Yokomo Super Dog Fighter 870c Shakedown Run ヨコモ スーパードッグファイター

Here's my shakedown run of the newly released Yokomo 870c "Super Dog Fighter. I had planned to do a follow up video, but in all honesty I spent the majority of my winter vacation filming, editing and doing all kinds of work on the computer related to this channel/social media. And to be perfectly honest, I need a little break and some family time. Hope you understand!
So, I've included a couple of points at the end of the video. I'll also add them here:
As you'd expect, the 870c drives really well. It's super smooth and quiet. You can tell the drivetrain is very efficient as it is noticeably quicker than all my other buggies using 23T Tamiya Super stock motors.
The kit shocks feel a little on the firm side for my tastes and you can see the back end get kicked up in a couple of shots/ But overall it drove, cornered and jumped quite well.
Now the not so good.
first, the rear wheels rub on the plastic rod ends of the upper arms. I noticed this when I finished building, but didn't think it would be a problem in use. However after a battery pack the ball adjusters had a noticeable groove worn into them. Not a big issue, as I added a couple of shims to improve clearance. As of writing no word from Yokomo on when (or even if!) spares will be available. And while getting replacement rod ends/adjusters is an easy task, finding white ones isn't!
Secondly, the servo saver adjustment nut worked loose during running, though this is my fault for not tightening it enough. The instructions aren't clear when setting it up.
Third, the body and under tray are a snug fit as is, and in the new manual no mention is made of using velcro to mount the body. I don't have an original 870c/YZ10 to compare, but this new one looks like it is not designed to be used with velcro. You could fit some, but the width of the velcro would force the body to bend outwards to fit over the under tray, possibly creating gaps. As is, they fit tightly on top of each other. But even so, after running there were several small leaves, twigs and gravel in th the chassis, along with a ton of dust. My point being that this design is better suited to hard packed dirt, clay or similar. Fine, loose dirt, sand and gravel are just asking for things to jam up the belt and pulleys...
And finally the rear wing is flimsy and easily torn. Mine already has a tear following a moment where the 870c and Go Pro both decided they wanted to occupy the same space and the same time. I will probably replace the wing with something more substantial at a later date.
But overall very pleased with the 870c.

Me too! 😁 Mid winter with leaves on the ground make for some great footage. Many of my older videos are shot in the same location/time of year for a similar effect.

Thanks! I prefer simpler color schemes, though in retrospect I would have liked to add a few more details to the vents and cockpit area. Overall, pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Such a great video, looks like a great day out with the rc, but I nearly gasped at some of those landings. Please tell me you softened the springs and put thicker oil in the shocks!

Likewise! I didn't have any suitable springs available and as it was the end of the year and most model shops were closed, I went with the kit setup to begin with. But it is a little too firm and I will make adjustments for the Yokomo Vintage Meet next month. To be fair though, the spot on the grass where the 870c bounces up and nearly rolls upsets the suspension and catches most of my vintage buggies out. I've had similar things happen with my Egress, Terra Scorcher, Javelin, Optima, Mid etc. The Nova Fox even did a full forward flip in mid air! 😁

The kit dampers are a little on the firm side and it definitely needs tuning. But saying that, nose diving was partly my fault as I lifted off the throttle and that brought the front down.

Yeah, they are definitely on the firm side. I went with the #300 oil, but they also included #400 oil, but only one set of springs. Good luck with the build! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else is going to do with their 870c's!
