Really don't understand the hate for Yooka Laylee. It's easily one of my all time favs and it kills me there aren't more modern games like it.

It's fine. There's worse games, but definitely better ones too. It's true that the platformer genre has been sadly quite barren for a while though, looks like there's a gap in the market that needs filling. Even Mario hasn't been doing much with it lately..

I'm usually in disproval of remasters/ports and such that seems to be very prevalent nowadays. However, I'm excited for this game since I've always thought that if you're going to re-do a game, do so with a flawed game that had potential
@Faine21228 күн бұрын
I agree this is an exception, I never played the original Yooka Laylee because of how rushed it looked. Now i'll finally be able to experience it in a way that it was always intended to be experienced. Excited

Why be so negative
@trevorkeith38139 күн бұрын
I don't think they'll convince you from the sound of it. I'm on the fence because the controls were the biggest issue for me. I wasn't too fond of the tasks either but I didn't really play that much because it just wasn't fun to play. I'm hoping the controls are better so I can maybe give it another go but idk it depends on the pricepoint

You know, I’m already seeing negative reactions over how “unnecessary” Yooka-Replaylee seems to be. As someone who had just recently played the game for a 2nd time, I actually liked it. But in the state of the original, it felt WAY TOO rough. Which was rather bizarre because the masterminds behind Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 (and the original DK Country series as a whole) made this game, and yet the payoff didn’t really end well. Fast forward to the Switch version, while still rough, it’s still enjoyable… BUT! It needs a makeover. I was internally conflicted with how I wanted to think of this game. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I don’t see myself playing it again. Which is a shame because I wanted to love the game, but where it stands from this point in time and still no significant updates were made, the original Yooka-Laylee is left in an unpolished state… I didn’t even expect the game to be given an overhaul this soon. And there I was just about to give up hope of the game for having any chance at all to redeem itself. While we haven’t gotten any details as to how the game will turn out, but I pray all the flaws in the original are finally addressed. Kartos minecart at the Cashino, the minecart boss fight, the running minigame that if you’re too slow it’s game over, Capital B’s final fight, and the heinous combat… I want those fixed!

Just before they announced this remake I was actually replaying the first game, giving it the proper chance I never did before. I even went so far as to 100% it and I can officially say it was.. fine. Hell some of the issues I once had I realised weren't as bad as I initially thought, like the size of worlds for the most part weren't as big and confusing as I originally thought. The swamp and casino worlds still suck though. Usually I like to replay these sort of games every few years, mainly the Spyro trilogy, but Yooka-Laylee is not one of those collectathon games I would replay again. I did it once, and I'm good. But then they announced the remake and now I wonder "..should I?", because what little I've seen of it already improves over the original. However the weird rules they had for people showing off the demo makes things a little suspicious, something as basic as not being allowed to show the level's map is especially strange. Why even give out the game keys only to add arbitrary rules? Maybe it's nothing, but it makes me curious on what else they don't want us to see. I don't know about you, but I'm getting awfully tired of game companies and their secrets.

Wow your crazy, I completely understand not liking the game but to call it a rotten peace of trash, so are you saying the rare developers were also rotten garbage. Who made great games by mistake? Or do you secretly think banjo kazooie was trash ?

I was willing to listen and give the benefit of the doubt up until you said you didnt like the second game. Im not saying you had to like it. And im somebody who hated the first game for gameplay reasons, and loved the second one even tho it was a different style of game. I think it boils down to you just not liking the series as a whole. You dont like the art, music, character designs, levels or gameplay. And thats ok. It just feels weird to give a whole video to a series that you already know you genuinely dislike this much, just to say that you wont like the remake either.

1:10 I totally agree that Banjo Kazooie was an (accidental) master piece. Tho it was probably much less of an accident as most people might think I would say. Rare was at its prime, they took a whole additional year for polishing this game which they literally called "the Mario 64 killer". It was also the dream project of one of the stamper brothers. So yeah, no wonder it turned out the way it did.

3:05 I'm not too optimistic but I'm eagerly awaiting the reviews of Yooka Replaylee. My biggest beacon of hope is what the ceo of Playtonic said about revisiting the original game: He cringed, he felt embarrased and he even cried about many aspects of the game. Obviously, the creator is its own harshest critic. So maybe they reworked the oversized worlds and the sterile tasks to a significant degree.

I don't think Banjo-Kazooie being the best N64 game was a coincidence. Gregg Mayles designed the worlds in Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. The Banjo Team had to come in to help finish DK64 which was originally consisted a different team at Rare. Because of that, I think it heavily effected the development of Banjo-Tooie to the point Cauldron Keep had to be downscaled to make the holiday 2000 release date. The reason the worlds in Yooka-Laylee don't work nearly as well is Gregg Mayles wasn't in the picture for this game. Gavin Price was given the role of designing the worlds and in a recent Q&A, he expresses how the worlds could of been designed a lot better. The original game was rushed and was made by a much smaller team that was very rusty at making games, Playtonic has grown exponentially since. I find it really interesting how in the Yooka-Replaylee trailer they didn't show any of the main worlds, and the steam page says they are fixing and adding new Pagie Challenges which gives me some confidence that the game has been changed more then people may think.

Wow. These are peetty big words coming from yet another KZbinr sitting in front if a wall of games being overly critical. Let me ask you this man - what have you created besides opinionated videos watched by a handful of people? Yooka-Laylee obviously had its flaws there us no denying that. But i dont think you are doing yourself any favors by writing the game off as a "rotten piece of trash". Its clear they did work very hard making the first game even if they failed to execute in in the way you would have liked to see. I normally dont comment very much but the overwhelming negativity you exude here really reminds me of the huge influx of terrible KZbin critics that have one foot in the garbage can. Why sont you go try and make a game and see how well you do with it? See the incredible amount of effort and work that it takes to even make a decent demo let alone an entire game. It might put things into perspective for you so you dont come off as such an arrogant, petulant neckbeard.

Hey! I do appreciate your comment, despite the overwhelming negativity you exude. I didn't mean to offend you - I just shared my opinion on this game. I haven't created a video game but that doesn't mean that I can't share my opinion on them. Maybe the remake will change my mind - we'll wait and see.
@joelpeterson49975 ай бұрын
@@RonManGaming I agree, you do not have to have done something to have an opinion on it, and these things are based on taste. I just found the approach to be very insulting to the hard work of the team behind the game. It just came off as very harsh to a point of being unfair.
@watercrystals97443 ай бұрын
you're making an appeal to accomplish fallacy which discredits any attempt at the argument you're trying to make you don't need to be capable of making a game to be able to criticize one, otherwise using your own logic, you aren't allowed to be critical of anything you don't have experience doing yourself something having a lot of effort put into it doesn't mean that effort has value lol the fact is, YL was marketed as a spiritual successor to BK and nothing about it beyond the barebones premise of it being a collect-a-thon with an animal duo resembles the gameplay of BK

As a huge Rare fan having played all of their stuff, and a huge banjo fan- I had such high hopes for Yooka Laylee. The game had potential but it just felt like a ton of stuff thrown together in hopes to become something and failed. The characters are bland, it’s clunky, the worlds are enormously empty for no reason, as someone who’s beaten Yooka Laylee, I was really hoping to love it but Yooka Laylee just wasn’t it and it’s a shame.
