@AlonsoDalton5 жыл бұрын
While I haven't finished the first Yomawari game, there's one thing about it I wanted to touch on. Or rather, about the game's advertising. During the game's development, and leading up to its release, the story was always stated as "Your dog runs away during a walk just before sundown. Your sister goes to look for it, but doesn't return by night time. It's up to you to go and find them both." This connects back to the part in the tutorial you showed where the dog is hit by the truck. If you had followed the news for the game leading up to the game's release, upon playing it, not only did the tutorial lull you into a sense of comfort, but the expectations of what the story would be did so as well. I was just left sitting in bed with my Vita, wondering what the HELL has just happened. They had the restraint to hold back on what REALLY happened during the tutorial, all so the impact of what does actually happen would have an even greater effect, and that's something I REALLY liked about it.
@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective5 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely spot on. What's also interesting is the games teaser trailer which released in JPN about a year before release. It was a first person trailer of a Japanese girl running through a forest and turning on the flash light saying "Sis, is that you?". Made me think we were getting a first person horror on the Vita and was the first game that really made me want to buy one and even though the game wasn't that I can't say I regret that for a second.

One of my friends owns a copy of Midnight Shadows on the PS4 and at some point, we all started hanging out in her house and taking turns exploring and fighting the bosses. I remember that this all started because at some point my friend asked us to help her beat one of the boss battles (ie, the boss battle with the Scissorman hand ghost and the artifacts) and then we just kept helping her with the rest of the game ever since. I was actually the one who defeated asshole pillar boss and started up on the giant black spaghetti monster boss before rage-quitting because of how frustrating it was. XD I also remember my friend not being okay at the end with the whole tutorial and Haru thing and having to explain it to us because we hadn't seen the beginning of the game. And holy shit, that final hand spider boss was terrifying in my opinion, and I thought the game mechanic for defeating that boss was really cool and tied in really well to the whole tutorial thing that happened just before with Haru. I also remember that we had slightly spoiled ourselves in regards to the fact that Haru wasn't going to walk away completely unscathed, so when we picked up the red scissor item and read the description, we just started screaming in realization. It was a nice bit of foreshadowing on the developer's part. Those continuous game sessions ended with my friend being in denial over Yui and refusing to let her go in the end. We literally had to pin her to the couch and rip the controller away from her while she sobbed in denial just so we could get the game to end and give Yui and Haru the happy ending they deserved. All in all, I'm really glad I played this game with my friends, and I think we wouldn't have enjoyed ourselves as much if we had played Night Alone and not Midnight Shadows, since it was the story and the boss battles that really kept us going and made us want to see the end.

Yomawari is amazing. And the second game is a near masterpiece. And the reason the second one takes control away from you a lot, is because that is the core of the story. Control and giving up. From the beginning of the sequel. And it is even more evident when you get the true ending where you reject control. It's an amazing way to tell a story through gameplay alone. Hopefully more people will get this game now on the switch. *FOR PEOPLE WHO SAW THE SPOILERS* It's not meta. The tutorial is LITERALLY being given to you by the final boss. You are literally being controlled. That's a fantastic way to tell a story through gameplay

Hi Nitro! I love your video since first time I come across the Siren review and later I found out you got a very nice taste of indie, old school classic and something doesn't easily mention by somebody outside of Asia THAT keeping me coming back for more content (and sorry for the thing that I still don't have the ability to support Patrone right now) Especially the horror genre from japan I wonder if you got interesting in fatal frame/project zero series With good mechanic, stories and challenge and the plot. just got me easily as heck Or the game detention(2017) form my country Taiwan, a horror click adventure games based on some real incident long time ago in the city I lived most of my life. Good plot with some historical value It should be a nice experiences i think! After all, Thank you for always bringing quality video that make my day And hope you have a nice day :)

I love NIS America, almost everything that they‘re involved is worth to at least check it out
@jackmesrel49336 жыл бұрын
Not really, but they make a lot of different anime type games, especially dungeon rpgs Well, not "make" but fund, like EA minus the cuntiness Basically, if you like the japanese culture or anime things you will like them

If you enjoyed this game, you might enjoy Mad Rat Dead- It's a game released last year by the same director as this game, actually! It probably isn't necessarily your kind of thing, being a rhythm-platformer. The story is quite good, though! Not perfect, of course, but still pretty decent in my opinion. If there's anything you could say about it, it's that it's charming. Certainly a lot different from Yomawari, but it's still a fascinating and experimental game from NIS. Just a little recommendation! Anyway, I loved the video! Very well put together as always!

As someone who is both a huge fan (since day 1) of Yume Nikki, and of Fromsoftware games, and horror games in general. Yomawari is actually literally perfect Though there are flaws for sure, the combination of gorgeous isometric spritework, Nikki-style nighttime surreal exploration with Dark Souls style checkpointing, and even the yokai/yurei having a cute but still spooky aesthetic, with the best sound design ever, its a niche product for niche people, for sure but for that niche there is literally nothing else like it!

Thank you so much for reviewing these games! I played Midnight Shadows on my own channel and I loved it. Just started playing Night Alone and the beginning shocked the hell out of me. Can't wait to play the rest of it.

Before i knew it this became my favourite gaming channel. You really made a lot of good points about horror in general here, not to mention that Rule of Rose music, really makes me feel at home here.

Hey Nitro rad, I recommend Bioshock the collection for a review. It seems like the kind of game you would like!

I have no clue why but the first game reminds me of this manga called Mieruko chan, it's about this girl who can see these really freaky apparitions and ghosts that are freaky to look at and she has to act like she can't see them as to not draw attention

Actually in the second game the mountains where Yui committed suicide is explained to be a place where voices of spirits draw people to commit suicide. So in other words the tutorial text is actually a spirit trying to drive you to commit suicide.
