What's the catch? If this is just arr again, why wouldn't players just play the better version? If it's brand new story and content, why isn't this stuff being added to the *actual* game? Because they got paid by another company to use the world? I don't think thats a good idea. If that's the case, now we have two identical worlds using "our" wol but now those of us who don't want to try playing this game on phone will be missing out on story and events that we technically should be experiencing in the main game if this new stuff is canon to ff14 lore. Especially if they start doing big story events to help flesh out early arr more... I'm not liking where this is going.

And then retroactively add story to an existing story based game to set it apart from the main title. That is 100% a problem that effects existing players.

Nobody actually said this will have "new story content". This is 100% will have the same story as what we have right now. Also, mobile market is bigger than ever, not many people want to play on pc/console too you know. Have you seen genshin and other hoyoverse games? They're heavy story focus game but have millions of players. And millions of them also played on the phone.

If they want their existing player base to play mobile, they are going to be incentivised to use exclusive content to draw people in. If that content happens to be story driven, it is going to be an issue. If all they are going for is to put ff14 *as is* on mobile. No problem. But considering what mobile typically involves, it's not unreasonable to have concerns.

It's not a new story. Only thing visible in the trailer is apparently some reworked va (post-arr Minfilia voice, more according to HW va). It's staying alongside the story that you know. wth even came with the idea they're doing a different story and different events? You're not liking where this is going, because it's all going in your head canon.

Combat will be like 11 or 1.0. Sort of a pseudo turn based and no precision movement. My guess is you'll just click on the general area of the arena to move out of landslides and the like. You'll basically have 2 or 3 spots you can stand and just cycle between them. Sort of like older turn based RPGs where you could move characters between the front and back of the party.

There's one reason why im skeptical of this: Tencent. They're effectively one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse when it comes to greed in gaming. Besides, I don't fully trust the no gacha thing. I mean shit, their recent game Deatiny Rising is DOA probably (contrary to what Destiny 2 content creators say because they're about as trustworthy as a politician). I hope I'm wrong but Tencent does not inspire confidence with this. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it looks in terms of gameplay

Honestly, I think it will and will not work out. People refuse to upgrade phones to a decent models. You still have people on Galaxy 8s because it's 100x better than the S24 Ultra. Then theres people that use iPhone. But if they can make every a 1 button macro like it's PVP mode which is essentially what you do in OVE anyways. But this mobile version will highlight some of FFXIVs monetization. Ya know that thing people try to deny is baked into FFXIV.

Little late to the party but as someone who's definitely going to give it a try, for people that might not remember by adapting this they can ditch the crumby spaghetti code that FFXIV is currently running on. Already implies everyone is getting access to player housing instead of the current clown fiesta. And if they add a wow style cosmetic collection system could quickly be superior in some regards.

I've seen this with many other games, i've seen this same old boring argument many times too, you'll just pretend that people don't have to care when they start adding items you can only get from playing the mobile version rather than something that could have been an event or something else instead. in ff14 yeah people don't care about items or glam. love this argument of people shouldn't care if they get less when companies try to squeeze more money out of the same assets. There is a reason most games don't have subs anymore because its more profitable to have whales and people who think like this. Just remember what you said in 3-5 years from now. You should probably look at the gaming landscape in more detail and try to understand why Square made this decision to recycle ff14 assets to begin with, money. If they can squeeze more money out of people for less work, they will. My original comment is this game is a taste of what is probably to come. less content, more paid content. patch cycle has already slowed down in 2021 the amount of stuff added to the cash shop has gone up. So it's already been happening but this is one more step to condition people into it but it's okay because we can pretend it doesn't effect us. Dawntrail MSQ.

You guys forget that this isnt for you. At all. It's not *for* western audiences. It's for the Far East, south and pacific asia, where the majority of their gamers operate on mobile devices. Don't forget the titles Tencent owns. When you're offered a licensing agreement from a company that basically prints money with gacha games, without any real effort from your own staff besides compliance assurance, you're going to take it.

It's really just as simple as: Do you already play FF14? If so, just forget the mobile version exists. Do you live in a country with mainly phones?
