They do everything so thoroughly in York, from the beautifully restored historic buildings to the market stalls, so well designed and built, you can clearly see it in the detail everywhere, it's no wonder York attracts thousands if not millions of tourists. Even the Christmas Tree is a real tree, not the usual boring artificial ones they put up in some cities. I grew up in York and emigrated to Australia in 1966 and I now realise that I should never have left. After about 50 years in Australia, it's time to go head home to my roots. Lovely to see the carousel in King's square. Thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable tour in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It would have been wonderful to see some footage of the Christmas lights during the evening.

It’s sad seeing the streets so empty, it’s about 4 years since we were last able to come at Christmas and everywhere was busy and bustling with people and atmosphere. I hope those days will return soon. When you were in the Shambles I didn’t see the tea and coffee shop? I think it was at one end, it sold all loose teas and coffees and had a wooden floor, it was like stepping back in time I love that shop, is it still there? The other shop I liked and I can’t for the life of me remember what street it’s on but I know it’s near one of the gates, it’s an Italian ice cream/ gelato parlour I had caramel apple pie ice cream it was absolutely delicious. I hope it’s still there!

Thanks for this video! It was reported in local media that they were going to put up large barriers to effectively seal off and control access to the city centre. (Knife arches and steel barriers). The picture I saw made York look more like an armed camp and for that reason I cancelled my usual December day trip to York. But I don't see any of this on your video so they must of changed their plans. Beautiful city though; one of England's finest. I lived there for 15 years and still consider it home.

@@Emjem1973 Thanks Emma. It was on the YorkMix website. The picture or rendition they showed looked awful and they stated it would be Spurriergate, Lendal, Duncombe Place and then around the market I think.
