I grew up watching Ted Roland’s on KTVU News. Crazy how Cary confessed to him before the cops. This whole story and family was so insane with the kidnapping of his younger brother and then Cary’s evil behavior. This was a huge story for me growing up. Very sad ending with Steven dying in the motorcycle accident after coming home from being help captive.

I remember this story heard from the point of view of the father/husband of the first 2 women murdered. This poor man was suspected of their murder. Imagine sending your wife and daughter off for a hiking trip (that you cannot partake of because your work schedule will not allow it) and never seeing them again.....made me sob. It's actually a very common occurence that serial murderers are under the influence when committing their crimes. It's not that the drugs MAKE them do it, they just make it easier for *them* to do it. It's another piece of the puzzle as to what led to what happened, basically.

Comprehension obviously isn't in your skillset. The professionals DID NOT blame weed. Their point is that weed can be considered a depressant, stimulant, or hallucinogen. Pair that with psychopathic thoughts and depressions and you have an individual likely to become unhinged. That's the point they were making. You weed smokers are the new snowflakes but relax!

@@kilojoule11 but weed didn’t throw him over the edge. I get what you’re saying, and what the guy talking about the weed is saying, but I still don’t buy it. Everybody in the comments is mad because she linked weed to this case. But what people need to understand is weed isn’t for everybody. I, for instance, can’t handle my weed for shit. I get super paranoid when I smoke no matter who I’m with, whether the environment is chill or not, and even if I’m having a good day. My paranoia isn’t the typical “oh no I’m going to get caught” it’s like every single demon and trauma that I have pushed down gets released or amplified and I quite literally feel like I’m going crazy. Therefore, I simply don’t smoke or do edibles or anything. I do partake in CBD which is amazing by the way because I don’t get a psych high but I still end up feeling relaxed. Anyways, In conclusion, I don’t think she’s fully trying to demonize weed but rather, bring to light that maybe this man with tons of issues shouldn’t have been partaking in ANY drugs because it quite literally probably wasn’t meant for him

I used to have a boyfriend that smoked so much weed he couldn't pay his bills. This had been a problem for him for years. He'd smoke about 4 or 5 blunts a day and it cost about $80 more or less a day smoking a gram of the good kind per blunt. This was too expensive for his income (as I assume it would be for most of us). He wouldn't pay our rent on time or utilities, he wouldn't pay his child support, or even go to the doctor etc in lieu of buying his daily dose of weed. Whenever he didn't have any he would be very mean and impatient to me and say he had cold sweats and couldn't sleep good said he could hold still and felt restless. These are common withdrawal symptoms. He WAS 100% heavily addicted to marijuana. I thought at that time in my life that it was impossible to become addicted to marijuana due to the fact that it is so safe. But so is food, but that doesnt stop My 600 Pound Life from having a endless amount of characters dying from eating too much. He wasn't a serial killer tho(!) but he definitely used weed as a crutch for some underlying issues he had. I agree with the man that mentioned it. I'm for legalization and all that. I'm just saying I know that weed is not exempt from being a substance people abuse.

Childhood trauma is a frequent antecedent of violent behavior. It isn't an excuse, it's just acknowledging a reality that, without that trauma, Cary may very well never have committed these crimes. They tried saying “lets go somewhere else” and he said “no trips done im taking you home”. It costs you guys even more to have them on death row due to rightful appeals. Just stop mandating the killing of prisoners altogether. It's not a power a civilized government should have, but no surprise there given the lack of civility the US government seems to show to non prisoners I suppose.. The risk of 1 innocent life is not worth even 1000 families feeling the "relief" of having revenge. Rotting in jail is punishment enough. Half the freaks in there are there for crimes against women and children... and where they are now, those things they liked the most aren't around them. Let them live in filth and violence for the rest of their lives, often it's a punishment worse than death for those who have to think about how they landed themselves there. Because at least despite being horrible people a lot of them regret what they did every day, even if not just the selfish part of it. At least when you're still alive you can continue fighting for your defense and possibly freedom if you know you didn't do something though, but we ultimately take that chance away from people when we condemn them to death. And we all know innocent people have indeed been put to death in the US. Can you guys honestly say those innocent lives were worth killing the amount of truly guilty over just keeping them in prison? I don't think so personally. The feeling of helplessness marching to your death as an innocent man would be like nothing you could imagine. No innocent human should have to go through that feeling. But I'd like to hear other opinions.

I know someone who reported Carry Stainer who happened to be at a gas station in Modesto CA There were two others with him and one female in the back seat crying and and because he suspected trouble called the Police and sometime later they found a wallet near the intersection at a gas station near the person I know was at a corner gas station. Now sure why they never linked the two others?. I don't believe he acted alone.

Very interesting, I wonder who those two other people were. I lived near the corner of Carver & Rumble at the time. Someone said the wallet was found in an intersection near there. When I seen who they were trying to accuse of those missing women and where the wallet ended up, I knew there were some shenanigans going on. Somebody was definitely going to get set up if the fourth victim wasn't found.

This isn’t a show about HIM. You think I’ll remember his name? I’m still watching and I’ve already forgotten it. It’s about understanding the human brain, it’s about what creates monstrous behavior, it’s about justice, it’s about not forgetting the victim’s names, and most importantly it’s about learning what we can from these tragedies and using that to help prevent it from happening again or protecting ourselves/our loved ones from the people who do such things.

@22:32 it's tragic to hear that she tried to "prevent him from entering the room!" 🤦 She "sensed something wasn't right!" This is why we have to "listen to our gut" because in the end we rather be safe than sorry! This very thing happened to me in 2001! I was four months pregnant with my son at the time! I had just gotten out of the "shower" so I was still wet with a towel wrapped around my body! Then that's when I got a knock at the door... 🚪 without opening the door I asked who it was... the man on the other side of the door told me his name was: "Anderson!" He was my "boyfriend's friend" but he almost always made me feel uncomfortable around him... so because I had just got out the shower and my boyfriend wasn't home I decided to not open the door! So instead he moved on down the hall to my neighbor's door!!! Later on that night I found out she was raped and murdered! I won't give any "brutal details" because she was definitely tortured!!! Sad to say I didn't hear a word not a peep! And that haunts me to this very day! I thank God he got life in prison but he went on to killed a few other women!!! 😲😰 "My gut told me to not open the door" and that (quick decision) saved my life! 🙌😇👼🙏

These stories of what “made” these killers become killers never cease to disappoint … His brother got some deserved love and attention when he finally escaped a pedophile… He wasn’t his parent (s)’ favorite (Boo Hoo 😩)… “They moved away and he was on his own”-As an adult man!… I ask how many of us were not our parents’ favorites ?- How many of us didn’t forever live with or next door to our parents ?- How many of us had to be alone on our own as adults ? Many or most of us I’d say to all of those - And how many of us “had to” go murder people ??: Not friggin many! …Oh I almost forgot : Did we have a sibling who was abducted and abused but returned to our family? - Most not , right ? - But if we did would that have made us want our own TV movie for killing innocent strangers ?? …In a word : “No!” 🤨✌️

I personally believe he was a born psychopath. A child that small shouldn't be thinking those things or perhaps he suffered some kind of abuse, saw his parents or some adults having violent intercourse but who knows. Now if that in fact happened and he experienced something traumatic he was a victim of those around him but that still doesn't excuse or justify his actions. Being born a psychopath also doesn't make him a victim. He's guilty for everything and should be behind bars for the rest of his days.

The sad childhood sob story from these types is ridiculous and outrageous! It's a more than likely a dishonest scripted acting game and even if their canned story were somehow slightly true, this is still irrelevant and grants no excuse or justification for the heinous actions of these monsters. Lots of people have bad childhood experiences and struggle as adults for decades. Even though they suffer and deal with psychological wounds, you won't find these people running around killing random people!

Every time I see one of these shows only half of the story is about the crime while the other is filled with all the misfortune the perpetrator experienced as a youth making the unspoken but very clear claim that the one was the cause or reason or 'excuse' for the other. I just labored through the full documentary “Captured Audience: A Real American Horror Story,” which clearly displays Cary’s dilemma: nature and nurturing shaped this man’s behavior; the latter was his expressed outward crimes his young self tried to suppress like his “nurturing” parents. Think about it, their son was abducted and sexually assaulted for YEARS; the parents shared on Good Morning America how counseling isn’t for him or them. This type of parenting is Nurturing Bad Behavior 101: the foundation for a lifetime of psychological disorders…big time!
