Yoruichi Deserved Better

I wanted to talk about how the final arc completely fumbled Yoruichi's big power up moment. Kubo pushed the focus onto Urahara for some reason instead of Yoruichi, taking away the significance of Yoruichi's big moment. Let me know what you all thought of these chapters when they first came out versus how you feel about them now, I'd love to hear from you all in the comments.
also, the lack of CONSENT makes this all a million times worse. I'm incredibly disturbed by the amount of comments disregarding the lack of consent when urahara did this. i'm not changing my mind either lmao, if you dislike my criticism, stay mad bro. i don't consume media mindlessly, and occasionally enjoy critcizing the content i consume. i won't be responding to comments b/c i don't wanna fuel pointless fandom infighting that literally gets no where. y'all need to understand that people have different opinions than yours, and need to accept the fact that Bleach has flaws like any other media that exists.

This video is so cathartic for me as someone who loved Bleach but hates the fanbase. So much of the fanbase cant handle criticism of any sort let alone from women. But man what you talk about really resonates with me. Yoruichi is one of my favorite characters ever. She was this badass sensei who was more laxed but still powerful, wise, & a true force to be reckoned with. That she’s this major character with such power and also so freaking beautiful without her skin color being fetishized was so neat. Oh: AND SHES A GROWN WOMAN. Theres no excuse or statement shes meant to look young, she us unambiguously grown & Im here for it. Its what made Yoruichi so damn unique in addition to her being pretty quirky and also a bit imperfect. She’s so comfortable with her sexuality & beauty and just feels no shame in that.

I agree, it was an unfunny bad joke, which even Yoruichi did not want to do. The fact that she was forced to do it is wrong and messed up. Kubo was being clever, he thought I’d distract them with silliness and sexiness, so they won’t ask about her bankai., it worked for some. Bleach is targeted at tween and teenage boys. This form is something that would appeal to members of that demographic. The people disappointed are ones that expected her to be more bad a$$ than she was in the Soul Society Arc. We think of it as a crappy substitution for Bankai. Her use of it as her choice would soften the blow some if it turned out she was OP and terrifying. Cats are not unpredictable because they are out of control, they are unpredictable because they think differently so the out-of-control lightning cat thing would work better if she became rabid feral and completely uncontrollable.

Kinda hope we get the story as it was meant to be with the new anime. Considering Kubo had the humour massively toned down for TYBW and leaving out Rukia's peach butt from that onsen episode, then I hope we get instead a Yoruichi bankai reveal.

I agree and disagree with what you have said hhh . But saying that kubo has shifted the focus away from her to kisuke isn’t quite true cuz what yoruichi has done in ss arc was according to urahara’s plan first, second she used something KISUKE made himself so ichigo can achieve bankai ( I’m not saying that she didn’t do anything I’m just referring to the fact that the shifting focus thing isn’t quite true )I guess the focus was always there he just didn’t have much screen time as SHE did during that arc . And I guess she didn’t have much screen time afterwards bc Kubo didn’t know how to manage all those characters like bro bleach have so many characters and they are all well designed …..So I guess he didn’t how to include her in the arrancar arc first and in the last arc well he was quite doing well until her fight with askin Well this maybe unpopular op but yes forcing her to do smth she doesn’t want is not good but she should put her pride aside ( as shunsei said pride won’t save us ) and think logically how she can win that fight against askin. I love her character ofc but she isn’t perfect and again I will say that she should have won against askin at least alone using her sword that we didn’t get the chance to see her using unfortunately

Reiatsu in bleach is tied to personality as shown whith kenpachis blood lust, Shunsuis bankai, etc. Was it over sexualized yes but what do you expect when your covered in lightning. As it was stated basic shunko (being the mixture of kido&hakudo) was extended hard to control. When uahara had her use it more than likely it was impossible for her alone to control it and the reason for her only listening to urahara was basically they're entire history together and instinctively knowing is spiritual pressure.

Reiatsu is not tied directly to personality tho. Reiatsu is spiritual pressure, more like an energy or physical force. If anything, reiryoku would be tied to ones personality since it's basically willpower or how strong/in tune one is with themselves spiritually. You're right about shikai and bankai tho as they ARE tied directly to an individual's personality, but NOT reiatsu. Ie: Aisen increased his own reiatsu by things other than the concept of "spiritual enlightenment" or whatever. His personality didn't have anything to do with that. It was his intelligence + multiple hogyoku powerups that led to that happening.

got me sleeping when talking about representation the whole argument that you made is just "but man in control! woman not scary!" she would have lost the fight if she didnt transform and how do you expect her to act in that form? she literally takes on the personality of a cat urahara being the only one she listens to is the product of their longass friendship and trust that goes back hundreds of years reiatsu could be related to personality and mental stuff, considering in the beginning of the series ichigo could sense kenpachi's killing intent through his reiatsu and fear making overall reiatsu output smaller than usual

It was just badly done fanservice that harmed the character. Yourchi deserved her own fight and not to be controlled agianst her will

The thing about this form is that it is meant to be a combination of two big aspects of her character (her lighting and her cat side). The unpredictability and "lack of control" that Yoruichi displays in this form is meant to symbolize the unpredictability of a cat ( as already stated in the manga) and also the unpredictability of lighting. Yoruichi herself is basically a combination of these two things that are very hard to control and predict so I think this form makes sense as it puts these two aspects of her character to light or puts them to an extreme and making her stronger in the process. In my opinion the fact that Yoruichi was able to contend with the stronger characters of the series without even using her Bankai or even her sword gives more praise to her strength than it makes her look "weaker" ( It also adds to the anticipation of when we finally see it). I feel this form was a good move and still keeps the narrative that the couple is still relatively equal in strength.( hope you read this)

Yeah home girl got done super dirty but honestly almost the entire female cast of Bleach got shafted big time in the final arc such as: -Rukia being sidelined the whole arc, got one fight where Byakuya still had to come bail her out, and she had only ONE interaction with Ichigo even though their relationship is what built this manga originally. The fact that she didn't participate in the final battle against Yhwach was absolutely unacceptable(also she should've been the one to get Ichigo back on his feet after Yhwach beat him instead of Renji) -Unohana got this epic reveal only to do absolutely nothing and get killed off to power up Kenny. Yachiru then got retconned into Kenny's zan spirit thus becoming yet another power up for Kenny(Two female characters thrown in the trash for the sake of one overexposed male character, such masterful writing Kubo!) -Hallibel was beaten off screen and spent the rest of the arc imprisoned. We didn't even learn what happened to her til freaking CFYOW! So much for that "Queen of Hueco Mundo" title.... -Nel showed up for a hot minute and did nothing. Ditto Riruka who was just there to fawn over Ichigo as usual. -Nemu finally showed some initiative only to be killed off right after and then brought back as a clone as if nothing happened. -Bambietta is pretty self explanatory to be honest. Such a waste of a potentially cool female villain. The other femritters were just waifu bait and accomplished nothing. -Orihime and that OOC boob window dress and all the jokes about it was just cringe. She too accomplished nothing, people who act like she was usper important in the battle with Yhwach are reaching big time. -Hinamori and Matsumoto became glorified extras despite being two of the more important lieutenants earlier in the story. -The two zero division chicks also did jack diddly before getting killed off screen. Ok Shutara killed that one two tongued sternritter but that guy was fodder so who cares? I always found it hilarious when people try to say Bleach does female characters right. Sure they started off decent but it wasn't anything revolutionary. And over time their portrayals got steadily worse til it finally hit rock bottom in the final arc. PS- Yoruichi's relevance to the story got steadily reduced over time to the point that the freaking fillers gave her more to do most of the time. What a joke.

TYBW was bad enough but when we got to the Yoruichi part I just gave up. It was cheap and dirty and didn't even make any sense. Felt like its own doujinshi. Tite Kubo does good art but he really should have gotten a writer to work with him.

I liked her transformation a lot, looks both supercool and superhot the design being a provocatively lightning-clad feline felt fitting and intentional plus she's a girl so of course I liked seeing her be made a pet also really cool how it plays into the general deviousness of Urahara that's been present althroughout the series (tends to get easily overlooked due to his friendly demanor and 'being on the protagonists side'), so I think you feeling icky is actually a good thing really wanted her to win the fight though

The worst thing is, she used to be the commander of Urahara but since they trained together she views him as an equal. But the final power up which had no build up and came out as a gag makes it look just wrong. The final arc already had too many out of nowhere unexplainable power ups that are really questionable. - Hitsugaya becomes an adult - Byakuya can use all Blades from Senkai to attack - Ichigo's Bankai is his Shikai - Yoruichi becomes a cat girl who wants to be used by Urahara - Quincy use no weapons but have DC or Marvel type Super Powers - Squad 0 doesn't fight like Shinigami (made a video criticizing that) The last arc was a complete trainwreck with a lot of wasted concepts and wasted characters. I only enjoyed the first invasion, Rukia using the true might of her Zanpakuto and Renji's fight. It was not Fullbring bad but it was really annoying since we got so little content per chapter and each time it either gets dragged out or something like a big moment gets glossed over. Especially most new Bankai reveals came and in a flash like Kyoraku's which in concept may be a strong ability but how it was used felt like "Guess I used a few moves and call it a day". The fights against the Quincy were meaningless, most of them were killed by their leader making even some of the stupid plot devices pointless such as a God Slaying Sword. I personally still think Orihime got the worst treatment in Bleach. Build up as someone important only to be shafted and used for fan service.
