash, but it uses two different triggers. The FT-16 allows the remote manual control, while the Cells II allows HSS.

Just bought the yn650 Tx trigger. Can I use this trigger with mix studio flash strobes? I have 2 Godox strobe and a Neewer strobes. I'm new to flash photography and I like to be able to save some money.
@PTPhotoGearReviews
@PTPhotoGearReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudio, yes, I do this occasionally with my Flashpoint Studio 300R2's but your flash has to have the sync port. So basically what you do is plug a sync cable into the sync port on the back of your flash the other end to an RF-603 for example and then the 560 TX will pick up the fire signal but this is manual only. You won't be able to remotely control the studio strobe but they will fire. Hope that helps. Paul

So to clarify, the only way to control the power/zoom of each flash individually you need to assign each one a different Group?
@PTPhotoGearReviews
@PTPhotoGearReviews 9 жыл бұрын
shaolin95 Hello Shaolin95, yes that's right. Typically I will have 2 or 3 560III's set to channel 1 but one of the 560's is set to group a, one to group b and one to group c but all on channel 1. This ensures all flashes on channel 1 will fire but channel a might be at 1/128th while channel b is at 1/16 etc. Hope that helps. Paul

PATHTECHDESIGN Oh one more thing, are you able to sync any higher than 1/160 without issues? Not sure if it was your video but I think someone mentioned something about using multi will make your sync speed drop or something. Anyways my Sony A7ii should be able to sync 1/250 but when using this wireless flash, 1/160 is the best I can do.

Based on your review I purchased two 560 III and one 560-TX. Because batteries can go bad I do not want to leave them in unused device; when needed I put batteries in. Cordially, RicD

Hi Ric, thanks for connecting in. I think I have just the answer for you. Have you ever heard of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries? www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?N=11047698&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi The latest version of these batteries hold 75% of their charge for 3 years so no worries about the bats going dead and these batboys really work-been using them for two years with absolutely no issues. Most strobist photographers use them in their speed lights these days. Can't recommend them highly enough. As for losing their pairing, that's almost a guarantee if you remove batteries, sorry. Hope this helps. Paul

PATHTECHDESIGN Good morning. Yes, I am familiar with Eneloop batteries. About Duracell AA and AAA batteries, allow me to share information I have read in blogs, photography sites, and battery reports. Looking down on the top of the battery where the positive terminal protrudes, if it has a white ring they are the same Eneloop batteries then packaged with the Duracell name. How true that is I cannot confirm.
