In my personal opinion, this is a great show to watch if you're a big fan of the Hanna-Barbera classic cartoons, or just want to watch something light hearted and "Slice of Life" genre. Trust me, after seeing plenty of cartoons with dark elements in it, I think we can all agree some cartoons are worth watching, no matter how goofy, lame or even outlandish can be. Heck, I grew up on Hanna-Barbera cartoons when Cartoon Network first aired on tv in the 90's, alongside Nickelodeon, and I can tell you that watching the classic cartoons from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's were plenty good for a ten year old. Besides, Yo Yogi wasn't the FIRST cartoon to be a "Adult characters turned into young kids and/or teens" series, and it won't be the last. A Pup Name Scooby Doo, Pink Panther from the 2010's in teen form, Baby Looney Tunes...Just to name a few. They were made as a way to draw in the younger viewers, who probably have no idea what said characters were. Also, this was the 90's, fashions back then WERE nothing but bright colors, retro patterns, baggy materials and what not. I'm PRETTY sure that if shows like Steven Universe, Pokémon, Ed Edd and Eddy or The PowerPuff Girls were seen 30 years later, some KZbinr other commentators would point out how "Weird" the clothes we wore now looked! Yes, some stories may not be everybody's cup of tea in this show, but it was pretty well written for it's time back then, basically like how the Sonic Boom series was written. Mainly due to Fourth Wall breaks. (Despite how much the games didn't work out to some people.)But look at the Wacky Races 2017! This is a really good example that a cartoon series from Hanna-Barbera CAN be great if written properly and with the fans in mind. More importantly, I'd like to think that the writers would have that "How would William Hanna and Joe Barbera approach *Cartoon Series* to have the factors of shows like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Mickey Mouse and other fan favorites? Taking consideration of this, I think the best factors of the Hanna-Barbera series would be fourth wall breaks, stories that great humor, adventure, characters with traits and personalities and plots. I can also imagine the writers writing episodes where a couple stories would have characters facing problems or situations that we can relate to. For example, Yogi and Huck meets a rabbit character with Vitiligo, a genetic condition that effects the skin color, who gets bullied for their appearance. Something that's been shown in children shows, like Sesame Street, which started introducing characters with different situations. Julia as an example, who has Autism, and is by far one of the most beloved and favorite SS characters. I'm not saying one series should be changed to be "Cool or Radical", I'm saying that with the right ideas, a bit of imagination and some knowledge from watching the original shows, cartoons like Hanna-Barbera would make a great show and have as much popularity as some other shows like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs and even My Little Pony. Heck! My Little Pony originated from the late 80's, but if it wasn't for Lauren Faust, the Friendship is Magic series wouldn't be what it was today: 9 years of comedy, adventure, creatures based on mythical creatures, well written story plots (Sometimes) and the overall theme of friendship. And fans who've watched that series are thankful of how much it changed them in a good way. Final thoughts: Even though the cartoons from the 90's WERE weird and strange in it's own way, imagine this...Had channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon NOT existed, there wouldn't be the cartoons that people have grown to love today, and it's those cartoons that gives inspirations to future animators of today. On a side note though, Animaniacs WILL return on Hulu in a brand new series this 2020. No official date yet, but this PROVES that cartoons from the 90's CAN be that good and worth the watch. Anyways, even if the stories of certain cartoon series are bad with puns, punchlines and such, other factors like music, voice acting and animation will more than likely make up for the lack of story. At least Yo Yogi didn't have the Limited Animation thing like it did years ago, when Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound cartoon series first began. The animation HAS gotten better during the years, and I personally hope that Warner Brothers will consider making a DVD movie of those characters and their friends....WITHOUT the whole WWF or Wrestle Mania gimmicks and such! Guest appearances, yes, but we've already had enough Wrestle Mania movies from Warner Brothers...I counted like four or five, including the Surfs Up Wrestle/Wave Mania. I think I get what Warner Animations were doing, but... What's the point? At least the Tom and Jerry movies with beloved stories like Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka were a bit more creative. But I think that's just my opinion though.

Old Shame: Of the 100+ shows that Hanna-Barbera produced, plenty are considered just as bad as Yo Yogi!, but this is the only one that Boomerang outright refuses to re-run (at least in the United States- it apparently showed up on one of the foreign Boomerang nets a couple of years back). At least until 2019, when the Boomerang streaming service finally included the show.

It's kinda weird the backlash on this show was bad as it was by networks and the studio. It wasn't notable but it wasn't *that* bad. Like I could see myself putting this on and laughing at it with my husband while there's shows around it's time or after I couldn't stand.

Great video, you even managed to breathe new life into the tired Nicholas Cage "Not the bees!!!" scene by presenting it as a silent movie! Ye gods, "Yo! Yogi" looks awful, I'm glad I never saw it first run. The Magilla Ice gag was the one joke they thought of that legitimately made me laugh, even if it does date the whole thing even more.

I'll say this as i've said in other videos. Rewatching a cartoon from my childhood days as an adult, it seems obviously apparent that the premise of this kids show was to make yogi bear more relatable to the pop culture of 90s genre by separating its elements from the classic series, which is understandable since it was outdated. I still dont understand why the show got so much resentment from older fans of the yogi bear classic era. The intended audience of the show were kids of the 90s that were more connected to 90 genre pop culture. Looking back at the tv series, the idea of the plot was way more grounded than other cartoon teen mystery solving shows, such as a Pup named scooby doo. For example, the main cast of yo yogi series only solved crime mysteries since they were working a part-time job (Lost and Found Agency) and spent most of their time at the mall because it was a common trend for teens in the 90s. Since Mall theft is a common thing and teens usually work and shop there, having the yo yogi cast be associated to mall mystery solving activities via working a part-time after school job (Lost and Found)' just seemed very practical and a reasonable storytelling concept for the show to incorporate story plots that were tied to crime solving mysteries. At best, the show did show enough respect to the classic yogi bear cast by having their teen counterparts retain most of their adult persona quirks. If some of the die-hard fans of classic yogi bear cartoons didn't like the concept of this show, then I felt it could have been best if they introduced all the characters in the yo-yogi series as children of the classic yogi bear cartoon era. I felt the titled character "yo-yogi" could have easily passed as the son of Yogi Bear; Yogi bear jr.

A group of teenagers Yogi Bear (Greg Burson), Boo-Boo Bear (Don Messick), Huckleberry Hound (Greg Berg), Snagglepuss (Greg Burson), and Cindy Bear (Kathie Soucie) solve various crimes, capers, and mysterious within and around the Jellystone Mall as the mall's Lost and Found or L. A. F. (pronounced "laff") Squad under the direction of security officer Smith (Greg Burson). Yo Yogi is a 1991 Saturday Morning cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera produced for NBC during the network's final year of Saturday morning content aimed at children before NBC scrapped their Saturday morning line-up and rebranded the programming block as a teen block with TNBC and building it around the one show that survived the shakeup, Saved by the Bell. The series would be later syndicated in repeats on The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera weekend programming block on Saturday and Sunday mornings on local stations, depending on the affiliate. Yo Yogi would be the final Yogi Bear TV show produced (not counting some one off guest appearances and TV specials) until 2021's Jellystone nearly 20 years later. Yo Yogi was not well received upon initial release with the series feeling very played out and labored especially with the advent of the 90s giving way to series such as Tiny Toons Adventures that had more ambition in the writing and animation. Yo Yogi! was a non-canon update of Yogi Bear and friends, this time as teenage detectives in the local mall.

Its interesting how older fans of the early yogi bear cartoon era hate the yo-yogi series, while the fans that were the target audience of the new yogi bear cartoon series "yo-yogi" enjoyed the show. Then there are the bandwagoners that deliberately antagonize this cartoon because other critics hated it. To my knowledge, many kids of my age group enjoyed this show when it was introduced on television. We even thought the theme song was also catchy and fun. Based on rumors, it seems the idea of this show was setup to fail due to internal disagreements at the main studio. Guess, the executives of hanna barbera were not too fund of new ideas introduced in the yo-yogi series that didnt cater to their nostalgia. Going so far to mention teen yogi's design to be akin to a whoremonger, which was just an over the line satire. If the rumors were true.

@@FictionAddiction It does make me wonder. Which is a crappier concept for a Hannah Barbara property? "Yo-Yogi" basically representing everything wrong with the 90's, or a low budget "Five Nights At Freddy's" style bloody horror slasher starring "The Banana Splits"?
@AndrewAmbrose2 ай бұрын
What's incredibly ironic about this whole fiasco is that Yo Yogi premiered the same year that the Cartoon Network began on TV, and that channel introduced plenty of kids of the '90s and 2000s to Hanna-Barbera classics, creating a new generation of fans better than Yo Yogi ever could. In fact, this continues to happen now in the 2020s thanks to C.H. Greenblatt and his Jellystone TV series.

Genre-Killer: While Yo Yogi! may not have single-handedly killed the popularity of Saturday Morning Cartoon fare, its failure almost certainly made its long, painful road to decline irreversible. NBC (the show's network) was the first to ditch Saturday morning cartoons after the failure of this series, with the other networks slowly following their lead for the next two decades.
