i love how humble he is. i think his genius comes from his "limitations" as he is _technically_ not that complex, but instead works around odd time sigs and bar pushing by simplfying it down to a count similar to the way this is described. in an interview he once said that he is counting very simply and i guess all the extra notes are played almost subconsciously. what amazes me is the way he maintains such power and heavy strokes, there are no ghost notes, only full strokes. its all about the patterns

Great choice to do a monthly meshuggah vid. One exercise that might be fun is a classification of ALL meshuggah riffs, by how they treat the partial polyrhythm that inevitably gets cut off when they have to repeat the 4/4 sequence and go back to the start. Because they sometimes just plow ahead and immediately cut it off with no accommodation, sometimes they add a boring extra beat, sometimes a whole mini phrase on the 4 upbeat, and in Clockworks intro case, you're showing that they just do silence, which I never really comprehended about this song despite listening to it multiple times a week for 4.5 years, and which is pretty fucking cool.
