If anything, Ynnaris themselves are what screwed the eldar lore. They are a stillborn faction that was supposed to merge all eldar faction permanently for the AoS40k (ie 8th edition), but after the crashlanding of Age of Sigmar 1.0 that plan got quickly canned, too late to take back the primaris and ynarii that were already part of the End Times 40k (ie Gathering storm). They will forever stay as a lore wound on the eldars. With a bit of luck they'll get a cute bandage that will make them at least look interesting, but deep down it will still be an aborted bad idea.

@@EVER_PRINCE kinda, basically the last crone sword they need turns out to be in slaanesh's palace, which could have lead up to a big Eldar gathering to fight or maybe a gigantic super heist on the palace. But, the author must not have liked Eldar very much cause the book was poorly written and the yannari where made out to be completely helpless and incompetent. Naturally Eldar fans hated it and most didn't buy it, so GW scraped the series and the third book will never come. Sums up how GW treats Eldar in general pretty well. So yes they lost their only chance at victory but not through the lore, but through poor writing.

@@nodachibull8342 It’s actually funny because at the end of the 2nd book the Ynnari are perhaps the most powerful of the Eldar factions just in terms of pure power too. Three crone swords, a very angry Yncarne, and the war shard itself even lends its strength to the Ynnari faction. Not to mention the help of harlequins and notable characters like Jain Zar, Eldrad Ulthran, and Lelith Hesperax give them the scariest collection of heroes from the Eldar race we’ve ever seen. And they all just get decimated in the Phoenix Rising lore segment and have never recovered since. It’s like GW realized they went too far too fast and pulled the reigns so hard the car crashed into the side of a wall and burst in flames. Well, it was a nice run while it lasted. Back to being background characters for another 5 editions or so.

Its particularly funny that these guys can't take corsairs when you realize they are basically a corsair fleet on their own, and the Visarch has been the base they use to design the look of the new corsairs. GW REALLY dropped the ball her (but then again, the corsair themselves have been a pretty disastrous ball dropping exercise on its own).

That’s the biggest thing to me, she even has Corsair friends that help her escape right in the beginning of her lore. The second biggest, she can’t team with phoenix lords- when she teamed up with Lelith or whatever in the same story as above. So she can’t do what she’s done. Gg GW, gg.

2 Main archetypes for competitive ynnari lists: Alpha-strike & good-stuff Alpha strike is voidraven, Hemlock with storm of whispers, yncarne, farseers/shadowseer for mortal wounds, 2x5 rangers, 1x5 kabalite (cheapest troops) or 1x5 wyches (cheap & some use over kabalites), banshees in Falcon & ghostwalk, scorpians, 6 hawks + other stuff. Good stuff: basically everything auspex outlined.

I really like the idea of a Hemlock with the big AOE mortal wounds cast that people sometimes use. Hard to take down, then gets replaced by the Yncarne. Can really create a huge hole in the enemies battleline.

Although Drukhari units aren't that common, the Voidraven if you already have a flier is very handy for its bomb, and a single baseline squad of Kabalites is a decent choice to fill the third troops slot in a battalion.

I've been looking at Ynnari lists for a while as I bought the Triumvirate box for the HQs a while back (still unbuilt and in my pile of shame...). Since the updated rules I haven't invested in any Aeldari units yet to let me run them since I have a lot of drukhari already. The Yncarne looks really fun to play

i was playing a ynarri player a couple weeks ago and my redemptor brought the yncarne to only 2 wounds left... in melee, now that would have been an easy finish by either calgar or the lieutenant (both in melee) but then he just used the autarch to finish some small troops unit and teleport the yncarne out... feels bad, man

A few things: Shadowseers are very good takes in Ynnari. The wording behind whether you can use their support spells is a TO's nightmare, so most competitive lists just run Mirror+Shards of Light. They're still great, give nearby Troupes -1 to wound, and are very capable at sniping foot characters out or dealing damage without requiring line of sight. Kabalites are Eldar's cheapest troops choice. If you're not building around Scout the Enemy with Rangers or big bricks of Troupes, they help you save 15pts when filling out a battalion for a unit that can sit in the backfield and screen deepstrikers or score RND. Very popular in the double plane Ynnari lists, who are very strapped for points between the Hemlock, the Voidraven, and the Yncarne. A lot of lists take Baharroth in an auxiliary support. Baharroth is just OP. 2CP for teleporting obsec that's infuriatingly hard to kill and is actually pretty good at bullying backfield objective holders is absolutely worth it.

Honestly there are many craftworlds that have allied themselves or are direct allies of the Imperium, much more than the yannari who only helped big G because it furthered their goals. Iyanden is a good one, they have an inquisition embassy on their craftworld.

I will always maintain that their army power should have been a tally like Epidemius for total wounds inflicting on the battlefield. Each stage would give bonuses. And once per game each character could be revived by spending a large number of wound tokens. And also Knights of Ynnead

Well a farseer is only as powerful as they are because they are lost to that path and so Focus on only that for the rest of their lives like an Exarch and despite how it seems there really aren’t that many farseers and it takes a lot of time to become one and Yvraine isn’t that old for an eldar and is actually really powerful for what she is

I really like the idea of them and bringing together the various space elves but not a fan of the limits on taking units from drukhari/ harlequins. And wish they could take corsairs, just because they are neat

@Auspex Tactics in your talks about the 'Inevitable Death' rule it sounds you could only teleport when a friendly unit is destroyed. But as how I read it and found other people reading it on the interwebs you can also teleport when an enemy unit is destroyed. Can someone clarify this?

Yup... any unit. Particularly funny uses are when an enemy charges and kill a friendly unit.... allowing you to bamf over there to shoot and charge on your next turn. Can also use longer range, kill confirming units like dark reapers, sup weps, shroud runners, etc, to selectively delete a weak enemy unit with the goal of giving you somewhere to bamf to.

Would you say the main reason to play Ynnari then is just to utilize the Ycarne? Because most lists are primarily craftworld units with 1 to 3 Harlequin units. It almost seems like you play Ynnari if you want to use Harlequins but not any of their characters.

Cant have runes of fate, but can use fortune ? plz elaborate. Because as far as i know even if you take an auxiliary detachement for a farseer. That farseer is still going to have to be the Ynnari keyword wich means the farseers runes of fate psychic powers will still be switched to the revenant discipline.

Yeah, it breaks detachment rules. Fortune is also craftworld locked. I've seen lists where they bring pheonix lords and they shouldn't be able to too. Edit: He just said the wrong spell. Fateful Divergence, not Fortune. Just a slip.

Also runes of fortune is a psychic discipline and it has a power that gives you a CP and is a discipline that farseers and Spiritseers have access to the only discipline you lose by playing Yannari is the one only farseers get and you can still get one of those if you wanna spend 2 CP for a voidscared corsair unit

Harlequins can take as many kisses as they want and 2 of the other two under 10 models. Then they can take up to 4 of all the special upgrades not including kiss.

A really high skill army. Give these to your average player and see how he fails miserably. In the hands of a competent player they become really scary though. My only problem with this faction is how good the Ycharne is coompared to the other 2 special characters

I'm a ynnari fan, I've been an eldar fan for 20+ years. I hate playing them, I hate how GW handle eldar in general to be honest, I liked the 9th ed craftworld codex at first then armour of contempt dropped and I just haven't really played them that much since, it's like I hate the different treatment than imperium. Ynnari? gets absorbed into eldar codex and are honestly a shitshow of "we can make it work but is it really that fun, was really that much added?". Like I couldn't give a damn about win rate, when sororitas go from a white dwarf article to being a full range then getting a big expansion on that range, when world eaters are getting their own codex while we get "absorbed" into a codex alongside harlequins... It just feels kind of scummy. I don't want to play ynnari even tho I love them, losing the phoenix lords is shit, especially jain zarr she is literally the biggest bro to the ynnari in lore. I really really really want them to stop ditching their efforts with lore and really invest into it, space marines have long since become same shit different day lore wise with some occasional good books, if only GW had some balls to invest even at a loss in building that side of the world I think the return on investment long term would be really good in multiple ways. I honestly firmly believe from all the people I've spoken with that no matter how good an eldar book is, no one will buy it, because of fear of investment. If you invest in a book that you hear is good that's meant to be a part of a trilogy, but then only two books come out and they say no third, then no shit when there's a lack of trust in GW continuing any good momentum, whether it's lore or a codex, they've got a track of abandoning, shafting, or even giving up on finishing things. What fan would ever be insane enough to want to invest in that? Tabletop wise, I really really wish they'd buff Yvraine to be something a little bit more special, add jain zar as an option, give us a really interesting UNIQUE to ynnari troop option, and some unique Drukhari ynnari army rules so that the whole "you can take from every kind of eldar" is more than just two options.. Or better yet, give us a codex which has it's own rules, own stats etc make ynnari it's own army whose only thing shared with craftworld/drukhari/harle is the use of the models, not the rules. This subject always pisses me off tho, still pissed at the end of 8th start of 9th treatment ynnari fans got, alongside the shitty halfassed incorrect keyword faq drukhari got and the treatment of the ynnari lore books.

@@Unknown-qj9sm Unfortunately Nephlim overrides the books and because if you mix Harlequins or Drukhari in the Ynarri detachment they don't have the Asuyrani keyword, Nephlim states "Every Unit must share the keyword" they only got FAQs to count as the keyword for the purposes of SoF. This was recently clarified by GW tournament staff.

Most of their units bounce off of DG terminators but most of their units are so fast, they’ll dance around your movement. Use clever positioning and sit on objectives in favorable zones. Make them have to engage you and have poxwalker screens take the mortal wounds. Follow up with a counter charge. Plague marines are great at killing elves but can’t stand up against their assault as well so try to utilize that.

You can add a Drukhari Voidraven bomber using its 1-per-game drop to cause even more, and it gives the enemy 2 planes to deal with. With the exception of Tau, this is hard for a lot of them.
