Thanks for this! I was wondering for a long time why it was sometimes a different character. For some reason I started to think it was basically the same and didn't really matter. How naive I was (;
Ich verstehe kein Deutsch, aber ich bin froh, dass du ein Deutscher warst und dir die Größe dieses Liedes vermittelt wurde. Musik scheint auf der ganzen Welt verbreitet zu sein. Grüße aus Japan
That's true Saying "I want you to die before me" means that they don't want you to experience the pain of losing them Saying "I want you to die after me" means that they want you to stay alive long after them, right?
Embrace your own culture; otherwise, you might end up being what they call a 'weeb.' If you find yourself heading down a path like those degens who are struggling, it's pretty important to seek a balance first, don't worry it's like a phase, you start liking japan, then it starts becoming absorbed within your conscience and now it'll be a part of your own mind, kinda like a pet.
Many Japanese comments said this already, but I want to tell English speakers as well, so I’ll write it here in English. (I’m Japanese btw) In Japanese, it is frequent that one word has more than two meanings, and each meaning is often completely different from each other. This song uses this characteristic very well, and for example in a part of this song, there is a word that can mean “I actually understand what you said” and “I actually understand that you passed away.” I think this is so cool... This feature of this song can be understood only by Japanese speaker, but I wanted to tell it to more people!! Later edit: Thank you so much for many reactions! I am really glad that people all over the world listen to this song and try to understand the deep meanings of its lyrics together. For those who asked questions, ありがとう too! It will take me a while to reply to all, but I will definitely do. (Btw, I am female(笑))
I think because this song is really hard to translate in English, the meaning of this song is lost in translation. Her lover killed himself and she's crying because on the last day of her life he won't be with her. The repeated use of "Say it!" each time conveys a different meaning Eg. "At least give me a hint before you kill yourself" (言って -> Say it!) "How to explain to you how beautiful it is be alive before you die?" (逝って -> You're dead) "How to sing about love on the last day of my life without you?" ( いって -> a sound you make when you're hurt) That's why we see her falling, and that's why she's jumping our field of view after running down the stairs repeatedly, with her SO, a part of big part of her self was killed. Her running down the stairs, her monotone voice, her being rough sketch while everything around is colorful farther indicates her descent to depression. So yeah, it's dark.

no no no... In japanese, there's no please in of begging, it's more like "should" and not begging, for example "痛いno no no... In japanese, there's no please in of begging, it's more like "should" and not begging, for example "痛い時にちゃんと言って" please tell us when you're hurt, it's more like recommending thing for you to do so it's hardly begging. it's more like teaching you to do something "please don't run in the hallway" it's simple as that. And that's the point of the whole video.
