Yes, Diamond can in fact burn, they are after all just carbon, the same stuff as coal, i'm pretty sure it requires alot of heat to ignite them however.

False. Diamonds have quite a lower melting point than that. And Tungsten has a higher melting point. We can melt tungsten, but we don't have anything with a high enough melting point to hold the molten tungsten.

All you need is an excess of oxygen to burn diamonds at normal temperatures, i've seen it myself, they heat up the diamonds with a butane torch then drop it in liquid oxygen. it burns brightly and completely.

Diamonds actually CAN burn in fire.. it just has to be a very HOT fire. I've seen videos of someone taking a welding torch to a diamond until it started burning, then chucked it in water, where it ZOOMED ABOUT, STILL BURNING until it was gone.

yep for a chemical reaction it simply needs a starting power source and the heat acts as one causing the carbon to react to the oxygen in the water and release CO2 and H2 or in other words carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas :)

FYI, diamonds can indeed burn; however it just be done by either a really really hot fire! (Volcano temp) or an intensified laser which can even be used to "shape" a diamond. :3 (I also heard the idc comment from Simon, but I'm going to pretend I never heard it so I can wow you all with my knowledge of burning stuff!) :)

Technically Diamond is a less stable form of carbon than graphite (which is the most stable) so if you put enough energy in to surmount the activation energy, a diamond will burn, but not in just a normal fire.

Diamonds can't burn in normal fire. Diamonds have an extremely high melting point because of the extremely strong bonds between the atom bonds. It requires immense heat and energy to break these bonds, if the heat is sufficient the bonds will break thus it will start to melt.
