Boar hunting was not for the faint of heart. An enraged or wounded animal would run up the spear that pierced it...which caused these spears to have a crossbar part way up the shaft. Quite an intelligent and fearsome adversary...but placid if left well enough alone. Personal badges reflected traits by people who were well acquainted with the animals surrounding them.

You do understand he had his nephews assassinated and their corpses bricked up in a wall right?

The silver boar badge in the BM looks like it held a pinned pearl in the centre, as i can see a round hole. Probaby the pin was held in by a interference fit. Here's my take on why he chose the boar, when he first went to Burgundy when he was young the Burgundy Dukes with their pomp and pageant introduced him to the knights order of St Anthony, being young he probably found it all quite exciting and it stuck with him.

After doing some research the Chiddlingly Boar was probably lost by a knight training there. There was probably a commandery or preceptory there maybe near the extinct great hall or the chapel there.
