Sorry, but no. Those are not the knots the Yonex string team uses. What was used in this video is just a double half-hitch, which is basically a beginner knot. Yonex calls for a "Parnell" or "Pro" knot. It's an old channel, but these are probably the best stringing videos on KZbin: kzbin.info

The way Yonex want you to do it is what ATP guideline to string the racket. Stringers stringing inATP tour and grandslams are all using this technique else its not qualify to string for them. This is what i was told. I am a stringer too. Since then, I have been using this method to string the racket to do it so called the right technique. Of course there is many ways of doing it all depend on individuals. But most important is every racket you string has to use the same technique to maintain consistency for every racket.Thanks for the video.

So good news is I can do away with the starting knot that always comes out different every time and takes longer. Releasing the base first is a new one for me so I will start doing that. Having the racket face the same way every time is also new and a good way to have a consistent starting point. I dig that. I do skip string ahead on the crosses but I did not' know why I should do it. I assumed it was for speed. I am a home stringer and thanks for these tips!

Buy yourself a tabletop drop-weight stringing machine. You can get one for around $300. Best investment ever, and pays for itself after 8-10 restringings-then all savings from there. I string in front of the tv with mine, or while listening to music. It’s relaxing, saves money, and I don’t have to drive to and from the tennis shop and wait for a multi day turnaround period.

Hi, I just saw this video and I hope you can help me answer this question. This was really well done. And I see the logic in everything. However, I don't have a constant pull electronic machine. But rather a simple hand crank machine. My question is: How do I straighten my crosses if I am using a hand crank machine? Currently, and I hope this isn't blasphemy, I pull my crosses in order to straighten out my crosses. Here is my work flow: 1st pull -> hand straighten the cross as much as I can -> release -> 2nd pull to take away the slack from the straightening. Thanks! Appreciate your content! :)
@imateapot51
@imateapot51 3 жыл бұрын
Since nobody answered I will. I have a crank, a wise tensioner for the crank if I want, and an overpriced electric. When I do the constant pull it is easy to straighten the crosses as it is being tensioned - with two hands. When I do the crank I straighten them after it locks out. One more reason crank will have less dynamic tension then a constant pull at the same reference tension. The USRSA take on crank vs constant pull is just account for the 5 or 10 percent difference in tension, and don't worry about it. Just straighten the crosses after lockout and again when you are done. No need to pull twice just because you have a crank, and double the time it takes to string the crosses.

Thanks for the video. I string my own rackets and I also do them for friends. Here's a few points that I noticed in your technique. First, I use a similar approach to starting the mains as you do when starting the crosses. That is, I loop the string around the center of racket so that two equal ends remain at the top or bottom of racket. Then I put a starting clamp to one side while pulling full tension to the other. Then I proceed to tension 3 strings away from the starting clamp. After which, I pull the starting clamp end and tension that side and so on. I tried many if not all of the methods. This is the simplest. Your method of double clamping will leave visible marring from the starting clamp on a center main for poly strings. My method puts the marring around the edge of the racket which is less visible. Second, when I tie off the last end of the crosses, I pull off the starting clamp before I clamp and release tension. If you leave the starting clamp on while clamping on the string, the overall tension is changed due to the additional weight of the starting clamp. Finally, like you, I double knot my ends since the double knot minimizes the slack. I have discovered this through experimentation however, your method of knotting the first knot does not minimize slack because you don't start by pulling away from the racket first. You pull towards you and this will keep the slack in tact.

at 4:00 you start by clamping one string, then doubling up with a with a starting clamp, then pulling tension. i've always tensioned both mains together and then clamped off both mains without any starting clamp. much easier and faster unless there is some reason pulling both mains together affects tension. i use a lockout stringer. not sure if a constant pull electronic stringer can pull two strings together.

When pulling your knot tension on your mains I noticed you only hit the knot feature once. Does that not mean that you only added the extra 10% on the first knot string and not the second. I have 2 Baiardos and the knot feature only stays on for one pull. Am I missing something? Also. you mention at the end how straight the strings are, and how other stringers use a setting off awl, but with this technique you do not have too. At 19:36 in the video you can see that the mains are not straight thus the reason some of us use the awl. Are you suggesting that we leave the mains curving into the center of the racquet?
@TennisSpin
@TennisSpin 4 жыл бұрын
About the knot feature, you are right. For the sake of time I skipped showing you the knot button again. About the crosses not being straight, I looked at the part you are talking about and it does look curved. I never did straighten out the crosses so it must of been the angle with the video. I never want to straighten my strings at the end cause this will mean a lost of tension. So, I straighten as I go when tension is being applied to each cross. Been stringing for over 30 years and I am still learning and trying to always be better. Thanks for watching.

Would you -Tie off on the main instead. - Enlarge the cross grommet - Route the string to a bottom cross to tie off? Not sure if there are any other options.

@ryancgw
@ryancgw Жыл бұрын
Some people might want to only restring the mains when the mains break, and this allows that to happen. However, only restring the mains or cross is not recommended as it could result in a large tension difference between mains and crosses, and void the racquet warranty. Also, to prevent the poly cross from damaging a natural gut main, the starting knot might have to be tied to the cross.

@RobsTennisVids 4 жыл бұрын
The most important thing is consistency (other than not damaging the frame or string). The "rainbow" is a natural occurrence if you don't straighten the crosses as you go. The reason we straighten them as we go, is because the strings will be looser if you do it after you've finished (a straight string is shorter than a curved string, so straightening them shortens them slightly, and results in slightly lower tension). If you're stringing for yourself, and you're happy with the results, no need to change.
