I have never understood the whole "strike me down and I will be more powerful than you can imagine" We never see force ghosts do anything , their entire purpose seems to be some spiritual cheerleading squad. Last time I looked , cheerleaders usually don't win or lose football games.

in the ESU, force ghosts are written in the way Tolken did with magic in his world.. Tolken wrote magic as 'soft magic' where it isn't really explained.. Same with force ghosts. The largely accepted cannon is, a force ghost is only possible if you are a light side user, a master, and one with the force. Also that you transcend the force. You don't seem to have full control over your force abilities anymore as you are in a higher plane of existence - something a sith cannot achieve. In the E.S.U. sith can only achieve 'immortality' by cloning their bodies as the power of the dark side decays your body and your flesh cannot handle the stress of the dark side over time. In the movies, Luke got spoken to by force ghosts.. in the E.S.U. Leia did too by her father (Yes the force ghost of Vader) only briefly... and Luke's children only briefly by Mara Jade Skywalker (who yes did die). I don't mean spoken to, i mean visited by. she never spoke and i presume she wasn't powerful enough in the force to speak as a force ghost, nor powerful enough to stay long enough as one. We accepted that it took someone very gifted in the force to hang around longer than a few months/years as a force ghost, and could only manifest and speak if they were very strong in the force and had a strong attachment. Yet even so could not linger too long in the corpreal existence as they have to move to the 'beyond' eventually. Anyway force ghosts are only in a few books, in the 'over 150 books' of the E.S.U. and I don't mind that they are never really explained. I like that they should never be over utilized.
