That chart is epic, not because of what it states, but because you have a viewer who is so involved and clearly enjoys these streams enough to do what they can to be a part of it. Much respect

Lewis, Ben, here is how reaction stat works: It's the *percentage of time units* remaining *multiplied by* reaction = *Your current reaction*. so if you have 50/200 time units and 100 reaction, your reaction will be 25 (although it won't show) this all applies to aliens, and whoever had more reactions gets gauranteed not shot at/gets to shoot
@sol2544
@sol2544 8 жыл бұрын
also, someone will keep on reaction shooting for eternity either until they have no more ammo, their reaction is lower than the other guy (from losing TUs) or they don't have enough TUs left to shoot

"I once got a swarming mission with 38 aliens before..." "You're gonna need a lot of guys, but I have seen people make some incredible plays before...." Fast Forward to the X-Com Files playthrough when Ben takes on 72 enemies with just 8 soldiers and fucking power-moves it to the finish with the last remaining guy.

Lieu is french for area and tenant for holder/holding, and lieutenants at a time were responsible for holding battle lines allocated to them or taking the place of the superior when they were needed elsewhere. Lef was "old french" in written form for "lew" sound and since their Fs were pronounced as Ws.. anyone who wasn't familiar with that quirk would've pronounced the F the way logical to them.

2:49:30 it has already been invented a decade ago, strapping electrodes to your head and using the variations in the magnetic field to judge wether or not a person is thinking "UP, DOWN" etc, to then match said EM pattern in the computer with a command to move the mouse down or up. More accurate and usable in modern days, but still not as quick and flawless as is required for "real" applications for everyday use or gaming. But one awesome thing somewhat related is the thing that tracks your eyes, so you just look at something in a strategy game and it'll pan the camera and zoom in there without any other input. Awesome stuff

Baleur Nah. If I stare at the corner f the screen it does not mean I want to move camera that direction. While on the surface this does sound awesome, so did the Kinect, and we all know how little of a gimmick it actually turned out to be. Thought controls are probably the same, unless they invent the whole new command set, which in turn would require great deal of cognition discipline.

Their tactics are fine, they just don't know The Solution: Sonic pulsers. You can reliably research them for your first terror mission, they're in plentiful supply, they're powerful, and because your human weapons are so puny, you actually need them (unlike in X-Com where rifles and laser pistols are just fine for fighting floaters). Your first terror mission's first turn should be spent waiting in the Triton priming grenades and letting the aliens get distracted, the second turn should be total explosive carnage.

I love that they are still complaining about their soldiers not autofiring on overwatch. Soldiers on TFTD can ONLY fire on overwatch IF: a) reactions are high enough b YOU HAVE LEFT ENOUGH TIME UNITS TO DO SO! Which is essentially what is not being done, they use up all the time units moving or firing, and then moan when these soldiers have an alien to the face and can do nothing about it. (sighs)

If "inclusiveness" ruins a story, isn't it more likely that it's because the writer(s) is just... not actually that good? Like, maybe they're just incapable of writing a character who isn't a total reflection of themselves, the "default" straight white male? If that's the characters you need to write for the story, then fine, but I'm just saying, don't be surprised if everyone gets suspicious if you never write anything else, which has basically been the history of most media in the west. Nerds are still losing their shit over Ghostbusters, but Hollywood has been lousy with reboots and remakes over the past decade or so. Many of them have done far, far worse than the Ghostbusters remake (Robocop, Total Recall, etc) but those were all forgotten. I can't possibly imagine what the difference might be.
@expressionamidstcacophony390
@expressionamidstcacophony390 8 жыл бұрын
The difference is that Ghostbusters successfully used a shrewd marketing to stir up a flame war for cheap publicity. Several of the youtube personalities who criticized the trailers suggested ways that the movie could have done a gender flip WELL, so it's abundantly clear that gender is not the problem. Nevertheless, gender hipsters are still digging up and beating that dead horse in the vain hope of spinning a political fairy tale that it's all about gender. "Inclusiveness" (that is, identity politics) is a gimmick. CHILDREN like to see characters with their name, their skin color, their hobby, their gender et cetera. To suggest that adults in aggregate can't look past that is degrading and xenophobic. Inclusive stories tend to have bad writing because amateurs imagine they can redeem bad writing by slapping "GAY" on things, and writers who partially succeed are chased off by capricious zealots inventing new reasons to cry foul. Please spend the next several years lecturing Asians on how horrible they are for making stories disproportionately about Asian people based on Asian culture and Asian history. The West has had more than its fair share of the flogging, so the East rightly deserves a turn. Surely you won't protest fairness for the sake of singling out white people and treating them badly.
@theworstbird
@theworstbird 8 жыл бұрын
Asia has it's own issues with racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, but I don't live in Asia, I'm not adequately familiar with the various Asian cultures, and Asia isn't the subject of this discussion. Just because someone else has issues doesn't mean you can't address your own issues. Besides, Asia has way more white male leads in their films than Hollywood has Asian leads. Also, there are way more non-white people living in America than there are non-Asian people throughout Asia. Otherwise, you speak like someone who has always seen representation in media. Even if it was just for children, doesn't that still make representation important? And what about all of the non-white, non-straight actors who rarely get decent roles because using straight white male characters instead is considered safer? There's little to no backlash when existing non-white people or characters are turned white for movies (the best actors for the job I'm ever so sure), but the second someone suggests that, for instance, Idris Elba would be a cool James Bond, Bond's whiteness becomes an integral part of his character for some reason and it would be racist to change it? People like you weren't the ones complaining when the Stonewall movie was re-written so that the story was about a gay white man (played by a straight actor) instead of the black transgender woman who actually started the movement. Besides, if "adults in aggregate" can so easily look past differences in race, gender, orientation, etc, then why do these issues keep coming up? Why does Hollywood so consistently keep casting white leads when there are plenty of non-white actors who are just as capable? Why do people lose their minds when a white character is represented as non-white? Why does every movie or show with a non-white majority cast attract so much controversy regardless of its content? I'm an adult. I'm white. Representation is pretty easy for me. I'm gay, but my favorite authors include Frank Herbert and Orson Scott Card, both notably anti-gay. But that doesn't mean that encountering well-written, pro-active gay characters in books or movies - even if they're tiny side-characters, even if it's just hinted - doesn't lift my spirits a little.

"I would be less disgusted if you slung racial slurs." I'm sowwy, did I hurt your feelings? I know, it's hard out here for a white conservative brony. But of course we're the sensitive ones. You seriously used lesbian pornography as an example? You think people watch porn to relate to the characters involved? And again, you keep bringing up issues unrelated to the topic at hand as if I have to address every problem in the world simultaneously or just give up. The movies you've listed (as if white female leads are revolutionary) as being memorable are memorable because they were well-made movies, or they covered controversial topics, or - shock, horror - they were REPRESENTATIONAL of groups that are/were UNDER-REPRESENTED in film, with STORIES that HADN'T BEEN TOLD A HUNDRED TIMES BEFORE. If representation matters so little, then why isn't there an equivalent market for Bollywood or Korean or Chinese or African films among white movie-watchers, instead of having just one or two breakouts every few years, if that? If it really doesn't matter what the actor's race, religion, gender, or sexuality is, then why don't people pour as much vitriol into generically bad movies as they do into movies that supposedly "push inclusiveness," or whatever the argument is? In short: Why do you get so triggered over representation?

>" I'm sowwy, did I hurt your feelings? I know, it's hard out here for a white conservative brony. But of course we're the sensitive ones." No, I didn't say my feelings were hurt, because they aren't. I said I was disgusted by your supreme ignorance, and I am. Now, would you care to defend the position you have taken, or are you satisfied with making wild and irrelevant guesses about my politics and hobbies in a fit of passive aggression? Is that the pinnacle of intelligence that social justice can muster? > You seriously used lesbian pornography as an example? You think people watch porn to relate to the characters involved? If they don't, then there must be some enjoyment people get out of media which is so powerful that it invalidates any need for people to see their race/gender/whatever "represented", which is quite a compelling piece of evidence in support of the idea that adults in aggregate can look past race/gender/whatever. This, you may remember, was my claim. I used lesbian pornography as an example because it demonstrates exactly what I wanted it to demonstrate. >"And again, you keep bringing up issues unrelated to the topic at hand as if I have to address every problem in the world simultaneously or just give up." No, that's not even close to true. The issues I've brought up are flawless examples of the topic at hand. I've argued that if you choose to punish these behaviors when white people do it, and excuse/ignore these behaviors when yellow people do it, then it's fair to suggest that you are discriminating on the basis of race. Further, if you continue to punish white people for these behaviors when white people are already receiving the disproportionate majority of punishment, then we can conclude that you are not in fact motivated by a desire for social justice, or any other kind of justice, and are merely using that pretense to be hateful toward whites for some bizarre reason. You have presented absolutely nothing to challenge or contradict this position in any way, and merely attempt to handwave the issue through a strawman. > "The movies you've listed (as if white female leads are revolutionary) as being memorable are memorable because they were well-made movies, or they covered controversial topics, or - shock, horror - they were REPRESENTATIONAL of groups that are/were UNDER-REPRESENTED in film, with STORIES that HADN'T BEEN TOLD A HUNDRED TIMES BEFORE." Ah, but none of those things are "representation" in and of themselves. To say that a movie was liked for ANY reason despite not directly "representing" the race/gender/orientation of the average audience member instrinsically demonstrates that people can look past race/gender/orientation, at the very least through the mechanism of any reason you give. In other words, you're supporting my position and attacking your own. >"If representation matters so little, then why isn't there an equivalent market for Bollywood or Korean or Chinese or African films among white movie-watchers, instead of having just one or two breakouts every few years, if that? If it really doesn't matter what the actor's race, religion, gender, or sexuality is, then why don't people pour as much vitriol into generically bad movies as they do into movies that supposedly "push inclusiveness," or whatever the argument is?" 'If God didn't make the trees, then how did they get there?' I guess we can have another round if you want. If Korean, Chinese and African films rarely score big among white Americans because of racial "representation", then why do French, Scandinavian and Russian films rarely score big among white Americans? If race, religion, gender or sexuality are the causes of backlash against 'social justice' movies, why isn't EVERY movie featuring Melissa McCarthy or Kate McKinnon (for example) subject to the same backlash? Did they get sex changes for their appearance in Ghostbusters? >"In short: Why do you get so triggered over representation?" Nobody I've ever talked to about "representation" has been able to demonstrate to me that it's anything other than propaganda. I reserve the right to challenge propaganda, and occasionally I do. This was one of those times.

"I don't even know how to describe what an insulting, dehumanizing, reactionary, supremely ignorant speculation that is." Sure mate. Do you even have a worthwhile position, or are you just being contrarian for the sake of feeling superior? How the fuck am I punishing white people by saying that it would be nice if we got some more non-white stories? What kind of fucking nonsense victim complex is that? Get a grip on your fragile ego. I'm not attacking my own position, my own original position was simply and completely "representation is great when done well." But just keep moving the goalpost, it makes you look super great, I promise. Straight, white, cisgender, able-bodied white characters cannot, by very definition, encompass the totality of the human experience, or the western experience, or even just the straight white experience. A diversity of characters leads to a diversity of stories, a diversity of viewpoints. That's what representation IS you ignorant mouthbreather. We as a culture, as a species, are diminished by homogeneity, and media absolutely affects our perception of ourselves and others. That's propaganda you fuckwit. There is historical precedence and scientific research to support what I'm saying, but I'm not going to fucking spoonfeed you because it's not my responsibility to make you a less shitty person. I'm bored of you, so take your weak-ass meme arrows and regurgitated reddit circlejerking and watch your lesbian porn or whatever.

*Calling it right now, they act run in guns blazing and get everyone killed, again.* I don’t know if it was Apocalypse, Piratez, or some combination of the two; it feels like these two have completely forgotten how to play xcom. At this rate we will never see an actual playthough, on top of that if it’s going poorly you’ll abandon the save! You guys need either longer sessions, or more days to play.
