Yoshida usually put a paper on the BH side, to help with fingers to have some friction.

he is using c-pen but style is totally j-pen standard!!!he is one of my best penholder heroes!!!especially for amateur penhold player... he is best standard i think.....he is really all-round style... not only forehand topspin....backhand skill is also awesome !!! so i love his style~

Yoshida Kaii is a Japanese player of Chinese origin, he born in China and got training in China until the age of 17. He uses c-pen grip. Although he only uses one side of his racket, it doesn't mean his style is j-pen style.

no rpb means j-pen style...i know grip is c-pen...but only one side meansj-pen style... it depends on what u consider

@@junstabletennisclub7226 so someone playing RPB with j-pen blade means c-pen style? We have RPB vs TPB to describe those style difference, and j-pen vs c-pen to differentiate the blades. Why add unnecessary confusions? Before the 90s, Chinese players played exclusively TPB for decades. Were they playing j-pen?

J-pen is a rectangular racket as opposed to Chinese round, like the one used by Liu Guoliang. Ryu Seung Min of South Korea was one of the greatest practitioners of a J-pen blade. Yoshida Kaii stays closer to the table and has pretty quick hands. Ryu played further back and got a lot with his forehand which was like Xu Xin's.

No-one moved as good as Ryu seung min though! But Kaii Yoshida had great footwork in his time, and maybe the best traditional penhold backhand loop of all time far away from the table!

Penhold style has inherent disadvantages in backhand,compared to shakehand. Yoshida Kaii somehow compensates the disadvantages by control, footwork and power. He is already awesome, although still far away from world top-class players.
@flagella1337
@flagella1337 5 жыл бұрын
You can only compensate so much, and still lags far behind top players. It's somewhat fun to watch due to its rarity, but one rubber only players are capped to begin with and will retire early too.

Imagine how much work he has to put in, immigrated to Japan, and speak fluent Japanese, became a pro and played all over the world, and stayed true to J-Pen style play and TPB.

(At 6:38), Yoshida used 3 FH Strawberry against Ma Long, very effective because ML can't outright attack on that.

I love this shot and find it relatively easy to do. you can pick whether you want to come more under the ball giving chopping / backspin type motion. or come around the side of the ball more which has this pure sidespin or side/top motion that can be tricky for players to handle. It's a great weapon I think a lot of people raised on TPB will find easy to do since it's very similar.

Japanese but a cpen player, that is very interesting. He is a classic or traditional cpen player, no wonder his style is fast attack, and he uses all kind of shots. I like him a lot, because his style is almost the same as mine. I've just ordered a Butterfly blade with his name to honour him, just like I do to honour Ma Lin and JO Waldner 😅
