Since starting her blog, "Generación Y," in 2007, Sánchez has become the Castro regime's most internationally visible opponent. Her site gets millions of hits per month, and hundreds of thousands of people follow her on Twitter, and she uses those platforms to shed light on life within the western hemisphere's last true dictatorship.

You're grossly mistaken. Most of the dissidents are black or mixed race. Berta Soler, Wilmar Villar, Dr. Oscar Biscet, Tamayo, Guillermo Fariñas, and many others are black. On the other hand, the senior officials of the regime, including those 2 sons of a Spanish soldier, Fidel & Raul, are all white. Treason? Dissidents are arrested, beaten, tortured and murdered for criticizing the Castros, or for demanding the gov't respect human rights. This is considered treason in Cuba.

very interesting. When is the U.S. govt. going to realize the best way to defeat communism in Cuba. Is to lift the trade embargo and to allow citizens to travel freely. Our culture and freedom is our biggest weapon.

He vivido en Dictaduras Militares de Argentina. Todas apoyadas por la CÍA, Pentágono y otras "Agencias y ONG" made in USA.

She did answer the question. She said at first the gov't didn't think a blog would have any significance. Later, by the time they realized how well known Yoani was on & off the island, they decided it was better to harass her, mock her and accuse her of working for the CIA rather than simply shut her down completely. The server for her blog is in Europe & she send updates via email. Short of locking her up in prison, it would be difficult to stop her completely.

...you're not helping yourself. Show me at least one country in Latin America without dictators, mass murders, huge crime, poverty, civil unrest, corruption and with good health system PERIOD. Maybe Chile, but Chile had a dictator until not long ago. Maybe Uruguay, and I don't think they're anti-american. Venezuela, Cuba and such, which are anti-american, are certainly not greatly developed countries. Being anti-american does not make a country automatically great. Probably on the contrary.

What if there was no US led blockade of Cuba. Would Cuba be a poor country? Well I dont think so. Was Cuba better before? Yeah for money laudering US mobsters and feudal style capitalists. Please show me at least one pro US country in Latin America without dictators, mass murders, huge crime, poverty, civil unrest, corruption and with good health system At least one country within last 40 years.

sure because maybe, just maybe, things are not as bad as "they" (the so called dissidents who are a REAL minority, I'M CUBAN) picture it, and though there are a lot of things to change in Cuba (and that's of competence only to Cubans!!!! ) there are a lot of other things and goodies that you can't just ignore and come on! read a bit of history of revolutions, in Cuba, simply put, the conditions to fight against the regime are not met, why? that's your homework...

Where do you get your statistics? I always hear about this 1% and 99% coming from the most economically secure people in the world, with the highest standard of living. Unless you are homeless, Americans are all 1%ers compared to the some 1 Billion people who live on a dollar a day around the world. Cut the crap.

So the American tourist has some sort of superpower that the rest of the world's tourist do not? FYI, tourism to Cuba has been around for 15 years now and very little has changed, specially on Human Rights and basic freedom like internet access that is widespread and affordable!

Last year, over 39,000 Cubans emigrated, half of them without permission from the gov't. The Cuban people continue to vote with their feet. Many are willing to risk their lives on flimsy rafts rather than live as slaves under the Castros.

YES Jay Z and Beyonce have super powers. FYI European tourists have been traveling to Cuba for more than 15 years and I'm jealous. $1.50 A tweet is not affordable.
