I learned everything I know about yooperlite hunting from Eric. Just returned to OH from a UP vacation with yooperlites from the size of a penny to a large apple. Two hunters, three hours, 60 YLs. We were in a little cove, maybe 50 feet wide and the waves were rough. I bought a couple 365 nm, filtered lights and a backup Harbor Freight $6 light. I couldn't see a yooperlite in my hand with the cheap light!!! Don't cheap out. Also - don't think you have to be on the east side of the UP. Finding a good beach is the tricky part. ***wear safety glasses. Those lights mess with your eyes!

That addiction warning should almost be even bigger. Before this year I had never gone rock hunting. I started looking for Yooperlites while up at my cabin in the western UP since there’s nothing else to do at night with the Corona having everything shut down. Long story short now I’ve gone hunting probably 30 times while up there and I have two rock tumblers running non stop in my garage full of only Yooperlites. I’ve already even started making Christmas presents with the polished rocks. These rocks are most definitely addicting!

Erik - 2:40 "Alright. You might be wondering where can you find Yooperlites". It would be great if you could list which glaciation events Yooperlites occur in and show a map somewhere (maybe on you're website) that depicts the extent of these glaciations. I understand that some of them may be covered by other glacial events that don't contain Yooperlites but it would give me a good general idea. I've seen the same thing done for Lake Superior agates. Was nice to meet you Erik. We found probably 10 stones between two different beaches despite other folks being there as well. It was a fun experience and are going to share our finds with the nephews and a some family members. We live closer to Lake Erie, so maybe we'll take them there or something whenever they visit. We used lighthouses as referende points in the places we were, so the glowstick for other areas is probably a good idea. Lots of folks on the beach asked us about the lights we had so we told them about your site. We noticed a very significant difference compared to what other folks were using. We found a lot of rocks though which were a dull blue and dull orange which we didn't think were yooperlite. The orange didn't glow as bright as the ones we knew were yooperlight. Also we ran into a problem with another type of orange rock rubbing sediment onto other rocks and we were able to wipe the orange glow off with our finger. We were using the C8 light and it lit up everything that was orange lol

Question. I've never even heard of Yooperlites until this week. I bought a jar of assorted stones at an antique store. I sat here admiring them while watching KZbin. After seeing someone else describe these I shined an LED light on it. From 2 to about 7 inches the stone sat there and looked pretty. When I put the light behind it, it lit up in all its hot lava glory. My question is "Is this a Yooperlite or something different?" It's been less than a week but I'm hooked now on rock hunting. Thanks in advance!
