Wow! Hello! Your grandfather was an incredible inspiration to many, many people, myself included. I watched this show on TV when I was a teenager. He taught so well, and his programs were so much better than the KZbin instructors I see now.

And me too, in New Zealand in the 70s. I have my book that accompanied the tv show somewhere. Great guy.

Aged 16 in 1974 I used to do the exercises in the book from the series. Mainly to prevent being bored as I never went out, saving my pennies for my first mode of transport, a motorcycle. However, fast forward, now aged 61 I just bought the book again to try and loosen up my ever stiffening body that I have acquired from riding motorcycles all my life.

I watched Richard and Lyn after school every day and it was so good, I became good and supple, a wonderful class, have been to many since but never enjoyed any of them like Richards. I wish it was Bach on TV.

I would have been around 4 years old when this used to be on television during the day (ITV). I was fascinated by it. Even ended up buying a book on yoga from WH Smiths when I was 9. I meditate daily now and there's no doubt that this series planted that little seed. Thanks for the memories - where did 50+ years go!?

This was the start of home health via the TV in the UK. It was the first time leotards became fashion. It led to Jane Fonda and her workout since people wanted more action many years later. This show led children to look after their bodies . It changed the UK for the better. It was very high rated in the late afternoon slots it was shown on television. It was also linked by virtue of it's follow along method to another show produced in the UK which also linked itself to "arts and minds" and that was I think by Robert Harbin and it was origami.

Richard Hittleman is the Oracle of Yoga, I watched Yoga for Health and followed along in 1976! He was before Wai-Lana and before Lilias! Now I am much older, and have started his Yoga For Health DVD's of 30 lessons for 30 days. Also am on his diet. Love the mellow thmese music, too. Namaste!

Richard Hittleman said to meditate on fruit. My first meditation was on an apple. It left me feeling awe that each ray of sunshine and every raindrop that kissed it from above was contained in the apple.

It's a shame the original title sequence has been replaced, but at least there are a couple of stills from it instead with the theme music right at the start. I guess this has come from the DVD series that Richard Hittleman sold direct on his website.
@MrEurochannel4 жыл бұрын
Darren, I noticed this too. I think the DVD's are recordings from the export version, which were sold to TV stations outside the UK where the programme was made (by Thames TV in London). The original version was made on videotape, and I believe the original master tapes are either at the ITV archive in Wales or Leeds. What this version is, is a "telerecording' a filmed version of the original, filmed off a flat TV screen . A film copy was easier to distribute to other broadcasters and was very much cheaper than making copies of tapes to send out. The original tapes will look much much better than what we have here or on the DVDs. There are edits to titles too which have been made for this export version, to accommodate the peculiar advert breaks practised on American TV stations, which would appear at different intervals from those seen on normal commercial TV in the UK.

I purchased this series about 11 years ago from here www.richardhittlemanyoga.com/ when it was then issued on 10 CDs (? I think they're CDs as less DVDs would likely be needed to contain all series episodes). I think the original title sequence appears only once on the first ("A") disc. It would be nice if someone would dub and post it here.

Richard Hittleman, famed yoga guru and spiritual leader, instructor of "alternate nostril breathing," used to smoke cigars. He'd snuff them out when students came around. When he got angry, he gave the silent treatment. Sometimes he busted out in a tantrum. He insulted people. Finally, he locked horns with the IRS in a futile, obsessive struggle and lost, and didn't live to tell about it. According to friends, Richard's illness was an embarrassment to him, and hidden even from them. Apparently, Hittleman left his family nothing. Except his ex-wife, to whom he bequeathed an impossible burden.
@christopherturbitt2252 Жыл бұрын
if Mr Hittleman snuffed out cigars before students came round, how do you know he smoked them ? Were you there when he "insultede people ?" If you were not, how do you know it happened ? Have you ever had any dealings with the IRS ? As for his illness, what else should he have done ? When you are ill, do you tell everyone about it ?

Ok it looks cheap and dated, but this show was shown on Britain's most popular television channel in the seventies and led to a surge in popularity for yoga over here. Also Lynn Marshall became a very successful yogini in here own right.

I've just seen on Pinterest that Lyn Marshall even recorded a yoga instruction LP back in 1975 called LYN MARSHALL'S COMPLETE YOGA for British audiences.

Hittleman died of prostate cancer at 64. There are other factors to health than just yoga. Then again, given the plandemic and the loss of trust in mainstream medicine, who knows what his doctors did to him.
@vordman6 жыл бұрын
These two are clearly in good condition here, but neither reached any great age. Hittleman died when he was 64 and Lyn Marshall when she was just 48. So the benefits of yoga are rather dubious.
@solsticepilgrim6 жыл бұрын
I think Richard Hittleman died of prostate cancer in 1991 and Lynn Marshall in 1992. I don't know the cause of death? I think Cheryl Fischer, as mentioned below, might still be around?
@kathleenmckenzie62616 жыл бұрын
Vordman: That is a conclusion based on incomplete evidence. For example, either or both may have suffered accidental deaths or an infectious disease or suicide.
