I went to live concert of Yorushika last 2weeks in Sapporo. Totally worth it and luckily i was placed in front row which i can clearly see both N-buna and suis the whole live very close 😊

Yeah, I love Yorushika, but I don't even know what the heck they're playing. It's hella good, don't get me wrong, but I can't even say they're Jpop or Jrock without any doubt. They're just Yorushika, that's it, lol

IKR😂 N-Buna really just love a lot of genre. He experiments a lot. They sound like rock and jazz because he loves those the most if I remember correctly. He said he really loves jazz and it influences his music when he guested in a segment that Suis hosted in a radio

I love those discordant key smashes at the end of the pre-chorus to reinforce that "everything feels wrong" message in the lyrics

I love this song because Moonlight/White Moonlight is a slang that refers to someone unreachable and can only be admired/remembered/thought of. Someone important or someone you love but you don't want to tarnish them. Someone unattainable. And in this case, Elma is Amy's moonlight. She's the one he kept remembering and the one he left because his pride/ego couldn't take the blow of finding out he has terminal illness and he might be dying, when Elma admires him so much.

Also, it gives me goosebumps that you had that talk at the near end of the video. That's mostly what this song is about. Wanting to make music creatively but having to bow down to people(i.e. making music catering to them) because your creation isn't appreciated. There's an MV of this "Nautilus" where Amy tried to sing off the streets and no one was paying attention to him. Also in "That's Why I Gave Up On Music" lyrics, he said he didn't care if he made money before, he didn't care about those until his dream was starting to become unreachable.

That's a major theme throughout his songs In False Night(Yoru Magai) he says: "I can't believe I had the gall to sing songs that won't bring me money. I must look stupid." He adds on saying that Life is just like a machine gun: one he would use to blow holes into everyone's hearts. It worked. That's why we have the song "A hole in my heart" from elma. Song Writing and Coffee: he talks about needing to paying the bills but doesn't know how people can live with themselves making songs non-sincerely. May and the Emerald Green by the Window: he talks about how his self worth is obvious, and in a sense, trivial. He tried to get Elma to agree, but she didn't say anything. Silent as he went, he was left walking alone with everyone pointing fingers at him---perhaps to emphasis how ludicrous his music is for being so sincere.

@@boeman6702 I think it also mirrors N-Buna's views in music. He's creating music, creative music, sincere music. And Yorushika is not as well known as other JPop / JRock artists but he doesn't really care about that. He even hides his identity for that. So that people can separate him and his music, and so people can have their own interpretations of the songs. It's also interesting that they have a song "Prostitution" in the Plagiarism album. The description said something about being a music prostitute. Making music to get paid and satisfy other people. He's really a genius

Just saw some missing nuance in the translations and wanted to point them out: 2:17 I wanted you to keep your shape. As if I'd let you become one of my memories 2:25 These lyrics are simply the worst 2:30 If I were to die at 27 then rock and roll had saved my life (the lyrics in the video implies that he had already turned 27. The original lyrics are not in past tense) 4:09 I laughed so hard that my throat dried up 4:29 Past the street vendors in Stockholm, Kiruna, and the stony streets of Gamla Stan. You are the only one I keep in my heart. 5:54 It's still your life, no matter how much I scream about how horrible it is (You're free to do as you please no matter what I say) 6:02 I'm sure they play rock and roll in the afterlife. Hymns and such are never popular simply because god doesn't exist. (Hes trying to say that everyone in this world wants quick, dramatic pleasure from music and would take things like tragedies and play them on the radio for entertainment. It must be so in the afterlife, if its so in this world. that's why hymns and other religious songs are never popular because we are voracious to human suffering and derive pleasure. Hence: God, full in his grace and kindness, must not exist in such a world) 9:27 This is the worst, this is the worst. Leaving you was just me being arrogant. I wanted to agree to everything you said, but that would be the same as lying to you, Elma. 9:36 It's the worst, it's the worst, but I love it so much that I can't help it. (This is the hypocrisy he's referring to) 12:24 Your life is my moonlight. Don't you dare say it's anything simply ordinary. (referencing how he quit his job and ran away with the moonlight guiding his path at the beginning of the song.) 12:52 The worst thing is that these lyrics are only written to sound good

I personally would call this album (their first full album) a mix of J-Rock and J-Pop. I bought it after I had heard their earlier stuff was more rock oriented, I believe someone said that under one of your videos, and I tend to agree after having listened to it a couple of times. I actually enjoy it a lot, it's actually relatively complex musically and it has a lot of guitar on it. I also have an open order for one of their later ones, which might be less for me, but we will see. This album has a bit the same thing for me as Zutomayo does on a lot of their tracks in that it stays interesting even though I am still not a huge fan of the poppy/catchy vocal melodies, but I guess mostly with rock based instruments instead of jazz/funk instruments (and some rock instruments). I have noticed that the line between rock and pop (and actually a lot of genres) in Japan is very thin. Some of it is still very pop-rock like we have in the West, but some of it is more complex, usually underneath a layer of poppy melodies, than the majority of Western bands even though it's considered pop or even Idol music. Hopefully tracks like this can bridge the gap in the West between Pop and Rock as well.

That song is like that cause it doesn't have an MV, not sure if it's my all time fav of Yorushika, at least it ties with Replicant as favorite ones without MV. Nice to see songs from the Amy/Elma storyline still.

The album "That's Why I Gave Up On Music" just has the most beautiful lyricism. The depressive and philosophical lyrics that can cause existential crisis. "Hitchcock" is their only song that is not from this album that has the same vibe. It sounds different tho, so it doesn't fit well with the album
