Honestly it's definitely growing in popularity, and it looks great on everyone, however the logistical issues and maintenance is too high for it to be a practical everyday fashion option though that wouldn't stop me XD I like having fucking shiny legs in my cute shorts

Iirc a similar idea popped up in at least the book version of Ender's Game (not sure if it has appeared anywhere else). Basically the humans sent out their original warships that were from the last war against the Buggers and the newer warships effectively caught up to them as the world produced newer fasted ships.

There is a tabletop wargame(North Africa, iirc) so complex, it takes thousands of hours to play a single game. Even its creators havent finished a full game. Like, it is so detailed that the italians consume more water, because they need it to cook pasta. Bring that for a 12 year trip.

In the OG Guardians of the Galaxy comics that was the origin of one of the characters. They went into this cryo sleep pod for a 1000 years, told that FTL travel would be impossible and most travel predictions suggested humans could go faster in terms of the future but probably wouldn't catch up with him... And when he woke up he had weird cosmic powers and he was greeted to a fucking party by a bunch of people XP

btw at 16:25 what Duncan is talking about has been done a little, the main example I can think of is the song Space is Dark. Its about a colony ship that goes into cryo sleep and wake up after humanity has discovered ftl travel shortly after they left. Its a kinda solemn song but still pretty good.

There is a book series called EPIC where a colony ship to another planet keeps the colonists brains active while they are in cryosleep with an MMO. They travel for so long that they make the MMO part of their everyday life. Currency is what you can farm in the game, justice is handeled in the Arena. Major criminals are banished from the game for life and forced to work in real life... cause the planet they landed on truly does suck.
