I actually grew to like Illagers after I caught one in a boat and Harrmen lived outside my window for nearly a year. When I finally got around to making an Iron farm he hopped right in the Minecart as if he knew just what I needed. I even put a sign underneath that read "Harrmen's Iron Farm" because he was the one running it.😊

Acording to the Rise of the Arch-Illager, the villagers who inhabit villages as we know them are a "peaceful people who know better than violence", however, "the world is sometimes not as kind, so that's where the golems come in". While it would be cool to have humanoid friendly soldiers, adding villager soldiers would be a contradiction to the lore, and defeat the very notion of "villager".

Personally, my favorite part of the Illagers is that they’re allies with hostile mobs, which may show that unlike the regular Villagers, when they worked together in Legends, they never really stopped their alliance, which is something pretty cool. Mages are the mainland counterpart of the Iceologer. Instead of lifting chunks of ice and smashing them against their targets, they lift their very own targets and smash them against the ground, which is pretty much the same ability but the other way around. There's also the Mystic who wore brown robes in the same style as the Mage and Iceologer, but it was scrapped.

0:45 This is definitely just a joke I’m reading too much into but it aligns strongly to my theory of what Illagers are. Ever since vexes were retextured to look like Allays, I’ve maintained that Illagers are just Villagers with some kind of curse or infection that made them gray and agressive, and were exiled from the village. This would explain why they hunt villagers (for revenge) AND why there are Allays in mansions and outposts- Vexes are Allays that are modified by whatever curse or infection that made the Illagers gray and aggressive. Just found it funny that Mojang made a “Illager is just a sick villager” joke when that’s my theory for what happened. This was challenged by Minecraft Legends, but that game is ambiguous on whether the events therein actually happened or are just a story, so for all we know it could be fiction the villagers use to cover up what really happened to create the Illagers.

The Woodland Mansion definitely needs a ton of buffs like new illagers and items. Ever since 1.14's addition of raids and totems of undying no longer being exclusive to the mansions, there was no reason to go to one. Now, the only reason to go is for an armor trim template. Something interesting to consider for anyone who likes to build off of quasi-lore: The illagers having the apparently maleable concept of a "bad thing happening" in bottled form means they have some level of insight into the meta layer of the world and the knowledge to magically affect it. At least that's how I like to interpret the fact that the thing that can make trial spawners go into overdrive can also initiate a full scale raid out of thin air - the illagers have figured out that they are narratively the bad guys and are using it to paracausally create armies for their raids.

@@conorprendergast9876 That used to be the case until the bad omen effect was turned into a potion that the pillager captain drops rather than being an effect instantly applied to you for killing one. And like I said, the fact that this same bad omen effect can now trigger something completely separate from an illager raid means it's a much more generalized concept that they've managed to figure out how to obtain in a storable form and actively use to bolster their attacking power. Plus, I just like concept magic like that, where an entity within the narrative is able to at least partially manipulate and interact with certain narrative elements on the meta level. Like in this case the illagers having and exploiting a definitive answer to the question "who are the bad guys?" It's Minecraft-typical quasi-lore, so everything is up to interpretation and full of gaps for you to fill yourself, but this is the way it works best for me.

Outpost is the main tower structure and the other minor structures that can form at an outpost like target range, allay cage, iron golem cage, and the tent.

I hope that the Illager’s get more structures in the future, like encampments sense they’ve been known to be wondering around in patrols it would make sense for them to have camps Another could be a mine where they get their resources or a factory where they refine them! Perhaps an expansion with the woodland mansion, make it more sophisticated like research labs or experimentation prison cells. Perhaps make it more developed by making it fancy (I guess) or more decorated by adding more Illager banners in and around it. Maybe add Illager structures in both the Nether and End as expeditionary garrisons that draws conflict with the Piglins or nether mobs, maybe a ruined expedition encampment in the end because of the Ender dragon. Perhaps add medieval cannons into their arsenal to make them appear to be advancing

@ well it would be great if they applied it to Minecraft itself as well as expand on what’s there or add more presence other than random patrols and the occasional outpost 😅 Perhaps give them a more militaristic presence and give them expeditions (even ruined ones) in the nether sense the nether is easier to get to than the end

I love how terrifying the Illagers appear to be in the actual Games to other mobs, with the creaking fearing them too. Conquerers with nothing to fear. Except Wardens. Apparently Ancient Cities were the one place even they cant touch.
