Joy, great video as usual! I have a Model S as my daily driver and my wife has a Model Y that I drive from time to time, so I've been able to compare yoke vs round wheel directly. Once I learned the proper technique for the yoke, I found it to be a significant improvement -- in fact, it is a relief to go back to the yoke after driving with the round wheel. The yoke gives me one thing thing the round wheel cannot, which is a lever arm. Maneuvers like U-turns & 3-point turns are a delight with the superior arm-over-arm action of yoke, plus for sudden avoidance maneuvers the yoke is way better (e.g. avoiding car backing out of a driveway without looking). Yes, if one uses the yoke with the technique of a round wheel it will be frustrating, but isn't that a bit like playing tennis with a squash technique. Remember the comments naysayers made when Apple first introduced the iPhone?: "People need to feel the click of the button", "If I want an app, I'll just go to my computer", "Why would someone hold a sandwich up to their face to make a call?".

Great video Joy! As a huge yoke fan myself, your guest did a great job describing the quick appreciation someone can have after driving with one. Really grows on you! We have a trip coming up with a rental Tesla (non-yoke) and I’m already thinking about how I wish it had a yoke. 😆

Haha! Thanks Kim! I was so surprised I would really love the yoke over the round steering wheel.

I think it's a simple case of doing the first full 180 degrees with one hand, then you can hand over. And the neutral position is slightly more visually obvious. I think it can work. Especially with a display in the steering wheel face.
@LaJuanHughes Жыл бұрын
It will take a few days and you will get used to it. If you adjust it right. On the freeway it all in your wrist when moving the wheel.

Interesting. I have a 2018 Model 3, but I may demo drive an S or X with the yoke to feel the difference. You've made a convincing argument.

I’ve had a yoke on my MYP for about a year. Much easier to drive. Love it.

Great video, Joy! At 8:17 is what I love about my yoke the most. I try not to do hand-over-hand and convert my muscle memory to using one finger when turning and holding the turn with the other hand if needed depending on the way I am turning. I feel those grooves were made for thumbs! Edit: At 8:39, that is how I do my turns...with one finger. The groove just floats around my finger in the turn.

Thank Joy. I can’t do the yoke thing.

The driver in this video gets it. Yoke, regen braking, it’s all muscle memory.

I’ve installed them in my M3 and there is no more body roll and significantly improved handling, vehicle feel so much more planted like a S taking off…!!! I’m not kidding you & you’ll be wondering why didn’t I get it earlier. 😛

I got my yoke 10/21 to see how it was before I got my cyber truck and I will always have a yoke. And my wife also has a yoke.

I can see the yolk but seems like getting rid of the stalks and having to find a little button for the Horn is a bad idea. Would like to see Joy do a video on that.

Insightful video, thanks for posting this. I wanted to ask, how is the white (nappa?) leather holding up? I'm wondering of stain, color transfer.

I don’t think I will get the yoke for my 2021 Model X I will just keep the original if I had a horizontal screen instead of vertical I would consider changing it.

how does it deal with heated steering wheel? Does that still work? Also is there any safety downside with the airbag now?
@TeslaJoy Жыл бұрын
Yes there’s a connector to heated steering wheel which I had to cut off because mine doesn’t have that feature. No downside to airbag as it’s not touched.

Yes and no. You can watch the installation video I did last month for details.

It looks good, but the + you made, like resting place for thumb and the better for not triggering the "not touching the wheel" thing has nothing to do with the Yoke but more of the design of the old wheel. My car has those places for the thumb to rest and it's round, some wheel have the detection of presence by capacitive touch and not resistance at turning and problem is solve too. Some wheel have a more square design. So it's more about Yoke or not but the plus you gave are not linked to the Yoke itself.

Just like with anything, it’s a matter of getting used to it. Looks good on the Joymobile and matches the seats! How are the seats holding up? Easy to clean? Please consider doing a six-month review etc. As usual you look so gorgeous ❤❤

Call me old school but, half a wheel can never be practical to use as a full steeling wheel.
@TeslaJoy Жыл бұрын
Like I said in video, you just have to get used to it to retrain yourself. Yoke is so much easier to use than round steering wheel.
@bhbae13 ай бұрын
@TeslaJoy how is it easy?
@thepurplemaskknows9383 Жыл бұрын
Do skeptics stop to think that the makers of the safest car in the world just thoughtlessly sawed off half the steering wheel with no testing or thought? Does anybody believe that the company would purposely compromise safety?
@TeslaJoy Жыл бұрын
Has nothing to do with Tesla but what people are used to like I said in the video.
